Hi Nina, I used to play flute in a band and take lessons...then I went to university and flute unfortunately took the back burner. Now I'm trying to get back into it but am too poor for lessons (student budget :S). These videos are really helpful. Thank you!
That is the coolest flute ever I want a new but my parents can't afford it I'm still using my first flute which is a yamaha it's not a bad brand it's better than Trevor James that's for sure but your flute is awsome is that Complete gold or something else.
I had to pull out my flute, but this is something I've been doing unconsciously for years. Still, I'll be passing along this video to the other flutes in my section, as these reminders are awesome for those of us who have been playing for a while!
This is a good illustration of this! Thanks! I always tell my student to "blow down" to keep them from "smiling" but this might be more effective. I think this works great once you find your sweet spot.
this "bunny rabbit muscle" technique is the very technique i am struggling with. :( even though my notes aren't airy, it tends to get airy when i go down an octave. :(
Failing to do this very thing is my main problem in keeping a fully, focused sound. Hopefully having the name and image you have given here will help me remember this little point of embouchure.
nina, to be frank, I LOVE YOU FOR THIS!!!
this has improved by playing DRAMATICALLY!!! My tone is SO much better!!!

I learned this in a lesson with Kate Lukas, and went home and taught it to my teacher at the time XD It is especially great on your low notes!
