Alice In Chains is GRUNGE. They are the makers of Grunge. It's still considered 'HardRock' also.. But when you hear the word Grunge" ..AIC pops right up.
They influenced STP, and Nirvana along the way. You can hear it.

Alice In Chains is the led zeppelin of the 90s in my opinion. the only other band that gets close to that title is probably Soundgarden . as far as great American bands from the 90s go Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots are the equivalent to early 70s bands Credence Clearwater Revival, The Doors and maybe Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers.

@jilg74 Exactly. William is a great guitar player and singer, something Jerry noticed from the very beginning. With that in mind, it's obvious to see why William was Jerry's number one choice to be in AiC. He's a hell of an asset. William's lead vocals on "Last of My Kind", "A Looking in View", "Acid Bubble" and "Private Hell" are superb. His guitar work is great too, so Jerry does not have to play the majority of guitar on recordings anymore.
I love Alice in Chains. However, I wouldn't have opposed a name change. They are still great but it is not just the same without Layne. I hope they keep rocking out.

Losing Layne was a big hit but Jerry has always been the heart and soul of the band. It's good to see AiC moving forward though it's still hard for me to get used to DuVall. This song kicks my ass by the way.

I saw Alice in Chains with Velvet Revolver a couple years ago. It was the arguably the *best* concert I've ever seen. I've seen Alice with Layne as well , and frankly he was so fucked up he could barely stand up, let lone sing. But I really liked the performance with William. And VR kicked ass. Scott was all over the stage and they played STP , GNR , everything. What a show.
Its funny, back in the day Layne had the dynamic, raspy voice and Jerry did clean background vocals. Now, after several years of smoking, Jerry has the raspy vocals while Will has a dynamic clean voice. Amazing how well things work out.
Jerry is still kicking it out man he is amazing and is still alive i though i could never get over Layne well and probabl;y still cant but AIC is still around and Jerry is still alive!
Great band and great performance! I just watched this and the live version of Your Decision from the Jimmy Kimmel show and I'm surprised how good they are. Jerry can definitly sing lead vocals and front a band and even without Layne - one of the greatest singers ever - this band blows away most other bands!

Looks mean nothing, but I will say this: Jerry looks like he's aged significantly due to OBVIOUS circumstances. Losing your frontman who also happens to be your best friend would take a major emotional/stressful toll on anyone.
I mean seriously, who gives a shit? He looks way younger than ACDC's Brian Johnson (who's 62 years old) and no one gives him shit. Anyone who judges MUSIC based on how the creator of the music LOOKS is a complete fucking imbecile that I honestly feel sorry for.

I saw Alice in Chains with Velvet Revolver a couple years ago. It was the arguably the *best* concert I've ever seen. I've seen Alice with Layne as well , and frankly he was so fucked up he could barely stand up, let lone sing. But I really liked the performance with William. And VR kicked ass. Scott was all over the stage and they played STP , GNR , everything. What a show.

Its funny, back in the day Layne had the dynamic, raspy voice and Jerry did clean background vocals. Now, after several years of smoking, Jerry has the raspy vocals while Will has a dynamic clean voice. Amazing how well things work out.

Great band and great performance! I just watched this and the live version of Your Decision from the Jimmy Kimmel show and I'm surprised how good they are. Jerry can definitly sing lead vocals and front a band and even without Layne - one of the greatest singers ever - this band blows away most other bands!
