I'd bet Seagal has skill in a lot of styles except capoeira. He's got tons of experience and pretty big, so if today was his prime he may avoid those problems kimbo slice and brock lesner encountered. But with all his mystique Im sure he'd prefer not be put test at that level, It'd likely be disappointing

@jhodson91 im a 3rd dan blackbelt in tae kwon do, going for 4th this year and i can confess truly with no doubt in my mind what so ever, that a 15 year old, who weighs 65 kg, 3rd dan black-belt in aikido would slaughter me in a fight. hands down.

@xfiveonefour being a cop means nothing when it comes to fighting.(thugs beat cops up all the time with no prior training lol). Seagal does a Martial art known as Akido which is based around momentum and reversing attacks via wrist locks. In a MMA fight, akido will get you knocked out in 6 seconds. TKD and BJJ which Rogan trains, are two of the most useful and powerful tools of MMA. To even have a chance of beating Rogan, Seagal will need at least some Judo and Submission defense. : )
@EaglePartners All solid points except even Rogan said TKD is pretty useless even though it was his bread and butter. He's got a really good interview on it somewhere on here. TKD doesn't have much use in MMA. I think maybe you're think Mua Thai, that is usually the striking base most seem to rely on. Seagal is a phoney who believes his own movie magic bullshit.

@EaglePartners the main reason why aikido isn't used in mma because a lot of it's moves include small joint manipulation which isn't allowed in mma....plus it's a pain in the ass to do small joint manipulations with 4oz gloves on...now if it's a street fight aikido can be very useful.

@tinman765 Not really. You have to consider the fact that Aikdo only works against strikes that are familiar - Technique is difficult to adapt to street fights as they may end up going to the ground and be unpredictable.

Sports like basketball and football have more delinquents than any fighting sport, and fighting has existed since the beginning of time. TKD is useful? With very very few exceptions (Edson Barbosa knockout comes to mind- even then, one lucky kick), TKD is worthless in MMA. There is even a video on youtube where Joe Rogan talks about how useless TKD is despite him earning a black belt in it. He says something like "I had become very good in something that sucks" referring to TKD. Also, small joint manipulation (Akido) is illegal in MMA. Rogan would beat Segal anyday, and he didn't get owned here. /JS

@RuthlessViking1 The most Seagal did was modify the kicks. I wouldn't doubt that he did that much considering how ruthless the snap was on those kicks compared to earlier in their careers. Definitely didn't teach them though, Blackhouse must have something to gain by saying Seagal taught em those kicks.

@RuthlessViking1 Definitely. As much as I hate seagal I'm glad he got them to utilize their front kicks more. I always thought it was a great technique for mma, especially if you want to unpredictable, but never knew how effective it could be before.

@yeahbitchimjoe The UFC rules are very lenient, they should be like pride with all types of elbows allowed and headbutts allowed with no gloves at all, althought he current gloves are not taking much of the power out. Still the bottom line is the rules allow for most of the techniques in any traditional art, if say aikido was so effective you would see akidoka's braking everyone's wrists and arms etc then tossing them to the canvas, in reality nobody ever uses the moves as they don't work......

What I mean to say is UFC rules are lenient as in they allow a lot of techniques, but they should be more like pride was with even more things allowed. This way it would be extremely similar to a real fight with only the fact that people couldn't gauge, fishhook, bite, pull hair, hit the groin or stamp the the knee when the opponents leg is side on. So everything but six techniques, two of which aren't effective anyway.
@jhodson91 Seagal has been doing many martial arts for decades. He is just most famous for his Aikido accomplishments, besides Taekwondo is far more useless in a fight than a Aikido. Aikido focuses on large joint and small joint manipulations, very painful shit. As well as judo esk throws and takedowns. Also Seagal has extensive knowledge in deadly strikes to vulnerable points on the body. Just because Seagal has no BJJ belt doesn't mean hes not an effective martial artist. Respect.

@xfiveonefour being a cop means nothing when it comes to fighting.(thugs beat cops up all the time with no prior training lol). Seagal does a Martial art known as Akido which is based around momentum and reversing attacks via wrist locks. In a MMA fight, akido will get you knocked out in 6 seconds. TKD and BJJ which Rogan trains, are two of the most useful and powerful tools of MMA. To even have a chance of beating Rogan, Seagal will need at least some Judo and Submission defense. : )

TKD doesn't have much use in MMA. I think maybe you're think Mua Thai, that is usually the striking base most seem to rely on. Seagal is a phoney who believes his own movie magic bullshit.

@EaglePartners the main reason why aikido isn't used in mma because a lot of it's moves include small joint manipulation which isn't allowed in mma....plus it's a pain in the ass to do small joint manipulations with 4oz gloves on...now if it's a street fight aikido can be very useful.

TKD is useful? With very very few exceptions (Edson Barbosa knockout comes to mind- even then, one lucky kick), TKD is worthless in MMA. There is even a video on youtube where Joe Rogan talks about how useless TKD is despite him earning a black belt in it. He says something like "I had become very good in something that sucks" referring to TKD. Also, small joint manipulation (Akido) is illegal in MMA. Rogan would beat Segal anyday, and he didn't get owned here. /JS

@yeahbitchimjoe The UFC rules are very lenient, they should be like pride with all types of elbows allowed and headbutts allowed with no gloves at all, althought he current gloves are not taking much of the power out. Still the bottom line is the rules allow for most of the techniques in any traditional art, if say aikido was so effective you would see akidoka's braking everyone's wrists and arms etc then tossing them to the canvas, in reality nobody ever uses the moves as they don't work......

What I mean to say is UFC rules are lenient as in they allow a lot of techniques, but they should be more like pride was with even more things allowed. This way it would be extremely similar to a real fight with only the fact that people couldn't gauge, fishhook, bite, pull hair, hit the groin or stamp the the knee when the opponents leg is side on. So everything but six techniques, two of which aren't effective anyway.

@jhodson91 Seagal has been doing many martial arts for decades. He is just most famous for his Aikido accomplishments, besides Taekwondo is far more useless in a fight than a Aikido. Aikido focuses on large joint and small joint manipulations, very painful shit. As well as judo esk throws and takedowns. Also Seagal has extensive knowledge in deadly strikes to vulnerable points on the body. Just because Seagal has no BJJ belt doesn't mean hes not an effective martial artist. Respect.
