@MrJFlashify I don't know dude, GG is in its own class. Ive never seen a weekly, episodic show largely geared toward teens that was so intelligent. This is a perfect example! The girls talk about Kids In The Hall, Norman Mailer, Jack Kerouac, Chuck Berry, etc
My hair is long and black....and I like both sparks and Emo Phillips. HA! Both were interests were acquired from a friend of mind with short red hair... Sparks + Emo = nifty people.
How extraordinary! I did not know that so many liked both Emo and Sparks! Their sort of humour must be similar, I haven't really analyzed it, but.. Oh, in the song Good Morning, when they sing "I hope it's just your laugh that is infectious", I was thinking it sounded like an Emo Philips-joke!
I hated Gilmore girls but always found myself watching it cos there was nothing else on. Watching the conversations swing back and forth in that show gave me a headache and made me dizzy. Of course this is one of the rare few episodes i missed.
I'll second that, LAMLKMHWC1. (How can you remember that when you log in..!?) Russell is so cute in this video, it must be the 40th time I've seen this video or so, just to see "Well, screeew the past.."
Gilmore Girls is my favorite show, and I can't believe I didn't know the Sparks when this episode aired. I'm so delighted that Ron and Russell were on. AMAZING!
I have newfound respect for "The Gilmore Girls" now. Sort of like when "Tiny Toon Adventures" played music by They Might Be Giants. Some acts are too hip to be kept a secret forever. God bless Ron and Russell!
This street performance could be the perfect American metaphor for Sparks. They are EXPONENTIALLY more talented than most musicians and their music is brilliant. But because of the mediocrity/ignorance of the american public they may as well be street musicians. Very funny. Or should I say very sad.
I'm trying to remember if I just shrugged off their appearance when I saw that episode - and it was VERY recent. Yours is an excellent point, but if it hadn't been for the US apathy in the early 70s,they would never have moved to London,to secure their place in History.(They'd have enough tongue in cheek to even appear on Scrubs - I think the Mael bros got the last laugh, fear not.
Sparks are still awesome, I've never saw this until now. They're really lovely!

@MrJFlashify There's also a few other times that they play sparks songs in it in the background. That's how I heard about the band.

The Sparking Emos?

Haha, I think any title with the word "Emo" in it would arouse suspicion.. The Sparking Emo-philiacs maybe?

I just wish there was a full length version of this ...... street corner version, with just the vocals and keys.
