I remember I had a exam the Very Next day, And it was the chose of, Get some last Min revision in, And go to sleep early, Or stay up and watch Metallica. I watched metallica.
And, Passed the test! See... Metallica Helps You learn (;
I'm nearly 40 and have seen them on every tour since Puppets in 86, metal bands have to communicate to one another to keep the tempo running smoothly and this is one of those examples, don't read too much into it, they're total pros and you CANNOT fault them, I think they sound a bit wimpy on some of their older tunes these days but I've got the right, I've paid for the 13 gigs+Every CD+Every Vinyl+Fan Club Memberships+Tour Merchandise+lost Relationships (Cause they like Celine Dion) blah blah
who gives a shit if he told him to slow it down big wow there one of the best no fuck off they are the best metal band ever so come on stop whining over 1 little shity thing saying slow down.
Yeah maybe so, but is it really an issue? And who really cares? If Lars was going a bit faster than usual so what. If the mighty Het has to say notch it down a bit now and again then so be it....they still rock better than most...Rock and fookin roll man \m/
Yes, I do some lip-reading, and anyone can clearly make out that Hetfield does say something like this: "Slow down". Great performance, marred by poor guitar and drum sound.
at 6:04. James tells Lars to "Slow down" but to be fair.. To be a great vocalist and a great guitarist at the same time is a huge challenge for anyone.. No matter how talented and experienced..
I love Metallica and their performance at Reading 2008 was flawless in my opinion, but there are several parts in the latter half of this song that are clearly 'One' recycled.
Not such a bad thing that is it? To me it doesn't really sound like "One" but it's similar to it in it's structure, slow melodic build up, faster mid section, then even faster towards the end. I think it's a classic modern Metallica track.
Yeah I knew what you meant mate, there are parts that sound like One, but most bands have bits in their songs that sound like stuff they've done before. I suppose you could call it recycling really like you say. Anyway, i'd rather hear this version of Metallica than that of the last album, ie - with the solos firmly back in place, and a proper drum kit rather than grandma's biscuit tins lol...BUT, I do like St Anger, just not as much as the really classic stuff.
I completely agree with you mate, people make out Death Magnetic to be far worse than it actually is. DM is a great album, and people fail to see that strangely.
Well aren't you the lucky bar steward, I tried to get tickets the morning they went on sale for the UK tour, I was there just after 9am online, & every ticket site I know was completely jammed up, & the one I did get through to wanted me to fookin register which I couldn't be bothered with, & it would've only wasted valuable time anyway. So, here I am still wanting to see the mighty 'Tallica boys again as I aint seen 'em for 9 years, & you have two fookin tickets, the world is totally unfair :(
I agree with iron lord. I hate all this '' they sold old '' bullshit. A good fucking song is a good fucking song, regardless of whether it sounds like the album before. I do admit though, his voice, prolly due to age, is a bit squeaky on the high notes!
death magnetic is good, but does any1 think that they sort of sound like another band trying to sound like metallica?dont get me wrong i do like it,but to me,it sounds as if after saint anger, they were trying to recreate there old style so they started listening to there old records and are just trying to copy them almost.still an improvement from the dissapointing st. anger
To me it just sounds like a band kicking some serious arse, & I never stopped loving 'em anyway. I think Load/Re-load are great albums & have some classic songs on there. St Anger also has some great songs on it, even if they were without solos etc, but they are deffo back on classic form now. Just wish I could've got them damn gig tickets last week, GRRRRRRRRR. Would be easier taming a lion & having you let it stroke it so to speak, everyone wants a piece of the mighty 'Tallica at the moment.
It is "choppy" because it's choppy, simple as that :-D This is exactly as it was when I recorded it through my USB TV dongle thingamyjig...nothing's perfect, I did my best at the time, could be interference from something when I was recording. In this technological wireless age, there's allsorts of frequencies and waves flying all around us and through us etc, so could be due to something like that.
I like the fire that has returned in James' eyes. Gives me a good feeling even more about Death Magnetic. There dedicated again to ''Metallica'' instead of themselves.
hey guys ddn't really listen to metallica much whilst growing up, in fact the jools holland performnces was the first time iv'e ever listened to a whole song. neway they are wkd and im trying to find a song they performed on jules holland show just last week is had the lyrics 'suicide im already dead' at the start of the song i think? iv'e searched but can't find it. anybody know what its called? thanks.
James had a bad day on vocals here, sounds very hoarse. But like someone else said, this was like the 4th night in a row, and he is getting on a bit. I think he can be let off on these types of occasions.
Brilliant performance.Best band on this show by far. James did sound a little hoarse in parts but they did the London gig the night before, previous night the BBC session, and prior to that the Berlin gig and in Copenhagen as well ...i bet his throat was a bit sore after all that
Well, considering they are "average" as you say, they are doing pretty damn well in the world for themselves. Still at number TWO in the album charts here in the UK, but were number ONE, on the 14th September, which gave them only two days to sell enough to be number two.....Yes doing really well for an "average" band.
The whole point is they are NOT an average band, but a good one that has recently started making average shit. Metallica would get a number one album if they pissed on a fretboard. It doesnt matter how good the album is because they are so popular and well known.
Well, I certainly wouldn't buy an album of Metallica "pissin' on a fretboard". Metallica never stopped making fantastic music for me, they've always been the band with more balls than most to try new things and not be afraid to push out the "boundaries" as the late great Tommy Vance once said, he knew the score too.
Metallica didn't actually do a tribute to Rick Wright, but they appeared on Jools Holland's "Later" show, which is a live music show with various musical bands/artists. The beginning of my video here was just some footage of Pink Floyd that they showed as a tribute to Rick. BUT, David Gilmour (Floyd guitarist) was actually on the show playing one of Rick's songs last night, which i've also uploaded. Thanks for your comment ;)
Well in fact James really didn`t hit all the high notes for example on "this I swear" right on the spot. But who cares...this is not a classical performance. THIS IS METALLICA ! And they rock whatever pitch James might sing
They played a massive concert the night before thats why James' vocals are a bit off. He doesn't lubricate his throat with beer anymore lol. Still an awesome performance. Can't wait til they come down under!
Sorry but whoever said it is right, the guitars are the slightest bit out of tune on the g string. Obviously not the bands fault though, a guitar techs i assume.
Richard Wright will always be remembered for his music.
Very tight performance as usual by Metallica! The new song sounds good but the bridge reminded me of some of their older songs. How long is this song? The video seems to be edited perhaps because of the time restrictions on You Tube.
oh God James sounds horrible here! His voice was horse. I saw a video of a show 2 days before this or so and he sounded much better. The rest of it sounds good.
His voice was not a horse at all ;) It's a punishing job being the singer in the biggest metal band on earth, sometimes you're gonna sound a bit off now and again. Some of the other recent live stuff they've done has been truly outstanding. Check out the stuff from last Sunday's gig at the BBC radio theatre in London, one word AMAZING!
actually the reason he cant reach those high notes is when they were recording the black album, bob rock - the producer at the time - pushed james voice into overload eventhough he had a sore throat - also hetfield claimed that he needed to rest his throat. that damaged his vocal chords and his voice, unfortunately, hasnt been the same since. just thought you'd like to know and to set the facts straight.
I didn't say anything about him not being able to reach the high notes. I think Hetfield has always sounded great on the Black album and beyond. I was aware he had a sore throat during the making of the Black album but i'm not sure that that did any long term damage. His voice was a bit messed up here from constant gigs night after night, there's no actual damage been done though.
Ok then, well if it's not hard then you go and join Metallica and we'll see ;) Rob even admitted in an interview I watched last night that it was hard stuff to play, so let's see you go and play it without grimacing then. And re: being defensive, I will be defensive against stupid comments yes, I have a right to if I so choose.
the year that they played a 'surprise' set at download festival (they weren't on the bill)the sounds techs spent an hour soundchecking just the drums.
If you've ever seen them live you'll know how amazing their sound is.
Cheers for your comment, i've been trying to tell these idiots saying they're "out of tune" that they must be tone deaf, but there's just no reasoning with some people. Cheers! \m/
This show was on early in the week but only for half an hour, during that one they showed Metallica performing TDTNC. In Friday night's 1 hour version of the show, Metallica performed Cyanide and Enter Sandman. I do have The Sandman one too, I might upload it ??? hmmm.
Rob is grimacing because the bass playing in Metallica is a tough job, it's got NOTHING to do with tuning. I am sick of some of these stupid comments.
I remember I had a exam the Very Next day, And it was the chose of, Get some last Min revision in, And go to sleep early, Or stay up and watch Metallica. I watched metallica.

