No this is considered the outskirts of downtown. These areas need to be bulldozed just like the old housing projects. That's the only way to clean it up. Landlords will rent junk as long as they have renters. Sad! BTW - black people get mad when white people use the "N" word. Well it starts at home. If you want other people not use then black people need to stop using it.
I'm sorta confused by the comments saying that this is downtown ATL ... I drove thru Atlanta in September, and, ... yeah, I was on I 75 the whole time, but I didn't see any of this. It was downtown, and skyscrapers, an' glass bldgs, ... and I drove past the Braves' Stadium, .... this is all downtown?
@groofoot no actually downtown is better in my opinion.....this is west of downtown in my opinion downtown was alot worse when techwood/clark howell was standing the roughest part of downtown now i would say is 4th ward/bedford pines area the rest of the rough spots are on the east/west/ and south parts of the city
Wow...I live 45 minutes away from downtown in the subarbs of Atlanta...I've never seen this...It's unreal to me...Wow. I didn't even know it was this bad.
@Mr404770678 I live in the subarbs of Atlanta like I've said. In Duluth. I've been in Atlanta since I was 2. And we only go to the downtown area for a baseball game or something of that sort, otherwise we won't step foot in there. How long have you been in Atlanta? You should know that only downtown Atlanta is ghetto and nasty. The rest is great.
I would like to hear one of the fags from the home decorating shows describe the changes to this neighborhood with a positive twist. I want to hear all about the unique African-American flavor that abounds in the area. I can't wait to learn about artistic accents, such as plywood windows, that make a house "snap".
Unless YOU do something to prevent it from happening, a Black Trash makeover will be coming to YOUR neighborhood.
alot of niggas dont fuck wit the city i was over there when the miami boys and that shit my moms owned a store over there rip poochie tommy glass and my nigga malcom love yall niggas v.c for life
Vine City is still rough but not as bad going towards the North Side area. I bought a house and is living with my family there. Do your home work the Simpson corridor is coming. I found over 15M dollars worth of property bought buy
JDL and just a few months ago they changed my block to mixed use low density. Thats commercial.
That's good to know. I buy property too and looked over that area. I know it's coming up but I gotta be able to go to the property without have to look over my back. It doesn't help that they just closed the Publix in that area.
@carl2fine i believe they're gonna try and gentrify that ares soon....my friend's grandpa lives off ashby and i just have that feelings cause he's had some offers
Bondage, I dare you to walk thru Vine City. What you're saying is like just cause Bankead Courts and Bowen Homes are boarded and fenced up, Bankhead ain't strong no more. Be smart folks.
I walked through vine city, it's an urban jungle in the heart of Atlanta, it's a shame, really, how messed up it is. It wouldn't be so bad if decent people would move into the area to gentrify it. It's in fact a very well located district; across street from the Dome, by GT, GSU, Morris Brown, etc... and there is a new police station off Magnolia street, too. City of Atlanta isn't doing enough to clean it up. Anywhere else in the world, it would be a high value location.
@bondage2012 urban gentrification is a horrible thing to the already impoverished members of these communities. I cant even begin to explain how selfish your point of view is
vine city is not even that ghetto, just a bunch of abandoned houses. if not for the economic crisis, it would be gentrified into an vibrant community.
I completely disagree...the recession does affect it but why would someone want to live in a brand new house in that neighborhood if the environment is still the same. Open your eyes there are new houses already boarded up. Those houses are havens for the homeless during the winter-the houses don't even have a chance to be sold.
I completely disagree with you. Houses are in fact being sold there as we speak and at tremendous values. A brand spanking new 2 story home for under $50,000. Gentrification is the term of the day. Only if people invest into the community, it would turn around even faster. People get shot anywhere. In rough hoods it's probably gang related or mugging; in nice suburbs, it's domestic violence. But all in all, generally speaking, people don't mess around in the environment they live in.
(your last sentence) Are you saying no one wants to live in a nice area...? That neighborhood and English Avenue make up 2% of Atlanta's population and are responsible for 10% of the crime. There is no real amenities over there. Don't me get wrong I love the neighborhood but it's not a desirable area for someone from the suburbs. Post Script: We don't really do that gang shit, and gentrification is not necessarily a good thing (please remove it from the term of the day).
