Both guys were misunderstood. Baer was a showman but became very good friends with Joe Louis and most know the Schmelling story. He did detest the arian-nazi movement and literally took care of Joe Louis financially in later years. They were very close. Max became a successful sode distribution owner.

They hated mischlngs almost more than they hated full Jews, because we "spoiled the Aryan race pool". And Schmeling was Hitler's favorite boxer, so the match at the time was huge.
