  • such a brilliant voice, and a beautiful woman

  • what was with us and doll heads in the 90's?

  • @69jenniferlove sure beats what the fuck is going on now. and the birthday massacre still uses doll images.

  • Mazzy Star and Cowgirl Radio for life.

  • SHE IS SAD BECAUSE SHE HAS DIARRHEA

BUT I THINK DIARRHEA IS FUN

  • SHE HAS DIARRHEA

  • o god she makes the most awsomely depressing songs:)

  • @MrCodplayer100 this isnt depressing. just good songwriting. and very bluesy. and a very nice nod to led zeppelin. good stuff mazzy star!

  • Whatever happened to real songwriting like this? Are we forever consigned to consuming this GaGa/Bieber/Kesha garbage?

  • @hardknox503 but garbage are awesum ;P

  • @hardknox503 oh certainly not, you just have to search far and wide for those hidden treasures. they are out there, just not internationally known but that just makes them all the more special ;)

  • @hardknox503 music always has it's trends, they will be gone soon enough. Just like MC Hammer and Debbie Gibson were once hot shit, they will fade. Lets just be thankful we we're able to experience Mazzy Star :)

  • Not only is Hope sexy as hell, but that voice...so haunting, seductive, but with a hint of mature innocence. I think I, I think I, I think I love her.

  • My friend introduced me to mazzy when I was at a breaking point in my life, I dont know why but she just eminates hope, I can feel her music threw my soul, her emotions, gah shes great.

  • This takes me back...Memories

  • very rad! im going to take some acid and sit in a dirt field with a small mud puddle next to me.

  • personally, the sundays can't hold mazzy star's jock.

  • god-damn she'z fucking fiiiiiiiiiiine. Fine w/a brain; my favorite combination.

  • Great song, shit, miss the 90s so much. There's a lot of great music these days, but you really need to go out and find it. Back then it was much easier.

By the way, the opening riff sounds a little to the live version of Swans' "I am the Sun", just a curious observation.

  • what a beautiful MEXICAN AMERICAN!

  • the best singer...

  • Wo ist die Zeit hin ...?

  • @andicom68 sehr wahr

  • great song & group. aweful sound quality.

  • @cureorin ......................that is part of her artful style. like so many other musicians who use records and allow the sound of the record player 2 remain

  • its like a series of paintings, the video makers are artistic genius..pity its old technology

  • Hope Sandoval = Winning

  • Cool Video! Mazzy Star old time Fave ...

  • this looks spooky

  • Regresen Mazzy Star, nos hacen falta en la musica actual, en la Alternativa y en el Rock, please Mazzy return to music, congratlations from México...

  • @josejuanperezramos She has put out two albums with a new band in the past 10 years. Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions. Their first album "Bavarian Fruit Bread" came out in 2001, and their latest album "Through the Devil Softly" came out in 2009. Both albums are excellent. I would even call "Through the Devil Softly" a masterpiece.

Here is are a few tracks from that album:

    /watch?v=W6euSsP_PCA

  • I've been in love twice in my life. The first was a girl like Mazzy Star. The second was Mazzy Star.

  • @bretroable her name is hope sandoval..

  • Can see where Oasis have taken influence from this

  • sometimes im afraid of her...but at the end you got to love her...i dont know why but i love her so much im really scared of her...any of you feel like that?

  • this video is simply a piece of gold!

  • @quebienchingasmecae of gold ?????

    of shit.!!!

  • I think I just discovered the meaning of life.

  • Hope is the devil...i know she is..

  • @italiarosoneris But we love it when we're spinning in her grip.

  • @TheFriedEgg that's for sure...i wanna burn in hell

  • holy fuck this is so amazingly haunting. like bill nye on acid haunting.

  • Let us al float together then, into the higher planes. We don't know eachother, but we know of eachother.

  • Hope would you be my baby, forever, and ever!

  • i like the way she moves her eyes!

  • Whoever connects to this video&song is able to float to HIGHER planes... than those that 'don't get it'.

