This is so dumb. It's like saying "who is the best piano player, Beethoven or Elton John".
Ringo Starr was a beat/pop drummer. He got into the Beatles as he was just about the best pop drummer available in the country at the time. He was much more accomplished, than any of the other Beatles, musically (when he joined).
He only gets a hard time, as pop drumming is now unfashionable, as the genre has changed a lot since.
John Lennon was once asked in an interview 'Is Ringo the best drummer in the world?' John Lennon replied 'Ringo isn't even the best drummer in The Beatles' ...
KEITH FUCKING MOON FOREVER!!! Ringo is just a cool guy. the Drummer of the most important band ever?...yes, he is, but... KEITH FUCKING MOON FOREVER!!!!
Moon was the more aggressive drummer, people just made that a basis why they say Keith was a lot better but real drummers know how good Ringo is after he drummed on so many more styles of music than Keith ever did in his lifetime and he is so much easier to work with on the studio recording.
It's hardly a comparison, sure Ringo's good but Keith was fucking revolutionary, he blows Ringo off his feet. And I'm saying this as the world's biggest Who and Beatles fan (they're my two favorites)
listen morons do not underestimate ringo, perfect for the beatles see ringo at the colloceum washington 64' rooftop 69' amazing performance!! ringo on rubber sole etc moon,bonham would of been a bad fit!! long live ringo starr!!!
Moon End of chat. Dave Grohl, Jon Bonham, Lars Ulrich, even PHIL COLLINS all play drums far better than Ringo Starr! Only even having this conversation because he was a Beatle. YAWN!
That's like comparing apples and oranges- it's two different types of drumming, one is a minimalist style and one is a crazy, sloppy (purposefully sloppy, mind you) fast style. Neither could play the other.
Thought this was stupid at first, until I saw where you were going with it. Very nice job. When the photo of Roger came up with his scream I just about died laughing!
Yeah but Charlie could never get that retarded smirk off his face now could he? Haha in my opinion Keith Nd ringo were good but the best of all time has to go to the guy from led zeppelin John bonham aka bonzo the beast!
To put it simply,.Ringo Starr's name alone makes him the most famous rock drummer of all time. Only the brain dead would not know he was a Beatle. Even Pete Best was a Beatle, and because of that only, his name is better remembered than some of the best rock drummers to date. Even the band itself wasn't the greatest ever. But who has ever topped the output and musical progressivness of the Beatles material? Keith has been dead 33 years, Ringo has been sober for 24 and still working. Ringo Wins!
@babyshambler Hey Numb Nuts,.. did you notice the subject was Ringo and Moon? Not one mention of Lennon Vs Daltrey. Plus Daltrey never wrote a known Who song in his life. Not that Rodger wasn't good,.. But Townsend wrote all the Who music. Lennons catalog of music and vocals puts Daultey in the closet. So you point is what???
Hello! It's my video, I'll comment how I see fit, however...err....unfit! Daltrey wrote some Who gems, including Early morning cold taxi, Here for more and let's not forget a co-credit on Anyway anyhow anywhere. I've lost both of our points, Dear Boy. Happy new year!
@babyshambler How could you lose the point I made when it's printed right in front of you on your screen? LOL! Anyway, Happy New year to you also. But go around and ask how many people know of a Rodger Daltrey song. See how many come up with "Early Morning Taxi". Then ask the same about Lennon. I think he wrote about two, or maybe three songs for the Beatles. :D ( Watch, Some Dummy will actually correct me on that. LOL!)
They said John Lennon was at the level of Mozart musically. I did not hear the scientists and experts ever say that about Daltrey, good vocals though.
The truly over rated drummers are usually the drummers that show off and successfully convince others (including musicians) that they are fantastic.
Drummers often get away with being immature prima donna players (that don't deserve to be called "musicians") who think that the wntire world of music pivets on their whims.
Unless you are an experienced bassist (electric bass or upright bass), you are probably not qualified to truly rate a drummer.
@MrPJ1954 I think you omitted the obvious question due to your narcistic additude. So tell us,... who is qualified as a drummer in order to be talented enough to play with someone as great a bassest as you?
Ringo is an amazing drummer. Have you ever listened to She said she said or Paperback writer? This is not for beginners. He wasn't always pulling out all the stops because he was in the type of band where he didn't feel the need to.
He's the most slated drummer in history. It's part of the percussion-related Zeitgeist to insult his talent. For every pro-Ringo stance I see 5 insults. Either way, Ringo and Watts were *perfect* for their respective bands.
@babyshambler Yes, they probably were. I'm not insulting his talent or saying that he isn't talented. I'm saying that he's very over-rated as a drummer, which is true. I couldn't care less what other posters have to say about him. Moonie, on the other hand, was amazing, almost super-human, and much more of an asset to his band.
I disagree on the 'overrated' subject. He's more insulted than praised, and in my opinion, unjustly. Where we do agree is that Keith Moon was superior. Keith blows my mind. I still can't quite 'get' the ending of Behind blue eyes. There's his inner-metrinome again eh!
Your a bit of a wally, The scope of the music compiled by the Beatles, was very well supported by Ringo's skill.No other group spanned quite the same arc. Next you'll be running your mouth and telling the world that Sandy Nelson was mediocre at best, then we can really open the floodgates of reason!
@babyshambler ridiculous - he was perhaps not the most technically proficient, and certainly not the fastest or showiest drummer, but he had a great sense of the music and his playing was incredibly tasty. You you really think the rest of the band would have kept him did they not think he was a great musician?
Sure they are, and they both laugh all the way to the bank, when they hear comments like yours!!! Money talks and BS walks,......wish I were over-rated and getting the money Ringo and Charlie were picking up.

