you boys give far far too much credit the Cus and Kevin Rooney for Mike's ring success! No manager, trainer or promoter can make a fighter champion if its not there.
Now not to demean Cus, he role a father figure was most prominent but even if he had been around til Mike was 40yrs old. His presents would have only kept him in check for 4 to 5 additional fights. Look at the history of Heavy weights, and the kind of kid tyson was.
TYSON COULD HAVE BEATEN DOUGLAS. ALL HE NEEDED TO DO WAS TO BRING BACK ROONEY,GET BACK TO THE DEFENSIVE FIRST/OFFENSIVE SECOND COMBINATION PUNCHING AND NULLIFY THE DOUGLAS JAB.tHAT'S THE FORMULA FOR SUCCESS OVER DOUGLAS.
I think tyson deserved a rematch. he won 40 straight and defended the title 9 times before his 23rd birthday,if anyone in history deserved a rematch,it was tyson. This sport is a bunch of shit!!!!
When that fight took place (I was there) the ref gave Buster like 13 seconds. (it's slowed down in this video)
He only gave Tyson like 9 seconds. Plus, Tyson was looking for his mouth piece. he could've gotten up earlier had he not done that. Also... as soon as he got up, the ref put his arms around him (as if to protect him) and stopped the fight.
there is always wat if's in boxing. mike was in shape because he came in only 2 pounds heavier then when he was with rooney. though he was mentally fucked for this fight because cus died, loosing rooney as a fighter, don king and these other fuckers, ribin "the bitchy slut" givens and not taking buster seriously.
but the long count is bulshit!
both got long counts and douglas was ready to go on where mike was off his feet and had no idea where he was.
@Filmer1266 Tyson was 15 lbs heavier 2 weeks earlier,He wasnt in fighting shape, just water weight shape. And rooney said,he was partying up to the fight and got knocked down in sparring by greg page.He was a mess ready to lose.
See, if Tyson fought the current champ tomorrow and won....Tyson fans would say his daughter's memory drove him on to victory. If he lost, they'de say the event made him lack luster, and THATS why he lost. Not because he has punched a million times.noooooooo. LOL
Holyfield would have beat Tyson in their primes. There is no doubt. Holyfield just had his number and had intagibles that Tyson didn't have - toughness in adversity, resillence, a no quit attitude, consistency. All those underlying qualities were in play when they were both in their primes. Tyson fell apart if you stood up to him and weren't afraid of him. When he faced a guy who wasn't afraid of him he fell apart.
tyson was dimensions better level of fighter in terms of focus, determination to WIN and conditioning in 1988.Holy would have major nightmares beating tyson of 1988.Holy had problems with so many subpar fighters that tyson would be victorious had holy faced the 88 version.
Tysons loss to Holyfield is what makes me suspiscious of Tysons true ability against fighters of substance...
Tyson had everything in his favour with Holyfield. Holyfield was sickly (heart issues), many years older than Tyson, much stronger than Holyfield, harder hitter, faster, but Tyson couldnt do anything to the old man...
Tyson should have beaten the old man to a pulp. but he didnt, and couldnt... greatness will always shine through, even in adversity...
The problem with that is, look at Holyfields record years earlier when he was supposed to be in his prime. Guys that Tyson walked through with total ease, Holyfield had trouble with. If Tyson fought Holyfield back then, who knows??
holyfield methodicaly takes apart his opponents. he does not rush, bully and physically suffocate the opponent with power punches.
the two approaches are never going to recieve the same respect. Everyone would rather watch fireworks than a bonfire.
just coz tyson k.o a guy in the 1st round, and holyfield k.o the same guy in the 12th, doesnt mean tyson is better. it jsut means the approach is different.
He wasn't taking apart Larry Holmes, when they fought and it was a very competitve 12 RD decision. Holmes was 43 when they fought. Holmes of his prime likely would have killed Holyfield.. He got beat-down by Bowe twice, who was never a consistant great Heavyweight.. I would have loved to see them fight in Tyson's heyday.. You have to think of the Tyson at his best with Rooney. Not the shell of a fighter that came out of Prison. They are not the same..
Cus' death did affect IMT. He helped IMT stopped being a troublemaker and started giving him focus... 100%. Also Cus helped set up IMT's management that would've helped IMT later in life after boxing.
Exactly right.....Rooney's last match with Mike was Spinx. Mike's peak. That was mike's last technically good fight, and last fight he was in top shape.
mike tyson fucked up true cocane, women and partying he hadnt trained properly since 89.i love tyson, but its true he made his own decisions to bad they where the wrong ones.he was a great champion and was the best of the 80's beatin everyone put in front of him, dissin his oponents is a stupid thing to do and shows people lack knowledge on boxing.all were ranked fighters at least top 20 in world so thet cant be that shit.mikes biggest problem was blowing them away so quickly but he still is great.
what a load of rubbish! all fighters have to overcome diffiulties, tyson is not unique there, great champions need skill, heart, commitment. tyson chose his own path, a man accepts his own responsabilities
you try to be a champ and having a shitload of problems and still being the champ.Tyson was not ready mentally for this fight. What a shame... i would of retired for a little white if i knew my head wasnt in the game.
Tyson fell apart because he got rich & turned 21. He was then able to do all the dumb shit he wanted to do all along. He'd actually been doing plenty dumb shit already. Ask Tony Atlas: Outside of training, Cus was already unwilling &/or unable to control the financially dependant, teenage Tyson. Cus paid off at least one victim of Mike's bad behavior, & Atlas held a gun to Mike's head over an incident w/ a female relative of Atlas's. Mikey was bad news from the start.
Don't blame Tyson? A boxer has no one but himself to blame for losing in the ring - he didn't train, he didn't take his openent seriously, and he went in and tried to slug it out without minding his defense! Deadly!

Man, I hate this program. It's just designed for its title, which us played out as a joke. A joke that one shouldn't take the blame claim seriously, but then it goes ahead and tries to be serious about it anyway.
In this case for example, Mike was responsible for the people in his corner, period. Yay, modern TV.
Really? When you have some1 as controlling as don king as your promoter. You no longer of free choice....He kenw how to manipulate and persuade people to do what he wanted. He was a ex-convict and was a hustla.Common sense this guy is a scumbag.

People make too many excuses for Tyson . Tyson didnt go downhill after D'amato died .
He won the championship and continued to dominate from 86-88 . He abandoned his style when he fired Rooney .
