  • In test one, the second was much better, you can easily smooth it out, but it looks more realistic than the first (Smoother one). In the second test, obviously the first was better, of course that may be due to the incompetence of the uploader.

  • holy crap that took 30h to render and bake? Please tell me you have a wooden pc

  • Flowline looks like dense liquid and blender looks like a bunch of small particles or less dense liquid. I like flowline better, but it's very subjective.

  • @vd853 Plus with Blender you don't exactly need to blow your money away to get it.

  • RealFlow Is better with fluid because that's mostly what it's about! Blender Isn't Just About water simulations. That's Why realflow looks better! Great vid by the way, I like both simulations...xD

  • You can get great effects with BOTH software. It's really how YOU set it up and tweak it that will make it more realistic. Adding splash particles for foam in krakatoa will also add more realism.

  • @staphinfection YEAH YOU ARE RIGHT SIR

  • 30 AAAHH

  • Eeez nyce!

  • This will be in update 1.9 of minecraft

  • uh so i dont get it... 30 hours, what was the point of this? If it was a "test" it doesnt need to be on youtube lol.... what now?

    still cool though, thumbed up

  • they are all awesome

  • 1: blender 2: flowline

  • @b1tTutorials its proprietary of scanline studios. It isnt commercially available, only the studio uses it.

  • better than reality

  • Blender is better, because it is free!

  • First one looks like the consitantsy of milk lol.

  • I wonder if my calculator could render this

  • @TheTechBite pfff, my potato can render this in 2 hours

  • @TheTechBite if you build a calculator with a quadcore, 8gb ram and linux as a os than you should able to do this. xD

  • How did u get flowline

  • @BMAnnArbor bought?

its really hard to understand that you can get easly software if you buy it .)

  • @b1tTutorials You can't buy flowline. Scanline Studios makes and owns Flowline and they don't sell it. Flowline is only used on projects done by Scanline. Do some research before you start correcting people.

  • The second one was much better!

  • What Render an Bake settigs do you Use in Blender

  • The first one with Blender was better, the other one looked too oily. But i recon the actual fluid simulator on the second Blender one was fixed, cos I have made fluid sims like that and they haven't ended up like that

  • i never liked clear liquids anyways

  • Flowline looks far superior in every aspect.

  • Looks like the resolution was biggerib the Flowline ones, and the parameters of the liquid weren't tweaked to behave the same

  • blender seems to be really powerfull

  • The 30h render time stat is totally meaningless unless you tell us the machine spec it was rendered on...

  • I honestly think the second blender one was botched. too many particles and less volume, they could have done a better job

  • @randosity42

    your right!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that in the first scene, Blender looked better?

For the second scene the first one looked better. Unfortunately there was no indication which one was Blender.

  • 30 h rendering and baking for 360p?

  • May be you don't know how to use flowline!

  • Damn, I've never baked for 30 hours straight.. :]

  • @oIndee But have you /been/ baked for 30 hours straight? :3

  • lol blender sucks in comparison. actually there is no comparison. blender sims are unusable for VFX shots.

  • Scanline Flowline se ve mejor. La viscocidad y la metaballs se comportan mucho mejor en la 2da scena, se nota en la tension superficial, si es que en algun momento uno quisiera simular una escena de inundacion

  • looks like milk. I LIKE MILK!

  • in test one the second ones better in test two the first ones beter

  • Flowline looks more like yoghurt, because of the water density.

Blender has the possibility to do so, but when rendering water it looks most realistic.

    And its free.

  • CINEMA 4d!!

  • milk?

  • Flowline looks a lot better in the 2nd one!

  • flowline looks ike its disenagrating

  • 30 H TO RENDER?! OMG :O!

  • Flowline looks like cement.

  • Wow !!! That should be in game !!!

  • Thats sick! It looks photo realistic

  • Blender! Blender! Blender! i have blender! its awesome and easy... ish...

  • Interesting. In the first comparison Blender looks slightly more realistic to me, and in the second Flowline is inarguably far superior (although as others have commented on, the actual water density looks like it might be different, I also feel you cut Blenders second video off to quickly)

  • Crysis 3

  • Would be cool to have this in minecraft§!

  • muito Loko! Gostei.

  • wtf fuck was that at 0:17 ???

  • @siperdellyeer the first and third one is the comercial what not and the second and fourth is blender freeware. and i must say for it being free it doesnt look to bad at all.

  • @strgzr53 yeah but whats that at 0:17???

  • @siperdellyeer that would be blender. it goes flowline blender flowline blender.

  • @strgzr53 but the 4th looks like a million (my)ballz attacking a city lol

  • Blender held up pretty good in the first. The second one for blender looked like it was less fluid being used, which, if the amount of fluid was actually the same, shows the limits of blender's capabilities. All in all, Blender is an amazing opensource entry to the genre.

  • ok thats awesome but i really want milk now

  • I love the scene at 0:14, how is this made possible?

  • first one looked like cloth.try realflow vs blender

  • got milk?

