I watched the old VC release of this relentlessly as a kid! A family friend loaned us a copy and didn't retrieve it for months. It twisted my mind, for the better..

Good stuff. To this day, I still have not seen it but I'll keep an eye out. The Aust DVD release is cut isn't it?

OMG Adam, you must see Maniac! It is an unparalleled classic in the slasher genre. The R-rated VCG release was indeed cut. The uncut version was given an X rating, but not apparently released by VC - it was one of the few non-porn titles to get an X back in 1984, along with VC's other release of Rosemary's Killer. I don't believe the X version of RK was ever released either.

Sorry I forgot to point out that the Australian DVD is completely uncut. Do avoid the UK release, as it was slightly cut by the BBFC.

I see, well I will try to track down the DVD from here (not much luck lately with stores lacking in good R rated gore) and as for the VCG release, I think unless I find it by chance in a bargain bin for $5 then I'll avoid it as I've seen the prices it goes for.
Once I've seen it I'll let you know what I thought of it. Thanks for the tips.
