The US and USSR landers are based on real NASA study designs duing the early 1960s. I really liked this film because hardware was very historically accurate.
Hey, there's Major Burns from MASH TV show. I didn't realize that that was Ed Bishop until I saw the UFO TV show.

I loved the bit where Britain's contribution to the space race was revealed as one of the astronauts wearing a British made watch.
That just about sums up our space industry.
