  • Amazing piece man!

  • La Bretagne te salue cousin de la belle province!

  • What is the 10-string instrument?

  • @alextbuck7 it's called a bouzouki

  • where the hell are the tabs i can't find them,

  • @xCayk yeah, I looked on CandyRat site, and no tab.

I'm dumb when it comes to chords (and alto clef, haha) but If you could chart out the chords in // style in a comment/reply (if you know what I mean), then I could notate a tef/tab file of the mando notes with the chords and email it to you...

  • @toodance urgh>.< I would.. but the chords are too complex for me to recognize :(

Shame, it should just be on the site like suggested in the description..

  • im upset that i can only like this once

  • Dane Cook? This guy is way better!

  • It is a mandolin n dude is very good on it. U two certainly talented duo . Keep the jams coming I enjoyed the technicality u rock

  • @RMCNWS Dude, it's the one guy playing both instruments...

  • why do i suddenly wanna play monkey island???

  • what do you call that transforming instrument?

  • @13mdark i think its a mandalin.

  • @13mdark I think it's a bazooki

  • Love it!

  • Excellent. Bonus: Qqn qui a déjà joué un peu la guitare peut trouver les notes facilement, tu montres toujours le manche !

  • GGGGOOOOODDDDDD

  • magique !!!!

    5 vidéo c pas suffisant ... I need more and more :)

  • damn sexy! ;)

  • gawd, he's good. I'll never get tired of listening to this....one of my all time faves

  • 6 strings aren't enough for him.

  • unbelievable is all i can say

  • DANE COOK AND BEN STILLER

  • The part 2:43-2:47 was amazing and the harmonic was just mind blowing!!!

  • Nice

  • i can't remember what's this instrument ?=S

  • @yayekdu45 The small one is the mandolin and the larger one is the bouzouki

  • Must be 50 times I've listened to this so far.

People support these artists - even if you're not rich, a lot of these songs you can buy for a buck online. Tommy, Antoine Dufour, Don Ross - Canadians don't get nearly the same exposure as Andy Mckee for example, and I personally think they should be rewarded for their dedication.

  • i like that "pling" sound !

  • Mandolin shredding is the best.

  • @bassman1993 its a celtic instrument called a bozouki very popular in the music of great big sea and other celtic bands

  • very talented, thats for sure.

  • my guess would be an irish bouzouki, certainly sounds like one.

  • my guess would be an irish bouzouki, certailny sounds like one.

  • CANDYRAT stood for the most skilled and unique musicians.

Gauthier, Dufour, McKee, Dan Ross are just a few.

It must be an honor to sign up to such an "elite-of-creators-label"

So lets buy some CD´s to keep them alive :)

  • @bassman1993 i think its a cittern. citterns have 10 strings. mandola is to a mandolin as a viola is to a violin so they both have 8 strings.

  • Is the larger one a Mandola?

  • playing the violin as he does, shredding that mandoline must be nothing for him

  • wow... its sounds really magical... something to connect to.

    thumbs up(period)

  • Any tabs out there for this song? Sounds like a fantastic learn!

  • WTH are those instruments called? they look and sound awsome :P

  • @Gingerlord01 Im pretty sure they're mandolins.

  • @SkateForJesus95 :D thnks

  • 9 people have as much musical appreciation as a lettuce ...

  • @Lusoloonie funny story! did you know that lettuce has 96 chromosomes while humans have 23? odd right>? i mean why should a lettuce have more chromosomes than us? it just sits there.....0_0 . you are now enlightened

  • @hip142 Your knowlegde on Lettuce has enlightened me. lol

  • @Lusoloonie,

Not true, even lettuce wouldn't hit the dislike button. ;-)

  • The Sound of Monkey Island ^^ :-P

  • @HolloWooDstudios yaaaaaaaay thats what i thought :D

  • Tommy, tu es le meilleur.

  • Beautiful ! 5/5

  • 9 black eyed peas fans disliked this !!!

  • in the first cam plan we can see headset in his ear ... i'll bet this track is the first ;)

  • Never seen such guitars. But I love how they sound.

  • @akapype One's an irish cittern, the other is a mandolin :P

  • hahaha sick instruments! <3

  • MANDOLIN TIME!!

  • this makes me want to take a journey o.0

  • I wonder.....which track did he record first? lol

  • @FrozenGoods101 probably the mandolin second since he's got the earpiece in his right ear

  • @FrozenGoods101 What most musicians do (and what I do) is record pieces like this initially to a metronome or drum loop and then later cut out the drums/metronome after the instruments are recorded. The task of achieving proper timing can seem very daunting otherwise.

  • i whish i was that micro ... f***** awesome

  • DANE COOK!

