Senna didn't have to beat all those guys, but only Prost, since whenever he won, there was only one driver in a competitive car who could fight against him.

Senna won a championship scoring less points than Prost, one throwing Prost out of the race on purpose (by Senna's admission).

When Lauda and Piquet had a competitive car, Senna regularly lost against them, that's all there is to it.

I agree with Playtechy: it's not a matter of how many titles you own, but what you do with your car that defines who you are as a pilot.

I miss not only Senna but the whole Senna era in F1. I used to watch all the F1 races in that time. Nowadays I just don't stand it 'coz it's all boring: after the first curve of the first lap you already know who's gonna win. Nowadays you rarely see creative and audacious pilots doin' unexpected maneuvers and all that stuff. It's so boring... :(

Records are not all the important, because not all drivers will be given the same opportunity to take them. Its what you do with the car you have that makes a great driver. Senna in the Lotus was Poleing ahead of the McLarens all the time in 87' while his teammate was struggling for top 10's.

Records are not important really; because not all drivers are going to get the same opportunity to break records. Its what you do with the car you have. And Senna done that the best. In Senna's era I know atleast 4 drivers that could have done the same given the same opportunity.

não sei pq essa mania de dizer que um deles foi o melhor e o outro um merda. acho que os dois foram grandes pilotos, em uma grande época da F1. eu queria era ver esses caras correndo juntos de novo, como Senna, Piquet, Mansell e Prost. aí botava o Schumacher no meio deles pra ver se ia ganhar alguma coisa huehue.

Lets look at facts. Total win percentage minus break downs: Senna 35% Schumi 31%.

Coupled with the fact Schumi always had the best car, and team orders. No breakdowns for 5 years. Senna was often in a poor car, from 1984-1987 poor car. 1993 poor car, and 1994 good car, but piss poor handling.

Any fan of F1 from the Senna Prost era know Senna was something special.

Senna managed to take the championship in 1988; in one of the best cars yes; But Vs Prost (4 time world champ) who had team priority for that season.

Schumacher's Benneton in 93' had 90BHP more then Senna, and still Senna got more points! in 94' Schumi had 30BHP less, but used Tractin Control, illegal fuel rig and still Senna got pole for 1st 3 races - even with the poor handling.

Have a look at the previous seasons in F1, Senna had always been in a strong position when breaking down. Schumi was a great driver; I wont deny that. But Schumi got his records and WDC's when there was no competition, and he never competed against a quality driver in his team. Which makes Senna so great (Made Prost leave the team and put a veito on Senna).

I am a huge Ferrari fan, but even I know that had Senna still been around, it would've been a 3-way with Schumi, Hill, and Senna. I doubt Schumi would've won as many as he had.

Senna had to beat Lauda, Prost, Piquet and Nigel Mansell (1 WDC) to win championships. Who did Schumacher have to beat? I'd rather have to beat Damon Hill or Mika Hakkinen to win titles than have to beat any of those people Senna competed against. The first guy Schumi ran into that was of his caliber was Alonso, who beat him.