  • @blackwarb that is elitist hogwash. So anyone who does not share your personal taste of music is somehow inferior. I hope you see how fucked up that line of thinking is.

  • @omnivorous65 calm down:) I'm not saying anyone's lesser or better being.

  • @blackwarb Duh....its about a frog...who wouldnt get that?

  • Comment removed

  • @jayocular sarcasm people...we get it

  • fascinating rif and song, I like to play Mazzy Star while makeing breakfeast on saturday mornings.

  • I saw a site with forums speculating on suspected gay/bi,presenting evidence.Hope's one of the suspects 'cause of songs like this superficially sounding lesbian to some("she's my baby").But I've seen no biog. info. linking Hope romantically to any other than men.I think she just does what female novelists do when writing a male character 's viewpoint. In her song "Halah" it's quite clear :"I guess that you believe you are a woman

And that I am someone else's man".Not gay. Using her imagination!

  • she's........................just like lightnin'

  • ahh yes..she cuts herself...

  • I just want to chain her to my bed, to sing me to sleep every damn night.

  • We can't stop here! .....This is bat country!

  • @youkilledkiller22 What the fuck are we doing out here in the middle of the desert!!

  • All I can think of is riding in a convertible listening to this with the top down on a long Texas highway. Very blue z.

  • man...that tree frog...honestly...something wind blows and the frogs come in...and the spirit is invited....and u wake with the leap off your face....to see him on the wall. ....She 'm my baby aint that something...but I know she belongs...to u.

  • Does anyone who's commenting here really know what this songs about?.......It makes it 1000 times better...makes me never what to do ******....much respect for Hope making it through.

  • Don't forget her band - they make up the other half of why this song is so fucking awesome.

  • the greatest voice I´ve ever heard in my entire life!!!!!

  • classic Mazzy Star -- classic Hope ... Deep, Dark, & Beautiful!

  • Hope Sandoval kicks tail!!! :)

  • i heart mazzy star

  • What is this song about?

  • @mahogonywhisper

    My baby.

  • gorgeous

  • the 90s were just the fucking best

where did the artists go? capitalism ruins everything. they perverted and sold until they squeezed out real art like a cancer or a weed would

  • Awesome..Love this & you..

  • Hope Sandoval and her voice are a few of the most beautiful things to grace the music world in the last 15 years of music (at least in my mind)

  • @stickman225 well said

  • @stickman225 i completely agree

  • @stickman225 .................her voice is so entrancing, I could pour it in my cereal in the morning, in my ham sandwich for lunch, and pour it over my steak at dinner.

  • She's my baby,she belongs to me.

  • Hope Sandoval is so hot in this video and all of their videos.

  • Great song by a great band. Hope's voice is so bluesy and haunting on this track.

  • alternative at it's best!

  • such an amazing goddamn song

an amazing band, with an amazing front lady.

A mate intorduced me to them a while back, I am so glad he did.

    Love them.

    Brilliant band.

    Rock on fellas.

  • Strange, Psychodelic and experimental music..her voice somewhat reminds me of Patti Smith in this track..

A very interesting cocktail of music...I like this and it goes in my Playlist...:-)

  • great thanks 5*****

  • i guess you wont even pass her lips then !!! la la la

  • unforgettable and wonderful music, i never get tired of listening to Mazzy Star and Hope Sandovals unique voice

  • she has two bands, mazzy star and the other one is Hope sandoval and the warm inventions, mazzy star is better in my opinion, the other band is good too, but Mazzy Star songs are a bit more interesting. I think this lady could join any band and make it good, her voice, sexy and overwhelming, kind of like a female version of johnny cash on synthetic opiates with a gothic twist

  • theres much more to life than fucking.

  • @JamesTheGoat biologically? not really. that's pretty much what disturbs most humans. our ability to think has made us aware of the futility and simplicity of our natural design

  • @JamesTheGoat ...Wow,hard to believe from someone with your handle!..Don't know about you,but at my age, after burying my only child and watching the love of my life become a meth head and losing my job while I was diagnosed with a bone degenerative disease in my legs,What is left?.....enjoy while you can, carnal pleasures will always stay in your mind, that's a good thing

  • @Anaris10 Nice

  • @JamesTheGoat but its still 2nd best..right place wrong time.....lol...

