@Pcerebro It's just George singing alone this and "Window, Window" back to back during that same session to the other 3. At these times, also "Let It Down", "Hear Me Lord", "Something", "Old Brown Shoe", "I Me Mine", ATMP, "How Do You Tell Someone?" were all offered by George, and all rejected at least for the time being. It is amazing that only "For You Blue", the weakest of'em all, was the only George song they formally recorded during these sessions. (IMM, OBS & Something were recorded later)
Thanks to whoever for capturing this. Thanks for uploading for all of us to enjoy. Didn't realize George's song went back to this session.
With Beatles in mind, I've posted the video, "40 years in 3 minutes", which is a music video containing the Beatles' rooftop performance, historical events over the last 40 years and 8mm film antics from the period, all cut tightly to GET BACK and GLASS ONION. Hope you enjoy!
@rothwell59 Which is a pity, to say the least. This is one I really don't get (John or Paul not wanting to record this as a Beatles song). Isn't It A Pity is one of the finest songs George ever wrote. It would have graced any Beatles record it would have been part of, and is IMO superior to For You Blue, which was recorded and included for release. George fortunately recorded it formally for ATMP, but the lack of respect John/Paul showed this song still confuses me. But they disrespected GH too.
I think that Lennon saw the handwriting on the wall. George had come into his own as an even better song writer than Lennon. That would have made it a McCartney Harrison collaboration. Yoko and Lennon had no where else to go with their drug induced BS but out the door.
@avyanez there is video of lennon and yoko being interviewed in the offices of Apple by an American correspondent where Lennon says that he no longer wants to share space on albums and that he was seeing this as a limitation.
@corkbender That's easy. They worked as session musicians on each others projects. The songs were written by the person that had their name on the album. More song credits mean more profit. John Lennon didn't collect the royalty payment for any project that George was producing and vice versa.
Isn't it a pity that the album was (over)produced by that weirdo, Phil Spector, who added so much bullcrap and garbage to what was an excellent bunch of songs and performances. Somehow the album managed to survive, unlike Lana Clarkson, who he murdered nearly as bad he did Let It Be.
I'd love to be able to hear All Things Must Pass without all the wall of bombastic bullshit.
I felt this song was appropriate to be added to my web blog titled: ''Wasn't Jesus an Activist?" by Bill Woollam" Just Google that ....for a completely different perspective on global banking fraud and global warfare today...if you're interested.
how the hell did the rest of the beatles hear this song and not put it on the let it be album? Besides let it be, this would probably be my favorite song on that album.
By far my favorite Harrison song. This demo is raw and u can hear the other beatles, (especially Paul), talking in the background. I definitely have to get a copy of the Get Back Sessions. I bet there are some real gems on there.
If this song was released by the Beatles I suppose it would have had a completely different arrangement. We can just wonder, but it would be very interesting the "Isn't a pity" inside version for "Abbey Road", for instance.
isn`t it a pity that the beatles separated and never released another album with songs like junk, imagine, isn`t it a pity and all things must pass, after all these song where at the time evolving to what we know today
I don't think this is authentic......I've listened to a lot of Beatles and George Harrison and this is not his voice. The spoken part at 0:23 is George, but the rest-- I don't think it is.
Paul says, "It's a beautiful song, really," like George shot him a bit of a depressed look, like, "Why do you keep talking in the background while I'm trying to promote this song? Do you not like it?" At least that's my spin on it. D: It's sad, because even to the end it was, at it's heart, about Lennon/McCartney (as seen in "I Me Mine").
George's voice just sounds right with an acoustic guitar. It's almost bizarre to listen to something like "If I Needed Someone" and then listen to this or the original "All Things Must Pass" demo because he went from the distant 3rd best singer to the best, in my opinion. Isn't it a pity that this wasn't a Beatle track and yet somehow "Two of Us" survived?
Think about the productivity within these 18 months you have all of the Let It Be material ,Ballad of John And Yoko/Old Brown Shoe, Abby Road, Instant Karma, the McCartney album, Plastic Ono Band and All Things Must Pass and even if you discpunt the McCartney album as a low key affair you have three masterpieces amongst the greatest albums of all time...amazing
Had the Beatles stayed together...you have to wonder what they could have done with the All Things must Pass songs by George as opposed to the Spector versions.
'Let it Be' album could have easily had the following songs: Isnt it a Pity, All things must pass, Junk, Dont let me down. Replace those with the filler: one after 909, for you blue, Dig a pony and you hav ethe best Beatles album!
Man.. with all due respect to Lennon & McCartney, I cannot help but feel so upset with them right now.. for not recognizing beautiful music when they hear it.
I believe its Paul at the end of the clip saying 'beautiful song'. Also, its Paul in the studio that helped George with the 'All things must pass' chorus. Paul gets a bad rap. He was a perfectionist and was just trying to get the best out of everyone. John, meanwhile, was isolated & George probably resented that more.
For the record it's not Paul - he wasn't at the studio yet. This was the first song recorded on January 26th. The only people present at the studio at this time were George, Ringo, George Martin, Glyn Johns and the film crew. Paul arrived during Ringo's performance of "Octopus' Garden" which took place roughly around fifteen minutes after this performance
When George released All Things Must Pass album I think a lot of people were surprised by his talent which had mostly been kept by the wayside amongst the powerhouses of Lennon/McCartney. That album showed George's genuine caring and compassion....it is still, to this day, one of my favorite albums, with no frills, no promotion, just an album full of feelings and perhaps repressed emotions. God, I miss George!
Interesting that the track first featured on All Things Must Pass, yet rehearsed here when the Beatles were still together - possibly destined for a run on a Beatles album had the group not split.
@violetrod George's contributions to Let It Be and Abby Road were very solid ... particularly Abby Road, with Something, Here Comes the Sun and all the Moog synthesizer work (one of the first to use it effectively).
He was definitely at a peak of his powers, but amazingly, they all were. By 1970, they had just put in 10 intense years of recording the most inspired and amazing music the world had ever heard, and it was an incredible learning experience for each of them.
very obvious george had a big stash of songs built up just waiting to be released. the beatles had to break up in order for george to get his stuff out.
Paul and John just "ran" over Georges songs and Paul sometimes took away Georges guitar and did it on his own! The end was unavoidable bot "All things must pass!"
The beatles could of released all this material under their name, but iwonder if people would only buy or it would hit number onebecause it has the beatles under.
Brilliant as expected. Love you George.