If I'm mistaken, and I pray I am, it looks like James tells Lars to "Slow it down" at 6:04.
Oh how far the mighty Metallica have fallen if he did.

Try to imagine a band who plays a song and a drummer how bashes his toms too fast. Just doesn't sound good.
So there's no reason to think Metallica have fallen, if he actually did.
Speed ain't always that what makes metal.

oh God James sounds horrible here!

To be honest, what he's playing isnt exactly hard when he grimaces.I think you're beingh a bit defensive in all honesty
DrPoca 3 years ago
Ok then, well if it's not hard then you go and join Metallica and we'll see ;) Rob even admitted in an interview I watched last night that it was hard stuff to play, so let's see you go and play it without grimacing then. And re: being defensive, I will be defensive against stupid comments yes, I have a right to if I so choose.

damn, i've seen so many comments by the poster.... great song!!!

Yes I like to respond ;) Thanks for the comment!
Ironlord2015 3 years ago
Just a thought, but it may sound out of tune because James' has a heavy pick hand, not to mention the most punishing right hand in any band. Oh yeah.

metallica out of tune? Ha. not likely.
the year that they played a 'surprise' set at download festival (they weren't on the bill)the sounds techs spent an hour soundchecking just the drums.
If you've ever seen them live you'll know how amazing their sound is.

Cheers for your comment, i've been trying to tell these idiots saying they're "out of tune" that they must be tone deaf, but there's just no reasoning with some people. Cheers! \m/

Love it. Love the new album. Absolutely brilliant performance. Hope they come to Italy!

There was an hour long version of this show last night - did Metallica play a second song?
fuf 3 years ago
This show was on early in the week but only for half an hour, during that one they showed Metallica performing TDTNC. In Friday night's 1 hour version of the show, Metallica performed Cyanide and Enter Sandman. I do have The Sandman one too, I might upload it ??? hmmm.

I love how this video jumps about, or is that how it was edited together?
toonuraccoon 3 years ago
No there was no editing, not on my part anyway. There was a few glitches when I was recording it which made it jump, that was out of my hands though.
Ironlord2015 3 years ago
1:52... Ouch.
Rob's face shows it all. Not a great performance. Hetfield's vocals sound really strained in the chorus and the verse sounds a bit out of tune.
DrPoca 3 years ago
Rob is grimacing because the bass playing in Metallica is a tough job, it's got NOTHING to do with tuning. I am sick of some of these stupid comments.
Ironlord2015 3 years ago
that outro is sick
