  • One of my all time favourte songs. I remember my Mom tidying the kitchen singing along to this when I was 12. Wonderful memory.

  • Mel Carter also appeared on "GOOD TIMES"! He was the one who claimed to be "Robert Redford" in the club J.J. was at!

  • - - they tell me be sensable with your new love - - don't be fooled thinking this is the last you'll find - - but they've never been in the dark with you -

  • the overdubbing of the background female vocalists sound stunning!

  • I'm from Adelaide in South Australia and i am like you all, i so love this song it is so timeless in its message across all generations. I'm 61 now and it touches my heart just as profoundly as it did when I was a teenager. Precious.

  • *memories* of an early crush at age 10 or so. This song was #now playing. Love it still!

  • I wish i was from this time to dance this song. Im tired of these new songs from generation. im 19

  • @oshitomaha Check & see if there are any clubs that have the fifties or 60's dance nights. If not gather your friends who are like minded & start your own! You are not limited! Go for it. And I am a JOHNNY CONTARDOAHOLIC. Check out Sha na na . He is the lead singer (was). You will love them. On YouTube.

  • @cajanwitch60 thats a good idea man but there are no clubs around here that have the 50s or 60s dance nights. I've looked. And my friends hahaha they don't dare to listen to this song for a second. They all listen to new crap. I'll see what I can do though. Thanks

  • @oshitomaha Do you have a weekly penny pincher? Run an add. People from all around still read them looking for a good deal. Just put a little ad in & see what happens. We used to have a Swing club. All 30's & 40's. Katrina did away with half of the beach along the Gulf Coast. Good luch!

  • beautiful song, very meaningful, they don't make them like this anymore

  • @JusticeNoobish

    I second that emotion! :-)

  • I remember hearing this song in Cincinnati, Ohio not knowing that mel is from

    Cincinnati, ohio. You go melvin.

  • ANYONE who is in love will understand the meaning of what love for another really means!!!

  • My daughter, who is 6 years old heard me playing this song, and came in the room and asked me to play it again. She ended up listening to it three more times. Then she sat in the computer chair and read the comment that said " love this song". She laughed and asked me to type a comment in for her --- so here it is ...... SERENA MITRE LOVES THIS SONG, AND THE WAY HE SINGS!

Yeah. mommy feels the same way....

  • love this song

check out my acoustic songs please that I write and make !

  • "They told me, 'Be sensible with your new love,

Don't be fooled, thinking this is the last you'll find,'

But they never stood in the dark with you love,

When you take me in your arms and drive me slowly out of my mind."

They just don't write lyrics like this anymore. Simply amazing!

  • I loved this song back in the day and I love it today! It's timeless and so is Mel Carter's rendition. THX!

  • I was born two years AFTER Mel's timeless recording became a hit, but it's always seemed to me one of the most truly heartfelt pop balads ever. When I caught him performing live on one of those PBS Doo Wop specials it literally took my breath away. Look for a YouTube link of Mel performing it live in 2007 at the Alabama Music Awards.... If anything his voice sounds even better today... What a talent!