  • Hope Sandoval has just released a new album !! YAY !! I love that lady !! and yes her name is Hope, the band is Mazzy Star

  • D.R.U.G.S.

  • @RemusRomulus360 -J.E.S.U.S. God the son

  • THis was such a kick-ass band. They kind of just came and went. They had mainstream success but remained obscure. In fact i always thought the girls name was Mazzy Star.

  • the reason they came and went is because it is really a band of vampire immortals who must move on.

  • I have never noticed that women in the background coming in at 1:27 Is it hope?

  • exactly Gary, people keep ssaying they like her music, whilest she does have a solo career here it is they not her, and many keep saying that. Hope is talented and sexy as hell, and my wife, okay I wish on that last part, lol.

  • What a beautifully surreal and eerie song, it sounds like a female version of something from one of Syd Barrett's solo albums.

  • Unfreaking believable artistry. Why does anyone listen to Jessica Simpson! Please explain this to me.

  • Because some people cant handle this. ummm real music you know

  • i am from the 80's era, it was full of what I'm talking about, different, non predictable. Because i still love that kind of stuff, I prefer the more innovative and interesting music like this we all like on this post rather than buble gummy pop barbie girl garb, cheers!

  • You bring up a good point-I have always felt there are two types of listeners-One is mainstream and pop radio, then there are us who are more of the underground, the B-side, non top 40, who appreciate the more experimental side of things.

  • @CSuTuber seriously

  • Maybe b/c she RULES? Duh

  • @CSuTuber That is because they have never heard good real music in ther life.

  • @CSuTuber Needs and expectations

  • @CSuTuber I wish I could explain it. I want real music back. It makes me so depressed to think the manufactured, nauseating, crap that has no depth, is what the corporate labels will only promote. We need another punk/grunge type revolution to kick the door down again, and let real music through. In the meantime, thank God there's always college radio to play the indie & unsigned bands.

  • @markd325

    Hell yeah

  • @markd325 Define "real music". As far as I'm concerned, music is universal and it IS "real". Just because it's changed and is no longer in accordance with your notions that doesn't mean it's not "real". The computer you used to type that comment isn't "real" either in your sense.

Sorry, just saying. I know where you're coming from, but there's no logical validation in it.

  • @RockAustinDXtakerRk0 You missed my point. Read my last sentence about college radio & indie & unsigned bands. There is real music out there today. Whether is rock, hip-hop or trance. What I'm saying is that all we can hear today is what the corporate labels, & the radio stations they own, will sign & play. They don't want to take any chances on anything that isn't manufactured, formulaic, uninventive. If Mazzy Star was trying to break through today, they wouldn't have a chance. And that's sad.

  • @RockAustinDXtakerRk0 Oh, & by real music, just to clarify, I don't mean it has to organic. Bass, guitar, drums, piano, etc... Look at the playlists on my channel. I love rock, classical, jazz, ambient, trance, hip-hop, techno, punk, & all sorts of world music. By real I mean it's raw, from the heart, an artistic expression of what the musician is feeling. There's real music out there. There always is. I feel bad for kids today that the outlets only play the safe BS Clear Channel tells them to.

  • @markd325 I completely understand where you're coming from. I also used to think like you. I still do, but I'm not against todays music. I may not enjoy some of it, but that I respect the fact that many other people do and that speaks volumes. Tomorrow when I'm all grown up and the next generation is listening to more watered-down Techno, Hip Hop etc. I could say I feel sorry for them since they're unable to enjoy "real" music, but it's all about time. Though I see where you're coming from.

  • @RockAustinDXtakerRk0 :) Bro, all I'm saying is that b/c all the media outlets for music are so controlled by just a few corporations, kids today aren't getting a chance to hear SO MUCH of what's out there. Whether it's stuff from earlier generations, my generation, & especially theirs. Millions of people love bubblegum pop, & that's cool. In this bat-shit crazy world we need some completely feel good, fun, cheesy tunes. Hell, that's why I actually own an ABBA album. I'm not against today's...

