  • I very much doubt Butch Hammond taught him his grip. He learnt how to grip a golf club when he was a child

  • that Toski goes on a bit doesnt he? gobbledegook!

  • I can see why he had those multiple knee surgeries, he puts so much pressure and twist on it during the follow through

  • this was the most dominating era in golf , his swing was so fast and always in balance

  • that first drive was the most beautiful drive i have ever seen

  • Most of you may already know this, but the reason why tiger switched his swing is not only because he wanted to be better as he stated in one of his interviews, but also because now that he is older, his body isn't capable of using the same swing he use to. (especially because of his knee surgery too).

  • @dpxz00m many other players used 2 irons also and hit it 260, a 2 iron is just like a 3 wood almost same amount of loft, but a 3 wood is ten yards longer or five somethimes, but yeah ive seen tiger hit his 2 irons 290 yds, that's impressive

  • BOB...kudos for your many tips/inspirations!!! ARNIE has inspired his many Seniors in PROSTATE awareness;perhaps you can inspire your BOOMER friends in Vision awareness...AMD(macular degeneration). AMD has now surpassed Prostate cancer in statistics(Novartis.com). A silent anomaly, AMD needs your HELP Bob in awareness!!

    Good golfing Bob 2011

  • Bob Toski is awesome. He is friends with my golfing partner...they played together years ago. I have never met him, but he is a great teacher who really understands the elements of a golf swing.

  • my favorite tiger swing but this guy talking about his swing an idiot

  • tigers problem is one that many a slicer has fought...in these swings his weight shift is beautiful...currently i see him spinning out more in an effort i guess to keep up with the younger crop out there or maintaining his distance edge

  • This is crap! just grip it and rip it!

  • @UNCGolfer2009 yeah tiger back then was way above average on his distance but your right when tiger wanted to get strategic off the tee he wood take his 3 wood and play his low 3 wood shot to get it safe and a good spot for his irons

  • I don't think he was all that much more accurate with the old swing, the courses were just shorter, and he didn't need it. He's just hitting his driver more often. I remember watching him in the 2000 PGA, he didn't hit as many drivers as he does now, and he also would hit three wood off the tee on the 18th all four days.

  • @UNCGolfer2009 well thats because he doesn't hit the ball as far

  • i had a lesson with toski...hes the most annoying teacher i have ever had

  • @touchdown357 haha , how much did the lesson cost ?

  • @sandersuperfollador I don't remember. I think it was like 130 or like 180 / hour.

  • Comment removed

  • @sandersuperfollador He actually gave me an hour and a half for the hour I paid for. I think he is generally a good teacher, but he just didn't work for me. I now work with martin hall out of palm beach.

  • he's to me almost a freak..haha mint

  • Tiger shapes shots so much better with his new swing, but he was such a better driver with his old swing.

  • @dbs0212 right on the money dude and he was a good amount longer too with his old swing

  • # 14 at pebble he had 95 yds on fri and hit into the bunker, also hit it into the water on # 18. Still lead the tournament after 36 holes by 9. Carl Welty

  • Comment removed

  • tigers 97 and 2000 swing were so powerful, hits 2 iron 260 into par 5s where others use 3 wood

  • yeah but he had to sink the putt ;)

  • ya like when he hit a long iron into 14 at pebble in 2000 i think on the 3rd round, just wow!!

  • his 2000 swing is better than his newer flatter swing back when he was winning majors by 10 to 15 shots now hes still winning majors but not by much

  • ok. so he won the us open by 15. and british by 8. thats it. his 2000 swing won the 2001 masters not my much. again 2002 and also the us open by not that much. tigers new swing is jsut as good if not better. tiger plans for the future. his body wont be able to handle the 97 swing and 2000 swing in the long run. and tiger is doing jsut fine with his newer flatter swing. he won 7 majors with his 2000 swing. and so far 6 with this one. not bad. tiger can win with ANY swing

  • yeah ur wright in a way but look at his ball strikeing stats on the pga tour way better around 2000. one year he was no1 on driving accuracy green in regulation and 2nd or 3rd in driving distance

  • cant argue with you on that one... yeah in 2000 he did have those stats. youre right.

but its the wins that count. im sure if and when he surpasses the 18 major mark no one will talk about which swing was more powerful or better. what matters is hell go down in history as the greatest golfer to play the game. lets hope that happens!!

