@migazl Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes weddings can be hard, but experience helps with the difficult ones. As for advice, start slowly, make sure you have the kit, especially for dark churches, venues etc. Develop your own style of wedding photography, try to appeal to modern Brides .....
@Solarfactor Hi, and thanks for the kind comment. I don't set white balance .... All 5 cameras are set to 'Daylight' white balance for the whole day, wether shooting sun, shade, flash, or video light. I then batch white balance in Lightroom. Shooting a fixed white balance ie: Daylight gives full control over the tint (green / red), therefore, I'm not having to adjust it all the time during post process.
@Anhslaught Hi, thanks for your comment. I leave my 5DII's on evaluative metering and they get it right most of the time. Constantly check the screen and use exposure compensation when required.
Very very very beautiful pictures. great captures, great composition and exposures. Awesome Post production. Your work is really good. Thanks for sharing
Hi i love your work and i am looking at becoming a wedding photgrapher my self. I was wondering what tipe of exsternal light is your assistent using during bridal prep.
Hi Dave, love the vids very usefull, just a question what light was your assistant (your wife I think) using to light the bride with and how powerfull is it? i like the fact that you can light just the subject without carrying lights and stands.
@vuilbaard101 Hi, the light is a Lowel ID video light, available from Prokit in the UK. I use the 100W bulb with it, so plenty of power when required.
Hi Dave. Like everyone else here, I find your vids to be top notch out of all the wedding tutorial vids on youtube. Thank you! I believe I saw someone mention that you shoot in "Program" mode? Is this correct? And if so, could you tell me which modes you prefer to shoot in for different senarios, for example... Bridal prep, ceremony and Reception? Thanks much!
@mrgreenkill33 Hi, and thanks for your kind comment. I shoot 'Program' mode for a whole wedding and in every different situation, just using the Canon dials to change the settings if required. The top dial will change the aperture and the rear dial adjusts the exposure compensation (which I am using all the time).
Hi Dave I've been asked to do a couple of weddings and think It may be a struggle with the lenses I have, can you advise me a bit. I see you are using L series lenses and I have telephoto lenses a 10-20 sigma/18-135 and a 55-250 canon. I would say I must use the 10-20mm the most because of the quality. But I'm so worried I may mess them up ?
@LongshanksSid Hi, thanks for the comment. You will find your 10-20mm will be too wide for doing weddings, if the 18-135mm gives you good quality then that will be your most useful lens. If you are going to do many weddings, then good lenses are a must ..... The money you make would be best spent improving your collection of lenses.
What f-stop, shutter speed & iso were you using with your 70-200mm when you were indoors at the bride's house? Your shutter speed sounds fast, your pictures are sharp and there seems to be no grain.
@nicpham Hi, thanks for the comment. I was shooting everything at 1600iso at the house which was giving me enough speed (at least 60th sec @2.8), if it gets a little dark I just use the video light as well, and very rarely flash anything. You won't see any grain because using the 5DII's together with the new noise reduction in Lightroom 3 removes all the noise.
@DaveNunnWeddings Sweet thank you! i also just wanted to let u kno that these 3 videos are by far the best how to and tutorials on weddings ive found. your pictures are amazing and ur a true inspiration!
Dave, the huge lens you used it's the 70-200 right? I saw you used it for almost everything! I also understand you are shooting at iso 1600 right? And using P mode!
My question is, why do they look so sharp? I mean isn't high Iso makes photos grainy?
Help me with that please. I want to stop using flash for everything I do!!! BTW your photos and work it's amazing. Wow!!!!!
@stolenheartsphoto Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, the lens is the Canon 70-200 F2.8, I shoot around 75% of a wedding with this lens. My cameras are always in 'P' mode, I just override the settings as required. Shooting iso 1600 on the Canon 5DII's is not a problem with noise as long as the exposure is good, also Lightroom 3 has fantastic noise reduction on export.
Awesome video. Big help for upcoming wedding photographers like me. Loved the background music ( would you mind telling us the name of it?) . Also, I saw you were using 70-200 during wedding dress prep. I thought that lens is used for capturing distance object. Can you share the benefit of using in close- ups please.
@jimilpatel5 Hi, and thanks for the comment. The music is 'Beyond Words' (not sure of the artist, sorry). I use the 70 - 200 for around 70% of any wedding, I just love the perspective it gives, it throws backgrounds perfectly out of focus, great to be able to zoom in for close ups, and of course it's a fast lens (F2.8) perfect for low light ...
You are a star, especially with the advice you always give to people. Is it possible you could put your videos on a disc for us to buy?Much easier than watching Youtube.

@SuperJimmygee Hi, thank you for your kind comments. The lenses I am using are the Canon 17 - 40 F4 and the Canon 70 - 200 F2.8 image stabilised. Both on Canon 5DII's.
i have a question. i love using natural light and dislike flash. i use manual mode and i shoot photos of people moving alot. i can never get alot of natural light and freeze people in the shot without blurring and if i use a shutter speed thats to fast the pic is to dark..should i use apeture priority mode? and do i have to use flash? what settings would you use to fix this problem?. and most of the time i shoot indoors. please respond. thanks
@mervie17 Hi, if you want to use flash as a last resort and you want to concentrate on stopping people moving then try TV mode (speed priority). hi, and i must say ive seen lots of wedding photography videos on youtube, but yours out takes them all....great job....we need more more more ha ha.............also if you'd be kind enough to answer, what was the portable light your assistant was holding? and what was the wide angle lense you was using apart from the 70-200.
thank you for getting back to me.........ive been looking at all the reviews reguarding the 17-40 lens and people are not saying to many good things about it????? they were saying that it distorts people?, im getting into photography and have just purchased a 5d mark 2, i gather thats the camera you are using?......im doing a friends wedding for them and have got a 70-200 2.8, but need a wider lens for the group and like you for in door wider shots, so can u help me with some advice please ?
@123GEZZY Hi, the 17 - 40 is a fantastic lens. It will only distort if you go in to close with the lens wide angle. The 17 - 40 is excellent for indoor group shots, and out doors, I do all my groups with this lens. Yes the cameras are 5DMKII's.
hi dave, and once again thank you so much for getting back to me, as you know you didnt have to.....if you say this is a great lens then im happy with tthat, and thats what ill go for.........ive looked into that light you told me about, they aint to cheap are they ha ha £348.wow i thought but, looking at you bridal prep video, it looks like it serves its purpose well and being continuous light you see what you get when it comes to the photos i gather, and will enable me 2 get much better photos
thx again dave for getting bck to me. if u say its a good lens then im happy with that,& thats wat ill get. I looked into the light u use & its not cheap i see ha ha. but i bet it serves a good purpose, as you get what you see with the light and it will enable me to get better shots during poor lower light? what iso would you of been while shooting the bride on the indoor prep video? as i aint tried my 5d mrk 2 out yet? thanks so much 4 taking the time to answer dave.
@123GEZZY Hi, I rarely shoot below 1600iso using the video light. The 5DII files are excellent at 1600. I have even pushed it to 3200iso a lot during the winter weddings and still get a great file.
thx dave for helping with great advice...........i cant afford the light you use so im gonna go with a portable LED light with different fronts for softening etc, daylight balanced ( UNTIL DIFFERENT COVERS GO ON) , and i hope this will do the same thing?? its cheaper anyway ha ha......Ur a star and think its great that u take time to help others from your amazing photography...thx again dave, keep up the good work....more videos plz....haha

@mervie17 Hi, if you want to use flash as a last resort and you want to concentrate on stopping people moving then try TV mode (speed priority). If you have to use flash, bounce it of the ceiling or walls for a more natural looking shot.
