This was comedy people......not what we have today....trash trash....never ever be a Jack Benny,Bob Hope,Red Skelton.etc thank GOD they are on tape for all to see forever.
Jack could make more people laugh by just looking and not saying anything than anybody else I knew. His expressions conveyed more humor than words could, but his verbal quips never missed their zing either. He was quite generous with the jokes, too. That helped people warm up to the other entertainers, and plus help reinforce the idea of Benny being the foil of the show, much like John Cleese did for Basil Fawlty and Carol O'Connell did for Archie Bunker.
This was from Jack's "New Talent" show of December 31, 1956. The routine goes all the way back to Benny's stage appearances in the '30s, and he frequently revived this "bit" on radio and TV in later years {the last time he did, they were called "The Smothers Sisters"!}. Iris Adrian played the "cynical" one, and while Peggy Mondo DID play "the fat one", THIS one was portrayed (I believe) by Muriel Landers.
No, Mary Costa, a shaply creature, was Sleeping Beauty's voice. I believe the lady here is Peggy Mondo - does anyone know if I am right about this. She was in the "Music Man."
yea.. she was my next door neighbor growing up.. she died more than 15 years ago, but i still think of her from time to time... one of the nicest kindest people i ever met. she was sweet and generous beyond words.
before she passed away, she went on a mjor diet, and actually lost the fat girl image she had made acareer out of. my dad said it was the rapid weight loss that killed her, but either way she's gone and i miss her
One minor complaint. This seems to be displayed on a wide screen
TV which "stretched" the picture to fit a wider screen. WHY? this only
distorted the image and made everybody look like fatheads. Please
use normal proportions when posting. Thanks

Muriel Landers also appeared with the Three Stooges in a couple
of late 50's Columbia shorts.
