i wish i could just come to your house for a few hours , sit in that room with the band, eat some pizza and drink some ice cold soda, and close my eyes and really and truly, spiritually drift back like a time machine to 1986
This was an incredible documentary for fans of the Rock-afire Explosion and Showbiz Pizza, and it really shows you how devoted to the legacy of the characters people are -- from the creator of the show to their biggest fan and many others. I highly recommend it, and it's available for streaming on Netflix!
I have nothing but fond memories of visiting Showbiz Pizza as a kid, if for no other reason than playing so many classic arcade games under the same roof! Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Ms. Pac Man, Centipede, Star Wars, Pole Position, you name it, you could play it there for a token or two. :)
It's so sweetly surreal seeing these guys in action again, too. I remember the gorilla always creeped me out for some reason.
I can remember going to Showbiz once as a kid and having a good time in the arcade there... but wow... some people really care a lot more about this than any well-adjusted, adult human being should.
@JDubbsTheatre back in 93', i was 13 years old and Showbiz had officially turned all power over to chuck e cheese's, and I went to my cousins birthday party when he turned 3. They had a new band, none of the original characters were there, and they also sucked. One good thing about Rockafire was they played alot of POP music, like stuff you'd see on MTV and on the radio and so on. Chuck E cheese's band only played pre-school songs.
Showbiz was the one that had bought out Chuck E Cheese previously actually. It was when the inventor who owned the rights to The Rock-afire Explosion refused to sell them the rights that Showbiz officially rebranded as Chuck E Cheese and changed the band.
there is a working set in Barboursville WV they arent in great condition but im alot younger then most of the people on the video and still have found memories of Billy Bob and the gang because of it.
*GASP!* My childhood just poured through my eyes!! God I MISS Showbiz Pizza!! I had every single childhood birthday at Showbiz/Chuck E Cheese... Rock-afire both amused and terrified me and I loved it! I was pissed the day I went in and the band was gone... it was just boring after that:( And judging from my channel it may have affected me as well:D
Definitely want to see this because I used to work at Chuck E Cheese's. I started looking up info CEC/Showbiz when I saw a few Showbiz tokens in one of the games I had to fix.
I remember when both were in business. Chuck E Cheese was a separate franchise at point, with a really lame stage show. All I can remember is plastic frogs going up and down on hydraulics, or something like that.
Showbiz Pizza blew it away from a stage show perspective, the animatronics were leaps and bouns better... and still are, almost 30 years later!
I grew up a block away from one of the first 10 chuck e cheeses in southern CA. in the late 70's and early 80's and when i would go to ohio in the summer they had showbiz. Chuck e cheese was only second to disneyland for what was maximum fun for me. The new chuck e chees's now suck.
Wow do I ever miss showbiz pizza!! I remember being able to go to Showbiz in Longview Tx, and sometimes my parents would drive to Shreveport LA and there would be a Chuck E Cheese we would go too.....NOT THE SAME!! I <3 Showbiz, now the show is all 1 character, my daughter will never get to see WHOLE band on stage cause they have just that stupid Chuck E. singing and dancing to every song BY HIMSELF! They are making money hand over fist ya think they could put more characters in there!!
Like many of these posters, I went to Showbiz as a kid growing up in Austin. But on top of the nostalgia, this is the kind of documentary that is so much fun--from people who make them out of sheer love. King of Kong is another example. Thank you for making these!
I remember when i was little, I wrote a letter of complaint to Chuck E Cheese, complaining, telling them I didn't like Chuck E Cheese and that I wanted Billy Bob back, haha I was like 8 at the time. I got a letter of apology back saying that Billy Bob went out West to retire, still got that letter somewhere haha.
I wanna get the DVD... I miss Showbiz too.. The CEC could be better if they have the right people who care about it.. I went there for my birthday on May 1st and there was a man working on the puppet theater and he worked his ass off getting everything to work.. That made me feel good that someone really cared about the puppets running the right way..
I remember going to showbiz alot as a kid. When chuck E cheese bought it out I went there for my cousins birthday back in 93 and it was not the same stuff I grew up with and I was pissed.
What's messed up is that it was the company that owned Showbiz that bought out Chuck E. Cheese.
CEC was going under, Showbiz bought it out. But Showbiz didn't actually own the Rock-afire Explosion band. A company called Creative Engineering owned the band and created the animatronics. But after the merger, they DID own the CEC characters.
Wanting to save money, they broke things off with Creative and turned everything to CEC. It sucks.
This is amazing! This is amazing! There is purpose in my life! There are also Porpoises in my life, but they will never be as cool as Rock-afire Explosion. This is amazing! Hu-tah!
Back stage showbiz and chuck E's have a very distinctive smell that I miss, but most would find disturbing. A cross between machine grease and stale vomit.
Showbiz was an integral part of any kid's life growing up in the eighties. You were not cool unless you had your mom drive you and 10 friends to Showbiz. So awesome. I must see this film as soon as possible.
Wow, major nostalgia. Scary robots lip synching cheesy music while you munch on pizza and sip coke in the dark, waiting for your chance to waste a bunch of change on video games...
Sounds crazy, but it was a load of fun when you were a kid in the 80's! It was just annoying trying to get anything worthwhile with all those tickets (spider-ring or glow in the dark bug is all I ever had the patience for).
You know, I've never really cared for places like this but this trailer... is done very well. The attention to shapes, colors, spacing, movement, dialogue, music and pacing is something you don't see often with movies and shows nowadays. I hope this film does well.
i love u and i was just wonderin... will u add me as a friend?? cuz i love u with with all my heart and soul i will love you forever no matter what u say... baby
the room with the robots are fucking terrifying. It reminds me of some sort of sci-fi movie where they view a laboratory with half machine/half animal things...god damn..