Moon vs Starr? The comparison is almost ridiculous. Yes, they were both rock drummers but, it's like saying both an Aston Martin and Land Rover are cars, yes they're both cars but, totally different and after completely different things in life.
Both drummers are great ,perfect,,but you cant beat John from Led Zeppelin he had it as far as i know anyway thats my opinion taste in rock...So rock on,you crazy diamonds..
Actually...Keith Moon wanted badly to join the Beatles. Even Pete Townshend said that Keith would drop the Who to join the Beatles if John Lennon would ask him.
Is that all 's got to worry about... whether or not Keith Moon is better than Ringo Starr? Well what a sad empty life he must be living. Get a life you dummies.
ringo is a solid drummer with a great feel. he did some amazing things, the fills on a day in the life is a great example. but nobody can touch moon, he was in a catagory all his own.
@four4321 I have to strongly disagree with you on that. Keith was such an amazing drummer and performer, but Bonham's talent is much more subtle most of the time. Bonham's groove and sense of rhythm was matched by few drummers that I've heard. Not to mention that they're drumming relied on completely different playing styles, Bonham being much more oriented in blues roots. I'm all for differing opinions and tastes, but to say that Moon was far better than Bonham is pushing it for me...[cont]
@four4321 ...[cont.] Keith was just an outright animal when he played, which is awesome to watch. What's great about Bonham though, besides his pounding, in-your-face beats, were the subtle things that a casual listener wouldn't appreciate: his half-time shuffles, the double kicks he sneaks in at the perfect places, his roll technique from the toms to the snare. Much love for Keith though. Also, if you aren't familiar with him, check out Mitch Mitchell.
@rpsmith014 i have always thought that myself ...how much moon/mitchell sound alike.I never liked bonhams big sound -but his groove is the strongest i have heard ..far more dicipline in his playing ..and ringo was obviously the least technical ...but my god he knew how to play for the part -as did bonham .As much as i admire moon and mitchell ..they can be a little bit grating on my ears after a while ...but if your in the mood for it -WHACK ! they go for the throat dont they !!! Cheers !
@TheMichaelseymour haha, man I wish here in America we had some sort of word or phrase similar to cheers! Bonham, Moon, Mitchell, Ringo, they are all good for different things, and I love em' all! One drummer I have yet to gain respect for though is Neil Peart. That may change one day, but now I just see him as an emotionless technique robot. He looks so bored when he plays and that really turns me off of drummers. I'll just borrow your word, Cheers!
John Lennon (in a Playboy interview, 1980): "Ringo's a damn good drummer. He was always a good drummer. I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way Paul's bass-playing is underrated. Paul and Ringo stand up anywhere with any of the rock musicians."
@RingoDude66 He is not bad drummer this is true, but Keith is best drummer (with John Bohnam), and drum battle Ringo and Keith look alike Achilles and the Tortoise.
When you see Ringo the song playing is "The End" from "Abbey Road." When you see Keith Moon you hear "Won't Get Fooled Again" from "Who's Next." I originally thought the Keith Moon parts were "Pure And Easy" from "Odds And Sods," but it's "Won't Get Fooled..."
For me... Its Ringo.. because his drumming skill were complicated and playful... im not saying that keith moon was not good... i like his drumming skills.. but for me ringo was more creative..
@AlwaysToThePoint No doubt Neil Peart is a much more technical drummer than Keith Moon ever was. Neil Peart is the result of study and practice. However you can't learn to be a Keith Moon style drummer, you either have it or you don't.
@fireman4453 What a stupid comment. Unlike noobs like you, professionals like Peart know music isn't about competition, it's about style, feel, and soul. If you've read anything about Peart, you'd know Keith Moon was his earliest and biggest influence as a drummer. So your competitive comments are uninformed and absurd. and Peart would be the first one to tell you you're wrong.
got to say...when I read "Ringo & Keith drum battle" this wasn't what I expected. expected much more of a drum-off. the two of them trading 8's & then 4's then attack each other. You know, Keith Moon is pretty average, compared to todays rock drummers. It's the truth.
The genre moves on. Things go out of fashion.
Was Ringo, one of the best of his genre, of his time - of course he was
As was Moon.
Seriously, don't try and claim Moon's drumming in 1970, is better than any modern rock you see today. As it's not

Is the Ringo solo from "The End"? If so, I heard that Paul actually did that drum solo.

what is the name of this song please?
rock696900 4 months ago
@rock696900

For me... Its Ringo.. because his drumming skill were complicated and playful... im not saying that keith moon was not good... i like his drumming skills.. but for me ringo was more creative..

then neil peart comes in and destroys them.
fireman4453 4 months ago
@fireman4453
I'd be interested to hear what Peart himself would say about that. Moon is the destroyer of Worlds.
babyshambler 4 months ago
@babyshambler
Neil Peart would be far too modest to actually come out and SAY anything about that.
He'd just sit down at the kit and PROVE it ;)

@AlwaysToThePoint
Ahhh, well we could go back and forth..denying each others opinions, but who can be bothered eh! :)
Moon changed the instrument.
babyshambler 4 months ago 12
@AlwaysToThePoint No doubt Neil Peart is a much more technical drummer than Keith Moon ever was. Neil Peart is the result of study and practice. However you can't learn to be a Keith Moon style drummer, you either have it or you don't.

@babyshambler moon is pearts fav drummer,read it in a rush book!
bigvdogg1 4 months ago
@babyshambler moon is pearts fav drummer,his own words!
bigvdogg1 4 months ago
@fireman4453 What a stupid comment. Unlike noobs like you, professionals like Peart know music isn't about competition, it's about style, feel, and soul. If you've read anything about Peart, you'd know Keith Moon was his earliest and biggest influence as a drummer. So your competitive comments are uninformed and absurd. and Peart would be the first one to tell you you're wrong.