  • amazing

  • Superman is a hero, Batman is a hero, Spiderman is a hero.....but you sir, you are not a hero, no, you're much more then that.......you sir, are a SUPERAMAZINGHERO!

  • I think im in love <3

  • damn what a beast... tommy and antoine need to rock a us tour. i would so quit my job and see every show

  • nice instument

  • wow Dane Cook can really play

  • @V46RTheDoctor hahaha seriously!!

  • Tommy is ther any way to get the notes or tab's for this melodi? like it alot

  • What a beautiful piece of music.

  • fuck!!! THAT WAS GOOD!!

  • i didn't know stonebridge had anything other than guitars. Those are beautiful instruments

  • lol this guy is resisting the guitar at all costs

    amazing player!

  • wery nice one Tommy, what mandolin are you playing on?

  • @tyflonaim I believe he's playing on a "Stonebridge" mandolin. Pretty high-end stuff.

  • Its silar

  • Great

  • Stronhold 3 soundtrack by tommy gauthier

  • King of the String.

  • i wonder what scale(s) that is (are)

  • String Hero! -Tommy Gauthier Ver-

  • っかこいい!!素晴らしい!!

  • A bouzouki is an instrument with its origins spanning Greece and Turkey. In both languages the work "bouzuk" means broken, I suspect for its metallic sound. It's known to be one of the earliest known "fretted" instruments; pre-dating the lute. It orginally started with 3 sets of strings using just tambre. It was later modified in the 1800's to the 4 sets and made popular in the 1950's, but using equa-tabre instead.

  • @jkshoujk A bit of technical info. Both are "double" stringed instruments similar to a 12 stringed guitar; meaning each have four sets of strings. The mandolin is commonly used in bluegrass music and is tuned in fourths like the violin. I don't know much about the bouzouki, but it appears to be tuned in fourths as well judging from his fret positions. With luck, I can get some historical info about both for you. Hopes this helps you out a bit.

  • WoumiTheCat the big one is not a bouzouki :P i am from greece so ... i think its called mandola

  • Amazing.

  • this song is an awesome drug...

  • Comment removed

  • Do violins and Mandolins have the same scale lengths? It amazes me how easily he can play that mandolin, despite it having frets, which would be quite limiting to a violin player.

  • The instruments are Bouzouki and Mandolin (the small one)

    Very good job :')

  • @WoumiTheCat thats not a bouzouki !!!!

  • @orestis6693 According to Antoine's FAQ the bigger cream one is a bouzouki, and the smaller red&black one is a mandolin. I trust that Antoine got his info from Tommy who bought the instrument. Personally I don't know much about either.

  • can someone tell me what the 8 string instrument is ? the small one plz :) sounds relle nice

  • speechless

  • what an absolutly beautiful song. I wish I could play that good.

  • what are those instruments?

  • Mandolin and a cistern

  • @1bagger35 thank you :)

  • Fantastic! I love this kind of stuff because skilled people like this sometimes work best when the whole composition is in their style. Everything is more "agreed" upon, so to speak.

  • nahh he looks like ben stiller lol as a court bard lol

  • well i can say that metal is type of music and i hate all the others but this is fantastic :D

  • This song is the best from the CD

  • Very nice. Gives the feelings of older music, or rather the feeling that older music gives. That would sound much smoother with someone else playing one of the instruments. Which i am sure you know already. But still very very nice.

  • Since when is Dane Cook musically gifted..?

  • @sillygooseEGG HAHA! I noticed that too!

  • HOW does this only have 47 000 views on rpoland? It's a joke. It's fucking awesome.

  • The first guitar is mandelin ?

  • amazing

  • Hey nice video, the true is you can buy USA iTunes gift cards at this store iTunesgiftScards at COM

  • That was divine

  • wow oh crap theres my jaw it just fell off of my mouth

  • SOMBODY PLEASE TELL ME what that 10 stringed guitar lookin thing is called??

    thanks.

and i wish i could play that on the mandolin.

    great video

  • @melodymuse1 Irish bouzouki

  • @melodymuse1 he is playing a modern style cittern

  • It's called a cistern, it would not be correct to call it a bouzouki... which everyone automatically assumes. Bouzouki has 8 strings, cistern has 10.

  • @1bagger35 cittern, a cistern is part of a toilet

  • @alex84950

haha, thanks for correcting me... WHOOPS!! That is what I meant to say...

  • Wow. Very nice stuff, guys.