  • Milk!!!

  • it takes an hour calculation to make 10 seconds video...

  • Flowline is so much more better in rendering.

  • well the fluid simulation was not so good in the second action, you need to improve that.

  • I am a blender user, but I think I like the "stringiness" of the Flowline simulation better, especially in the second test.

  • Its great But, Will it Blend? That is the Question

  • @ConnorsworldAU it have already been blended... Several times...

  • @ConnorsworldAU It does in Blender!

  • @ConnorsworldAU your a fag. everyone says that. be original douche bag

  • @ConnorsworldAU i don't get that reference....

  • Blender is defenitly better in the first test (especially with the overhang at the back where the other program makes it seam like thick paint)

However the 2nd test blender's version just looks pathetic...

  • Flowline seems to have the apperance of chocolate milk o_o

  • render time 12 years...

  • 0:13, best ive ever seen

  • Both are mind blowing o_O

  • Blender has better simulation in my opinion. blender wins. XD AND ITS FREE

  • i'm only starting with 3D , so sorry for the stupid question but what is "Baking" for?

  • @rzb82 it completes the simulation frames.

  • @rzb82 Calculating the fluid motion. Usually using the navier stokes equations.

  • @UBERxL33T From what I can see, he mistyped his comment. He was sayin that "to me Blender looks better than flowline which is probably 15- 50 000 bucks"

  • @UBERxL33T Why dont you fuck off retard just leave me alone and get rid of this video if your going to be a jackass ...

    THEPOLARIS KID MOFO

  • BLENDER IS BETTER THAN WHAT?

  • @UBERxL33T i know i was saying thatb flowline was 15,00 to 50,00 dollars you tard i have blender

  • to me blender looks BETTER than that probably $15,000 - $50,000

    commercial program

thumbs up if you think so too

  • blender wins

  • thats my cum

  • does this take a long to to convert it in to video or compile or what ever you do to make it work

  • this is the best fluid demonstration ive seen. the liquid doesnt look so much like jelly, it looks thinner, and overall more like water. great job.

    ~ashz~

  • always thought blender was better

  • I saw a pretty cool Blender made B-2 Stealth Bomber animation and that was awesome, I'd hate to see the bake and render time.

  • that's not water O_O is CUM XD

  • @Ametallica67 lol and O_O

  • It's hard to make any conclusions from a comparison like this unless you go all out and make very strictly sure that every single setting of both simulators are exactly equal - voxel grid densities, viscosities, and so on. Not really possible since their option sets do not fully overlap. They're both awesome (but Blender kicks ass).

  • First test, Blender

second test, they both werent great.....but i like the second one more becasue it didnt look like spiderman was skeeting :P

  • the first flowline sim looked a bit.. a bit like drippy batter, or, some sort of milk, it wasnt really water, blender seemed more like water .

  • Really god job!

  • on the first simulation the second one was far better. on the second simulation the first one was better.

  • YOU ARE EPIC

  • they use the same font that Bullet for my Valentine uses!

  • what is the font?

  • The link is broken.

  • Why is the first one different a different color? I like the second one's movement but not the grey color.

  • i just LOVE the ambient occlusion!!

  • flowline wins and allways will its the besy simulator there is

  • Very sweet!

  • That is great

  • 30H? WOW i cant wait... i m playing with algodoo

  • blender is virus free, right?

  • @Lugia625

yes, because we all know that free software must mean people want to destroy your computer. I mean why else would somone make something free.

(use a bit of common sense here mate.)

  • @muzzoid

You would be suprised how mean *cough* and rude (sarcastic) people on the internet can be.

  • @Lugia625

Yeah perhaps i'm but it is a pretty stupid question that disrespects the communities that put so much hard work into it.

Not everyone is out to get you, and it is very rare to find an open source project that has malicious intent.

If you do end up giving it a shot, i say good luck aa learning 3d is a very time laborious job, and you will need to work out the answers to a lot of questions by yourself. And that isnt a sarcastic comment at all.

  • @muzzoid

Truthfully, I intended no offense to the makers of the program, I'm just being careful.

  • flowline.

It's not really fair, though, because flowline is a commercial product and blender is open source.

  • It looks like this comparison wasn't set up well. Blender is clearly handicapped here, with low-res fluid for no real reason other than to make the other thing look good.

  • @vincent8er I liked blender best!! You'r pretty dum.

  • @vincent8er Itts a... program, what you think it was dude?

  • commercial software are weaker some times in front of blender. some time u just get shocked how much one small open source software can do. one example it this fluid simulation. and BIG BUCK BUNNY

blender is getting advanced every day . one day it will be one of the best in commercial world.

  • In the first one of flowline the liquid sticks together and sort of fans out into long edges before it breaks. It looks like REALLY thick paint.

Blender looks more realistic to me. Even the fact that you are comparing it to a commercial product shows how awesome blender is.

