@EasternMerchant I did two coats of black. There were a couple runs I had to sand out before clear. So I sanded the whole thing down flat remove the runs and the little bit of orange peal with 400 and 600 grit. I then sprayed two medium wet coats of clear. Let that cure. Wet sanded it flat, removing the orange peel, with 600. Then topped it off with an over reduced coat known as a "flow coat", which I sprayed wet. Then I sanded with 1000, 1500, and 2000, and buffed and polished.
how many coats were required? Also, did this require any wet-sanding and buffing?

@EasternMerchant Haha, I know right! It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it. I'm pretty happy with how my first paint job came out.

@cmattdabrat can this same polyurethane clear coat be used on a polyester resin gelcoat surface like boats and surboards?
EasternMerchant 3 months ago
@EasternMerchant I'm not sure. You would have to call and talk to Summit's tech.

This looks really good! I'm putting some kirker gloss black on my car this summer. Difficult color to get right!

@cmattdabrat Have you taken this outside yet? How is it holding up?
joeshmo14760 1 year ago
@joeshmo14760 I sure have. Plenty of times. It's holding up great! Still looks like it did the day I painted it.

Why did you choose to clear coat over the single stage?
joeshmo14760 1 year ago
@joeshmo14760 For a deeper finish and added protection.