  • yes yes yes

but also factor in that courses now are much longer, competition is much stiffer, and there are a lot more young guns just strictly out to get tiger

back in those days, he used 2 irons, now he's switched to a five wood, which he can shape more of his shots with

his ball striking i think is better, mostly because he can shape more of his shots, if you watch some of the stuff he does now in his tournaments, he just controls it in a fashion very few other players do

  • i agree.

  • he's to me almost a freak? :D

  • ouh they said in video 130mph.

  • hes' swing used to be frikin fast!! does anyone know what have been Tigers fastest average club speed? 130-140mh?

  • 4:56 - I miss that part of Tiger's swing...

  • This video is about Tigers golf swing nothing more. Remember judge not and ye shall not be

judged. To all you people that hate everything and

everybody, try getting a life, and if that doesn't

    work ,go and Fuck yourselves.

  • Although Tiger won major championships with this swing, I feel he really improved a lot. In this swing, the takeaway is much more out like Toski mentioned, and at the top his hands are much higher. I think he had more lifting of the arms before, and now his arms swing around his body more naturally. Great swing back then, even better now IMOP.

  • yep

  • watch 4:41 as some asshole is showing off a huge sign that reads "John 3:16"

Tiger isn't a christian, and a golf course is no place to proselytize.

  • dude shutup

  • no christians need to shut the hell up.

They need to keep their delusions to themselves.

  • Should you really care if it's at a golf course?

You could, you know, just ignore it, like 99% of all other signs at sporting events.

  • racist cunt get a life

  • how am i a racist? Because i said tiger isn't a christian?

news flash idiot. He is NOT a christian. He doesn't even believe in god.

  • ur the idiot hw te fuk cud i be talkin bout tiger . . . news flash? who says tat ya gay .. . . "christians need to shut the hell up" remember tat ya fuckin dope

  • A FREAK!?! SUPER FREAK!

  • Thats the 1st time ive ever seen Tiger fist pump after hitting a shot other than a putt. Looks dorky. Like Jim Furyk or Kenny Perry.

  • he is right that tiger does not hit it straight all the time. and if you watch him play, when he's not on, or in a major, he usually hits a low cut driver or a 3 wood, he doesn't give these all out swings unless he's on. He doesn't hit as many fairways as some precision players, but his iron and fairway wood abilities are incomparable to anyone in history.

  • i kno his new swing is better 4 control and shaping but i like the look of his old swing better

  • i agree his old is natural

  • le vieux ferme ta yeule tbr de fatiguant criss jessaie juste de voir le maudit swing de tig3r mais touer tarrete pas de par;er criss.

    Esti de vieux slack

  • T'as raison 666 !! :)

  • ya check his GIR and you'll see he's either been leading or top five for the decade dumbass

  • greatest dominating athlete in the world

  • Decent vid. I signed up @ golf-swing. co. cc (remove spaces) and it's improved my game. I'm no Tiger... yet!

  • Tiger could give Hogan 3 a side with his "c" game.

  • bob toski rules.

  • Obviously Tiger is the best player to ever play the game, and has a great swing. But Bob Toski doesn't have a clue about teaching, and his terminology is pathetic... "line of play". How about target line... Upper torso... weakest link... come on Bob!

  • bigspagetti: when something happens one or twice like winning the lottery...that's luck...but when you can repeat the same result or close to the same result over and over again...it is called talent! Saying he's lucky makes you look stupid. Stop hating on Tiger. lol

  • tiger woods is the greatest player ever!

  • Tiger has added some of Hogan's traits to his swing now - I told a friend long ago that if he ever did that he will win the slam after it is "grooved" in which it is now. He will meet or past Nicklaus by next year. My favorite is Hogan, but Tiger's new changes are right up there, and actually Hogan would have rather had Snead's swing because his was developed and not natural like Snead's. Tiger has the natural ability of Snead along with the course management of Hogan, and putting of Casper

  • not as gd as hogan

  • Toski said Tiger was "almost a freak" at the end of the video.............LOL! Toski is really a freak for saying that.