  • i think flowline is a little bit better than blender in big water massers

  • BLENDER

  • 0:15

    2012 !!!!!!!

    LOL

  • blender isn't freeware, its opensource

  • I like flowline

  • BLENDER!!!

  • I agree with the (possibly) general consensus that Blender might have a tiny advantage in the first and a significant disadvantage in the second...

But since Blender is developed by the community, hopefully someone will watch this and figure out how to improve Blender... Get on it!

  • This demo is 3 years old, so may not be representative any more.

  • @PaperIsland not to mention that the setup for the second in blender isn't nearly as good..

  • flowlines better for water

  • flowline wins the second sim, but blender is better because you don't need to pay for it

  • Blender is not Freeware, it's Free? That is what Freeware means....

I personally love Blender, it's great to see free software this powerful. Everyone can (legally!) acquire and use the program, another perk that might hinder people without thousands to spend on 3ds Max, etc.

  • actually its open source. Freeware is when Its a single individual person making software for free, blender is an entire community of people, so technically its not 'freeware'.

But legally will never cost any money because its under a gnu license.

  • cool video

oh 0:00 blender is not freeware its free! :-)

  • blender rulez

  • Blender i think wins the first round blender is aeosme for being free

  • Blender 4 ever :D

  • And blender is the winner! I think so because the fluid in flowline seems like a bunch of balls and blender looks more formed.

  • but Blender is free.. and it kicks ass! :D

been using blender since i was 10 :)

  • flowline is better for water but I have to say blender is better knowing that it's a free-ware and it would b kinda pathidic if a free-ware beat a pay-ware animator

  • Milk :D

  • blender still kicks but even compared to other share ware and now it has smoke physics built in!

  • i love blender but after seeing this i can see flowline is a bit smoother and it looks really cool at 0:14. still blender kicks but for a freeware.

  • @TechnoStickmen you have to remember that Flowline wa made only for simulatinos. Blender was made for a hole lot of different features. which limits how long then can concentrate on making somethign accurate

  • ur right... i've looked up flowline a little bit ago and it blew me away... it even calculates the way air moves under water and it has benn used in countless movies such as ironman and the 2012 movie. I had no idea back then. Oh well, too bad I can't get a hold of it.

  • Lol look at 0:07 how flowline has FAIL water particles. Blender rocks! ROCKS! ROOOOOCCCCKSSS!!!!

    *sorry*

  • I dunno, Flowline has much more flowing water.

  • at 0:07 flowline reminds me of chocolate

  • Maybe i should buy flowline to help my sweet tooth lol.

  • @danielkirk1 yeh but lokos at 14 seconds. That simulatino kicks blenders ars

  • Hmmm... I guess we have to agree to disagree, but i value your opinion. May i just add that 3dsmax is the best investment i ever made, and you should look up it's awesome particles. Keep modellin.

  • @danielkirk1 i think maya beats 3d max tbh. i think 3d max features to be abit dated. spesh the modeling tools

  • I don't really think 3dsmax 2010 has dated modeling tools at all. Also maya is much more exspensive, of course it's better. They are both the top programs in the industry.

  • can i just ask though. why you think blender kicks flowlines ars? seriously. Flowline has a much more accurate way of calculating particles and you can get alot more detail from it aswell. Were as with blender you can see its detailing level is not as high as flowlines

  • Because those things you just stated are your opinion. Projects can be spent time on until they look nearly 100 Percent real in any 3d software. I believe blender kicks flowlines ass because for what you get for free... It's truely amazing if you ask me. Also, with this video on fluid simulations, blender looks like the one with the upper-hand.. That is my opinion.

  • @danielkirk1 well yeh i agree that for a program thats free the simulation is amazing. But the second video. The last one is blender. and it looks realy crap and unrealistic

  • But we have to remember that the project used to show the demonstration could of been improved even to the point that blender and flowline look exactly the same. This of course if much different with top of the line programs such as Maya and 3ds... Because of their advanced technology rendering. If Flowline is better, it's by a fraction. And why would you pay for a program that is a fraction better than a free one? :)

  • Flowlines aint much better & Blender is free nuff said.

  • blender

  • which one is better?

  • Can you imagine guys, one day the games will have that kind of physics.

  • @MrFrooost im looking forward to that :P

  • I think the second one looks slightly better because the first one covered it like cream, while blender's was more realistic cream.

  • first test I thought the second one was the best, but the second test I thought the first one was definitively the best.

  • @cl1mbat1ze

Yeah, at the second test the second one sucked.

  • @cl1mbat1ze there is a difference between realism and the amount of epicness there is.

  • I prefer blender, probably because its completely free XD

  • hehe, you hit the nail on the head there xD

  • blender does not seem to take into account waters surface tension.

  • BLENDER IS WAY BETTER

  • i still think blender is better

  • the first one imo

cuz u have to take into account transparency

    it wont look as bulky

  • right. but adding ray transparency or sub-surface scattering would have increased a lot the render time. that's the only reason why it's a "solid" looking fluid