  • @RockAustinDXtakerRk0 ..music. But unless there's someone to show kids how/where to find alternative outlets, all they'd hear is Disney artists, safe pop/rock, formulaic hip-hop, & the descendants of Britney Spears. People like them & that's cool. But fuck, there's so much more out there. Bands today always talk bout how the music biz is dead. No one will sign anybody unless they're a sure bet. It's all about the $. And thus art suffers. Kids hear only what the corporations allowed to be played.

  • @markd325 Well, the alternative music won't be played on the radio or aired on T.V, so people who are actually enthusiastic about experiencing new sounds will dig deeper, like I did. I listen to many underground Rappers, R&B artists and Rock bands.

This isn't a logical quick-fix as far as discussing it is concerned, so I'mma just leave it here. It's a "bat-shitty world" depending on how you see it. Yeah, it's crazy, but I try to make the most of my life and my surroundings. Life's precious.

  • Comment removed

  • @markd325 Actually we don't need corporate labels to do anything. All they'll do is jump in and commodify everything, water it down and basically ruin the underground scene the same way they did with punk. Corporate labels don't validate artists they only commercialize them. When you say you want real music back do you mean is that you want other people to listen to better music? As far as I can tell music is doing fine right now, underground is where art/ music does best.

  • @1con0clast I don't understand, what you didn't understand, as you just stated what I did. I know people trying to make their living as music artists. Yes, corporate labels don't validate artists. They never have. But any artist in the music biz today, will tell you that the the atmosphere for any artist that is following anything other than "safe" already known formula, does not have a chance. You & i know how to find the underground scene. But many do not these days. Kids can't hear...

  • @1con0clast ...anything other than top 40 (of whatever genre) on the radio. And the underground scene is not as prevalent as it once was. B/C kids can't hear some different kinds of music, that makes them hungry for more. But the biggest thing is that bands aren't getting a chance to break thru. I'm a little older than u, so I've seen the change. We're fans who'll find the music, but bands are trying to make a living doing this, & it's becoming harder, & for some impossible...

  • @1con0clast ...That means less bands/music that's out there. The underground scene, & the bands within, would be bigger. At least be able to sustain themselves. So, I know, don't look to corporate moguls for artistry. But talk to non-mainstream bands, & ask them just how disheartened they are, & how much the music scene has changed for the worse. f Mazzy Star was releasing this today, you & I would be buying her albums/seeing her live. But they would never have their singles played....

  • @1con0clast ...And then how many MILLIONS would never have gotten to hear this beautiful music? That is what is sad.

  • @markd325 The corporate machine has never promoted music that doesn't sell because it's raison d'etre is to make money, not art. Look at this clip, it's an off air recording from the '90s, possibly from around 3 am. This sort of stuff has never been promoted, EVER. The music you crave is out there, you're just not looking for it hard enough.

  • @madmic1967 Holy shit. Has everybody just suddenly become illiterate?! Everything you just said I have acknowledged, & explained like three goddamn times now, in just as many days. And even if you only read just the comment above, I'm not talking about me. I know there's great music out there, as I concluded by saying there's always college radio to play indie & unsigned bands.

  • @markd325 Oooo!!! Who rattled your cage, potty mouth? Handbags at dawn or what? You should learn to calm down, what with your american diet of deep fried butter and sitting around in-front of the internet all day, you're an ideal candidate for a TIA . You're quite right though, everyone has suddenly become illiterate but magically retained the ability to leave comments on Youtube. Anyway, what college do you attend; Barber or clown?

  • @CSuTuber no need to bash others for being different than you. do you want everyone to be exactly the same? maybe we should all wear uniforms too. rainbows are beautiful. btw, I am pretty confident that the majority of JS fans are kids.

  • man i miss , her sweet sweet voice to my soul ! if she's gay I don't care ! The girl Tell's it how it is ....I seen hope 1 time in France .... As I was a captain of the french forligion
