Clearly, Doctrine is not his "major suit".

And, while compassion is necessary, it is not sufficient.

Doctrinal Truth is necessary:

No argument with Jesus Christ at all.

Who taught the Doctrine of "resurrection" as a Doctrine of 'Rebirth'.

And it is the denial of this *specific* Doctrinal Truth which is the origin of violence between Jews, Christians and Muslims.

It is *unwise* to ignore Doctrinal Truth in pursuit of compassion 'alone*.

Atheists should take note here. It troubles me when I see intelligent people who have decided they are atheist, take up an aggressive opposition to religion in an almost religious manner. They see the horrible things done in the name of religion by fanatics and this is their view of religion and they do not know what spirituality is. I would love to see more acceptance in this world but it can't happen when we keep creating new ways to distrust each other.

Where I grew up there were all religions in our neighborhood. About 10 of us moms were so happy when summer came! We lived in row housing and would gather together with our babies (and lawn chairs), sit in a circle outdoors every morning for an hour or two to sip coffee, let the children play together and share toys, stories, ideas.

Thankyou. I try to look for examples in my own life. Different approach as you speak of. Even as a mother, when a baby cries, is not always because of hunger - maybe baby is too cold, or wanting to be rocked. I love the baby and need different approaches. Philosophy: I wonder, maybe differ so that we can share/offer with each other? Stories from all help me to grow. For example, a friend's story helped me overcome fear of thunderstorms (hadn't heard the story before).

Matt 23:13-33 is 1 example of how Jesus hated religion. He came so we didn't need religion; but a relationship. God gave us the law (Commandments) through Moses but no one was able to keep it until Christ came and fulfilled it by living a sinless life. The "old" was The Law but He fulfilled prophecy by bringing the New Covenant spoken of by the Prophets. @dual10 It's like the theory of Nietzsche - "Dionysian vs. Apollonian". A very interesting idea. And just to add, Nietzsche was actually a believing man himself, in spite of his naturistic theories. Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I think he believed humans created a vision of a "afterlife nirvana" not only because of the blind suffering being all too much to handle, but also because he thought this vision became a rule because it is achieveable in a way. It's worth a look into for sure

Jesus HATED religion! Religion separates a person from the living God. The dalai lama makes it about self. Christianity teaches to die to self, to be 3rd...to make God 1st, others 2nd and self 3rd. God created us perfect, in His image but we sinned in the garden. To reconcile us back to Him, He became His own creation, took the sins of the world to the cross, died & resurrected. Whoever believes in Him will have everlasting life. It's appointed for man to die once and then comes judgment..

Nietzsche more than a hundred years ago. The similarities between Christianity and Buddhism, and to a much lesser extent, Islam. We needn't look to a deeper truth other than human psychology and as the Lama says himself, differences between peoples. What is underlying is the ascetic ideal, a will to nothingness, this is what monks are. All these morals he expouses are morals of exhaustion and peace. They stem from nature, from physiology, and are 'spiritualized' through conciousness.

This clip doesn't get much viewing it. I suppose it makes too much sense. Hard to mock someone who doesn't say "my faith can beat up your faith". I respect others will base their faith on other philosophies. I also agree that just because there are contradictions present in each philosophy doesn't mean you toss out everyone's faith and practices. It's not like other things in this age... their is no 'faith, ur doin it rong'... the only way to do faith wrong is to reject everything.
