this is a great peom but the lines that i love in this peom are so beautiful this is what they are: "Sweet love of youth, forgive, if i forget thee, while the world's tide is bearing me along, other desires and other hopes best me, hopes which obscure, but cannot do thee wrong,

Emily Brontë did not entitle this beautiful poem "Remembrance". In the complete poems, edited by C.W. Hatfield the poem is listed as being written March 3, 1845 with the title, "R.Alcona To J. Brenzaida". The names refer to Rosina Alcona and Julius Brenzaida, who were characters in her Gondal story. I find the thought expressed in the final three stanzas, a turning point, to be an uncommonly powerful rendering of human feeling. Thank you for uploading this poem.
Although I am an absolute Bronté Fan, for over half a century, I must
say that I am of the opinion that living next door to a dreary graveyard must
indeed have influenced their writing. I live in Germany where graveyards are
mostly a riot of flowers and light. But the UK of the Brontés time was so very dreary and horrible. It is no wonder they wrote mostly of death and decay and endless sorrow. As a teacher I find it impossible to make a young student understand the depression in this poem.
