Someone made the comment that the Bible was written by men, not by God. Only half of that is true. The Bible was written by approximately 40 men over a period of many years. Prophesies in the Old Testament which were prophesied well before they came true. Isaiah's prophesies about Christ were made a good 400 years before Christ was born, and they all came to fruition. It can't all be coincidence or a hoax because of the time periods in which the books were written.

Gen 1 has a creation story, gen 2-3 has a different creation story. The original Hebrew uses the word 'gods' plural when it says the the gods created the heavens and the earth. If you read the bible you will find storys where the loving god tells Moses to kill all the inhabitants of Caanan and make the children slaves. Leviticus tells you you can make those from neighbouring countries your slaves. The tale of Lot is a tale of incest, for which he's not punished but rewarded. Etc.

Genesis 2 does describe a different Creation story. This is not literal history. Making that a mandatory belief you have to accept to belive in Christianity is very misguided.

No self-respecting, intelligent evolutionist would say that dust turns into single celled organisms. Second, you can a theist and still believe in evolution, in fact, Catholics, including the pope, believe in evolution. Third, you have no idea what evolution is and how much evidence there is supporting it; literally thousands of fossils. What do you have? A book written by men, not by a god, that describes talking animals, evil fruit, split seas; topics from fairy tales.
Look at this at least, evolution actually does meet the criteria of being called a theory. Creationism can't even be a hypothesis, as it's not testable. Creationism counts as an idea rather than any explanation of observations sadly.
All those I have encounted have persecution complexes (actively seek out places where they will be challenged or insulted), love to indimidate others when the preceive a weakness in them (be it physical, mental, or emotional), and all around love to run thier mouths in front of cameras even when they know nothing about the topic they're supposed to be on.

Afraid not. Fossils are almost never subjected to Carbon dating because either they're way too old or because of contamination with current environmental carbon during their excavation. Carbon dating cannot be used to date things more than 60,000 years old. Some fossils are billions of years old.
*Radiometric dating* (not carbon for most fossils, since - being minerals - they don't contain any carbon) gives an absolute date for strata; stratography and zone fossils are used in the field.
The media are quite scientifically ignorant, and not well known for their accuracy. This is why only proximal paleontologists / anthropologists' opinions should be regarded as anything "scientific." Everybody has big opinions on such things.
You do realize the media is partly to blame for this widespread public ignorance? National Geo is not a scientific publication, they have made many errors in the past. No scientist regards it as an accurate assessment tool.
I was expressing my disdain- it was my honest opinion having watched it happening over the years. The public has no idea the scope & detail of science. They think it's all "just a theory." They don't realize how much work has gone into it-- how a single individual might spend an entire career looking at a handful of enzymatic reactions in one species. The public, for lack of education, lack of patience for subtlety, discards entire fields of science at a whim.

The Bible does describe the earth round, Job 26/Isaiah40/Proverbs 8:27/Luke 17:31.There are several scientific principles that weren't discovered by scientists until hundreds of years after the Bible had been written. Several scientist/astronomers and others have used the Bible to find extraordinary discoveries.

Someone made the comment that the Bible was written by men, not by God. Only half of that is true. The Bible was written by approximately 40 men over a period of many years. Prophesies in the Old Testament which were prophesied well before they came true. Isaiah's prophesies about Christ were made a good 400 years before Christ was born, and they all came to fruition. It can't all be coincidence or a hoax because of the time periods in which the books were written.

Gen 1 has a creation story, gen 2-3 has a different creation story. The original Hebrew uses the word 'gods' plural when it says the the gods created the heavens and the earth. If you read the bible you will find storys where the loving god tells Moses to kill all the inhabitants of Caanan and make the children slaves. Leviticus tells you you can make those from neighbouring countries your slaves. The tale of Lot is a tale of incest, for which he's not punished but rewarded. Etc.

Please, if you are Christian, read some science or history. I would recommend Ronald Number's The Creationists or Francis Collins' The Language Of God. Trying to defend an ultra literal interpretation of Genesis is not only impossible but is a major stumbling block to faith in Jesus Christ.

The Hebrew word in Genesis for day is Yom. It is not used through the rest of the OT as a literal 24 hour day everytime. It can mean "In the day of" like saying "back in my grandfather's day." Genesis 2 does describe a different Creation story. This is not literal history. Making that a mandatory belief you have to accept to belive in Christianity is very misguided.

Afraid not. Fossils are almost never subjected to Carbon dating because either they're way too old or because of contamination with current environmental carbon during their excavation. Carbon dating cannot be used to date things more than 60,000 years old. Some fossils are billions of years old.

The media are quite scientifically ignorant, and not well known for their accuracy. This is why only proximal paleontologists / anthropologists' opinions should be regarded as anything "scientific." Everybody has big opinions on such things.
You do realize the media is partly to blame for this widespread public ignorance? National Geo is not a scientific publication, they have made many errors in the past. No scientist regards it as an accurate assessment tool.

I was expressing my disdain- it was my honest opinion having watched it happening over the years. The public has no idea the scope & detail of science. They think it's all "just a theory." They don't realize how much work has gone into it-- how a single individual might spend an entire career looking at a handful of enzymatic reactions in one species.