  • Yes, and he actually looks a little freaky too. What a totally random and wierd thing to say after such a profound analysis.

  • please give me some tips on my swing, thanks

  • Huh???

  • ur an idot

  • Tiger's head in 2007 is MUCH more still than it was in these vids...

  • who cares bout the head?

  • jsiburt...u know that a one planed motion is always desired...less moving parts.

  • He changed his swing to get longer. He switched his swing the same time he switched equipment for this reason also. Other player were catching up with him off of the tee. One vs. two plane, neither is better, it depends on the players physical characteristics, and what they are comfortable with. Remeber Jack was a two planer, and El Tigre still is, he just has more one plane characteristics.

  • Moves too much to the right, watch Hogan and older greats of the game, they hardly moved off the ball. Moving to the right is a mistake. Leads to incosistancy, its why tiger doesn't drive it the straightest.

  • drive for show putt for dough. you dont need to be in the fairway to score. but it helps

  • no but it sure helps when you are hitting 8 iron instead of 4.

  • sleesatk dosent know what hes talknig about...his swing now is much more consistant motion...one plane vs 2 plane...1 plane always wins

  • Tigers new "One plane" swing is better, remember im talking about his iron swing. I have found the reason Tiger driver game is so less efective is b/c of his set up...he stands to tall at adress...just my two cents.

  • hmmmmm.

  • i think the speed of his practice swing is the same as my real swing

  • he is an amazing golfer but when you think about it, when Ben Hogan was playing, an analysis of his swing showed that on his downswing, the acceleration of his club was 34 feet per second. The acceleration of gravity is 32 feet per second. Tiger just swings fast because he has the build of a football player and he has that ability to.

  • It is so weird...it's like his swing is matched to his body perfectly.

If you or I went out and tried to do what he dose, even if we could do it...we would still shank the ball like hell.

  • he is a freak...that's why he is No.1 in the world. I really don't know how he winds up that much and when he has that perpendicular angle at the bottom of the swing but gets that right hand to turn over controllably. Tiger is amazing.

  • hey tiger has da madest swing aye check out ma swing and see if u can improve it ok plz comment

  • I can do that, I can do, I can, I, love you Tiger

  • His new swing isnt as good. He need a better instructor...

  • His new swing is better. It stays on one plane and gives him more options. Also, it doesn't stress his knee like his old swing, so he will play longer. Beyotch

  • what "options" does he have now?

  • He can work the ball both ways and place it anywhere in any direction

  • You can do that with any repeatable swing. Look at Jim, he's got ultra 2 plane and he can still work the ball. Ever see that clinic on the golf channel? Jim Furyk explains what he does and that explanation works for any swing. Open the face, goes left to right, close the face, goes right to left.

  • right... but it's easier to make changes on the fly with a one plane swing. Also, a big point no one talks about is the fact that this swing rounds around his knee instead of snapping into it as his old swing did. Longevity for the man and more of him to enjoy for us.

  • i'll take the new swing... the old swing... hell his swing when he was 4 yrs old was not too bad either!

  • listen hes the greatest fucken golfer ever, lol u guys are so funny, id take his swing when he was 12 fkn years old LOL, id take his swing the day after he had knee surgery on the golf course lol, id take his worst swing out of his last 5million LOL, the guy is a freak of nature holy shit did u c the distortment in his body, unreal

  • Tiger's knee surgery was a pretty major factor in his decision to alter his swing. One which I think you all seem to be neglecting. I personally feel his previous swing was superior, yet the new one takes some of the pressure off his knee, which should give him a few more years at the peak of his game, which means MANY more majors.

  • Ludicrous. Feel free to name any player in history who ever had a knee injury playing golf. He made the swing change from 2000 to his present form because (in his words) "you always want to try and get better". In my opinion, his swing in 2000 was perfect as evidence by his G.I.R (75%) and driving accuracy (also around 75%). Obviosly it doesn't seem to matter as he's still by far the best player but he didn't change his swing to avoid injury...that's just stupid.

