incredible beautiful. Where does this video come from? is it part of a documentary about wyatt? is it possible to get the whole recording of this concert? thanks for any hints!
@hoowster i don't think this is supposed to mean anything really. like romantic love. it is full of nonsense and ridiculous words that mean absolutely nothing. but it is beautiful for a time. and yes. i will be a bitter old maid....
Side two starts with a medley of sorts ("Alifib/Alife"), with Wyatt first singing and then reciting in a disjointed manner lyrics apparently dedicated to Alfreda Benge*, who herself replies with her own vocal retort at the end of "Alifib".
Even more amazing is that his nose was itching during most of the song but he refrained from ceding to the itch and managed to play the song right with glass shattering emotion.
@Bluesblaster Lyrics to Alifib : Not nit not nit no not Nit nit folly bololey Alifi my larder Alifi my larder I can't forsake you or Forsqueak you Alifi my larder Alifi my larder Confiscate or make you Late you you Alifi my larder Alifi my larder Not nit not nit no not Nit nit folly bololy Burlybunch, the water mole Hellyplop and fingerhole Not a wossit bundy, see ? For jangle and bojangle Trip trip Pip pippy pippy pip pip landerim Alifi my larder Alifi my larder
@hoowster Thanks for the lyrics. However, I can't really figure out what it's all about, but I agree with furcatherine: this makes me cry because it is simply beautiful.
@siroen That's "Fernando" by the way, but you nailed a stunning free-form haiku. Great Zen sense that I didn't know he had. I've translated a few of his from the Portuguese like "Poema Na Linha Reta" and it's a straight line to his suffering heart. Too far ahead of his time.
he bares himself completely. an innocent lost in the darkest of woods. in listening to him, we feel cradled and consoled amid the bleakest desolation. sublime.
dio santo. puro disperato genio. dare voce alla disperazione più totale, che non potrebbe essere mai detta a parole, attraverso un testo assurdo e surreale dalle sonorità a momenti ridicole. fkin goOd. pure desperate genius. to give voice to a total despare, which could never be said by words, thrugh a text absurd with sounds sometime ridicule, that right cous of this get more desperate again.
I will never understand how Robert Wyatt has stayed mostly under the radar. His music has such a strange beauty. The first time I heard Rock Bottom I knew I had stumbled onto something very important.
@FlyingJunk "Popular," certainly not. Did any of his songs make it to radio play even in the 70s and 80s? Just the fact that most of his stuff has only this year been re-released on vinyl tells me something. (Thanks, Domino!)
@laulutube Thank you for your thoughtful question. But I must take exception to your calling U2 so-so musicians. They are the single worst thing that ever happened to rock music (and ever will). It's impossible to imagine a band less talented than U2. But they have millions of fans, because most people have shit for brains. Cheers!

Robert in a wheelchair, singing one of the most emotional songs ever written ...If you don't have a tear or 2 running down a cheek...U are made of stone...
@ psirou I tried this voicing on piano but I think it should work on every polyphonic instrument. You may need to adjust the substitutions to make it sound like you want but I think, If you keep the basses... I'm not musician anymore so my opinion is perhaps not the best. Sincerely.
This ain't no music, I mean it's more like a canal through which any kind of medium could have reached us all, the way it actually does in this form. It's pure soul
No words to express the emotions. I was fifteen when I listen to Rock Bottom for the first time. I still consider this record one of the best expression of humans
@nick40nick40 Thank you! I am 51 years old and during my life I always looked for beatuy. I was lucky, becayuse I found so much beauty in art, music, nature and in the heart of people. Rock bottom was the beginning of this travel. Before R.B. there was nothing of important; after, there were John Coltrane, Steve Reich, Charles Mingus, Dulce Pontes...
The whole album Rock Bottom is fantastic! When it came out I did hear only this record for nearly one Year. And when I hear it now I'm really impressed after all the years!
And you know, what in Russia this composition became an audiotrack to a film on which judges have left from viewing on one of the European film festivals?
Thanks, you were very sweet, thanks again

@wildherne Thank you... special for you a poem from Frendano Pessoa:
To be great, be whole; exclude
Nothing, exaggerate nothing that is you.
Be whole in everything. Put all you are
Into the smallest thing you do.
The whole moon gleams in every pool,
It rides so high.
