I was born two years AFTER Mel's timeless recording became a hit, but it's always seemed to me one of the most truly heartfelt pop balads ever. When I caught him performing live on one of those PBS Doo Wop specials it literally took my breath away. Look for a YouTube link of Mel performing it live in 2007 at the Alabama Music Awards.... If anything his voice sounds even better today... What a talent!