  • Ok, what Tommy is playing is a Irish bouzouki (cittern like) and of course a mandolin. He is definitely not playing a "normal" bouzouki, as that has a longer neck and smaller body. =)

  • reminds me of mulche's odyssey by umphrey's

  • I play mandolin as well, and you are very inspiring! Would love to see more videos of you! Great job, ***** five stars. *****

  • He must have had a lot of projects going on at the same time. He got married between the recording of these two parts....or divorced if you're a pessimist.

  • There are parts i really love of this song, and others not so much. Thumbs up overall though

  • cara toca muito

  • i suck!!

  • The bigger Instrument is called a Cithern. Nothing of a Bouzouki here ;)

  • When you're balding, you could be Jason Statham :D

By the way: nice playin' :)

  • LET'S GO ON AN ADVENTURE!

  • he looks like a mix between jack johnson and dane cook lol

  • @MrJakefuzi1117 A little bit of ben affleck in there too :P

  • @cpahitman1 haha for sure!!

  • it has 8 strings actually count the machine heads lol

  • i think this guy was a pirate in his previous life XD

  • awesomeness!!

  • These guys would make amazing efforts playing melodic metal.

  • i didn't know dane cook could play such beautiful music

  • My guess is the larger instrument is a bouzouki. I don't remember what, if any, difference there is between it and a mandola.

  • what instruments is he playing¨?

  • @pekas98banjo the darker colored and smaller one is a mandolin, but idk what the bigger one is. I think it's a bouzouki but I could be wrong.

  • @pekas98banjo hiya. I think the bigger instument ma be a mandola (tuned like a viola, low to high C G D A)

    : )

  • @toodance i respectfully disagree. i believe it to be a bouzouki. it seems to big to be a mandola and has 10 strings (5 doubled up pairs) whereas a mandola typically has 8. but i could be wrong

  • @Themanwe

Bouzoukis, like mandolas, have 8 strings. Unless I'm mistaken, Antoine is playing a cittern, which has the same scale length and shape as a bouzouki, but 5 courses of doubled strings rather than 4

  • @Llyranon Its a bouzouki, he said it at one of his live show wich I attended about a month ago, and this is not antoine dufour its tommy gauthier. Live they usually play guitar and that mandolin but this was a recording with solely Tommy gautier, dont know where you saw antoine.

  • Typically a modern day cittern will have ten strings with a high course, while an Irish bouzouki with ten strings would generally have a lower course. But it really all depends on the player and maker. There is no real standardization for any of these instruments as they are all relatively new. bouzouki, cittern, octave mandolin, etc are all names often used interchangeably these days, regardless of tuning or scale length.

  • But personally, I would call this instrument a ten string bouzouki, as it appears to have a low course. On the other hand, it is a shorter string length than my Irish bouzouki, so he may call it a cittern. Like I said, it is all up to the player more than anything else.

  • @pekas98banjo From some short googling, I believe it to be a Cittern. Search in Google Images: cittern flatland ramblers...2nd picture...hope that helps =)

  • love it!

  • Wow this is Awesome!!

  • WOW again. You are amazing.

  • Normally i like 80's - 90's rock like awesome songs by van halen but these guys are more calm soft mellow now i kinda one listen to more music like this i like it

  • wow the part that starts at 1:45.. amazing.. - the whole song is amazing

  • requesting mando (violin) notation

    please please prettiest please...

    i LOVE this

  • Wow!!! Where were you two in the sixties??

You sound like an entire orchestra. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you.

  • You two? They're the same person!

  • No, no, no, his friend and fellow musician Antoine Dufour. Look on YouTube for "Tommy Gauthier & Antoine Dufour".

  • @Rael0505 ah.... no. in this video, he plays both parts but the two are different people. see "four hands guitar". should be in related videos.

  • @Rael0505 lol Well both of him kick a**! Thats for sure.

  • to cool, damn nice!

  • Lol.... awesome... renaissancy like ogen said.... but not at all!! Awesome chord progressions....you modulate from one key to the next... but the same themes are developed througout... then around 2 min you have a jazzy improvisation over the harmonies.... very original.. a true fusion of many different genres of music. Love it!

  • Incredible! Thank you for sharing your music with us, Tommy.

  • tommy tes tellement une bete! :P

  • OMG it is beautiful!

    to my favorites! )

    100 points to you!

  • Brings back the style of the Renaissance times in some way. Very Beautiful :)

  • i love that Renaissance sound!

  • @ OgenX88

I really agree, reminds me of the Renaissance!

You can just picture bards walking arround while listening too this aswell

  • Love this song. I currently play acoustic guitar and have been thinking about venturing into playing mandolin and other stringed instruments of the sort: This only helped me want to learn to play more.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. This is currently my favorite song right next to Spiritual Groove by him and Antoine Dufour...

  • actually nevermind i found out that ya hes playing the mandolin and the other ones an octave mandolin