  • the reason because of his swing change he has said MANY times, he did not like his swing because his swing was focused more on distance, he didn't have the control he would have liked to have with his golf swing so now he swings with more control, accuracy, and consistency but still maintains the distance, not as much, but enough for him and he is just now gaining control over his new swing.. be prepared for him to rewrite the history books

  • Wrong. He stated he wanted to change his swing because "he wanted to try and get better"...PERIOD. You must not have read my post because in 2000 his accuracy was phenomenal in GIR and fairways (the highest he's ever had). His swing in 2000 was flat out better than it is now.

  • Just watch his clinic, he says right there that he went through the swing changes solely because he felt that he wasn't in full control of his swing and could only go at it fully and not hit half shots or take off distance and also to improve consistency. He says he was nearly always in line with the flag but the distance was letting him down.

He made the change to put more of an emphasis on being pin high. GIR doesn't matter if you are 50ft long or short every time.

  • That's right. In his "new swing" he dips quite a bit with the driver. His driver acc. has gone from

    68.6% to 55.4%.

  • His swing with his driver is quite different than his irons. He gets up on his toes, trying to get to that mytical "Haney Plane". I agree he had to change for longevity, but IMO Haney has screwed up his driver big time. Only Tiger's great athleticism allows him to get away with his poorer driving.

  • BS is old swing is better, the main difference is that know he hits more fades and he used to hit more draws, also his arms turn more now instead of his shoulders

  • new swing is so much better, more consistant by a huge amount and much better ball flight. But i will admit the old swing was fun too watch to thow.

  • his position at around 6:25 is just freaky cool

  • brian you are incorrect, he isnt extending as much as he use to, the wrist hinge which initates the backswing is much more natural now whereas before he use to extend his hands back as far as possible to create unnatural width.

  • his new swing he just extends his arms so much...his follow through is not as intense as it used to be

  • well in 2004 he changed his swing causing him "slump" but a year later hes just getting used to his new swing and 2006/07 he has better ball flight and accuracy and so on... so what im mean is that his new swing is just taking him one year to get used to his new swing... same as his old swing 11 years ago

  • his main problem right now is the sycronisation of the left wrist and forearm during his backswing, if he corrects this is will win every tournament he plays, if u were to copy his golf swing go for 2000 its much more similar and manageable than his swing now, the one plane golf swing is extremly difficult to master. hope this helps

  • Tigers current swing is so much better than his old swing, its on a much more similar swing plane i.e. the club shaft remains on the same "plane" throughout the swing, his old swing was way to upright and used too much of his hips which caused the club to drop to the inside which meant he had to flip his hands to try to square the face back up, nowadays his main problem is the rotation of the left forearm during the backswing, he also has a very different release of the golf club

  • This is old video -- Tiger's new swing isn't nearly this good -- much looser. Still the best swing in the game, but his Slam swing from 200, when he worked with Butch, is the one to copy. Also, check out old video of his swing when he won his first Masters -- the speed of his hips back then is astonishing.

  • are you all are retarded...first off his swing is the best its ever been he won how many straight past the few months? and came back from missing the cut to at the open to winning two majors...and JamJar "not a swing you want to copy..." why wouldnt you want to copy the best player in the game swing...i dont even care to watch many other people..i analyze his swing all the time...people are retarded...hes the best there is!!

  • Tiger's new swing produces a more consistent ball flight and gives him more control over trajectory and shape. The problem is he swings so hard that the way he rotates now makes his misses left or right and not as much up and down, as they tended to be before. I feel his new swing is better because it gives him more control over his golf ball, but when he is off he hits some pretty far off-line shots.

  • I disagree. His new swing is more consistent. He would spin out too fast with his hips in this old swing.

  • Then why is his driving accuracy so much worse now than compared to his old swing?

  • I totally agree...

  • I disagree. His new swing is more consistent. He would spin out too fast with his hips in this old swing.

  • Tiger's old swing is way better than the new one

  • definetely his old swing.

  • Very fine analysis!

  • Tiger woods is why we all play golf.

  • Not in any way shape or form a swing you want to copy lol

  • lol at the end he called tiger a freak

  • it mentioned the name harmon still as coach of tiger...so probably at the newest 2003 or 2004?

  • how old is this video?

  • This video is from 2002.
