@xCayk yeah, I looked on CandyRat site, and no tab.
I'm dumb when it comes to chords (and alto clef, haha) but If you could chart out the chords in // style in a comment/reply (if you know what I mean), then I could notate a tef/tab file of the mando notes with the chords and email it to you...
People support these artists - even if you're not rich, a lot of these songs you can buy for a buck online. Tommy, Antoine Dufour, Don Ross - Canadians don't get nearly the same exposure as Andy Mckee for example, and I personally think they should be rewarded for their dedication.
@Lusoloonie funny story! did you know that lettuce has 96 chromosomes while humans have 23? odd right>? i mean why should a lettuce have more chromosomes than us? it just sits there.....0_0 . you are now enlightened
@FrozenGoods101 What most musicians do (and what I do) is record pieces like this initially to a metronome or drum loop and then later cut out the drums/metronome after the instruments are recorded. The task of achieving proper timing can seem very daunting otherwise.
Superman is a hero, Batman is a hero, Spiderman is a hero.....but you sir, you are not a hero, no, you're much more then that.......you sir, are a SUPERAMAZINGHERO!
A bouzouki is an instrument with its origins spanning Greece and Turkey. In both languages the work "bouzuk" means broken, I suspect for its metallic sound. It's known to be one of the earliest known "fretted" instruments; pre-dating the lute. It orginally started with 3 sets of strings using just tambre. It was later modified in the 1800's to the 4 sets and made popular in the 1950's, but using equa-tabre instead.
@jkshoujk A bit of technical info. Both are "double" stringed instruments similar to a 12 stringed guitar; meaning each have four sets of strings. The mandolin is commonly used in bluegrass music and is tuned in fourths like the violin. I don't know much about the bouzouki, but it appears to be tuned in fourths as well judging from his fret positions. With luck, I can get some historical info about both for you. Hopes this helps you out a bit.
Hmmmm.... are they REALLY the same person...??? Tommy, the madolin player, seems to be married, while Tommy, the cittern player... isn't.... curiouser and curiouser....
Do violins and Mandolins have the same scale lengths? It amazes me how easily he can play that mandolin, despite it having frets, which would be quite limiting to a violin player.
@orestis6693 According to Antoine's FAQ the bigger cream one is a bouzouki, and the smaller red&black one is a mandolin. I trust that Antoine got his info from Tommy who bought the instrument. Personally I don't know much about either.
Fantastic! I love this kind of stuff because skilled people like this sometimes work best when the whole composition is in their style. Everything is more "agreed" upon, so to speak.
Very nice. Gives the feelings of older music, or rather the feeling that older music gives. That would sound much smoother with someone else playing one of the instruments. Which i am sure you know already. But still very very nice.
It's called a cistern, it would not be correct to call it a bouzouki... which everyone automatically assumes. Bouzouki has 8 strings, cistern has 10.
Ok, what Tommy is playing is a Irish bouzouki (cittern like) and of course a mandolin. He is definitely not playing a "normal" bouzouki, as that has a longer neck and smaller body. =)
He must have had a lot of projects going on at the same time. He got married between the recording of these two parts....or divorced if you're a pessimist.
@toodance i respectfully disagree. i believe it to be a bouzouki. it seems to big to be a mandola and has 10 strings (5 doubled up pairs) whereas a mandola typically has 8. but i could be wrong
Bouzoukis, like mandolas, have 8 strings. Unless I'm mistaken, Antoine is playing a cittern, which has the same scale length and shape as a bouzouki, but 5 courses of doubled strings rather than 4
@Llyranon Its a bouzouki, he said it at one of his live show wich I attended about a month ago, and this is not antoine dufour its tommy gauthier. Live they usually play guitar and that mandolin but this was a recording with solely Tommy gautier, dont know where you saw antoine.
Typically a modern day cittern will have ten strings with a high course, while an Irish bouzouki with ten strings would generally have a lower course. But it really all depends on the player and maker. There is no real standardization for any of these instruments as they are all relatively new. bouzouki, cittern, octave mandolin, etc are all names often used interchangeably these days, regardless of tuning or scale length.
But personally, I would call this instrument a ten string bouzouki, as it appears to have a low course. On the other hand, it is a shorter string length than my Irish bouzouki, so he may call it a cittern. Like I said, it is all up to the player more than anything else.
@pekas98banjo From some short googling, I believe it to be a Cittern. Search in Google Images: cittern flatland ramblers...2nd picture...hope that helps =)
