As this was taken in 2009, the year of the European Parliament elections, the SLP gained 12,402 votes (1.8%), 9th place in the Wales constituency whereas the BNP gained 37,114 votes (5.4%), 7th place in the Wales constituency. However, nearly 2 years on from that, the Welsh Assembly elections arrived in which the SLP gained 23,020 votes (2.4%), 7th place but the BNP gained 22,610 votes (2.4%), 8th place. More people voted SLP instead of BNP for the 2011 Welsh Assembly!
