did you get a drop in E.T.? my z seemed to run faster through a gutted cat. into a flowmaster 2 chamber. The best it ever ran at the track was 11.34 going through the muffler and I figured it would gain a little so I pulled the cat and ran again and it went 11.52, so I put the cat back on, and went 11.37, I love the way it sounds opened up. Just curious as to if yours does the same thing. I am running 3.5 from the turbo to the cat and 3 inch from cat to muffler.
z31 is the sexiest z ever made...my friend had one it talked to him it had a female voice control that told him to put his seatbelt on lol h aways says sometimes my wife dosent shut up.
my friend and i did a little experiment on his 87 Z31 turbo, we dynoed it bone stock minus K&N filter, we then took off his stock catalytic converter then dynoed it again and gained 8 HP and almost 7.5 ft.lbs. of torque. the cat was so restrictive we couldn't look through it. at least we knew it was doing it's job
Hey, nice Z. I used to have an 88 Turbo z31 with a front mount and all of the goodies...anyhow, you should get rid of the post pipe behind your k&n to eliminate the plastic air bellows and go with a hard pipe...doing so results in a faster spool up on the turbo and a little quicker acceleration. I wish I had another z!!
In this setup, I had horrible clearance. So I had to cut it and start over to gain more clearance. Hitting potholes are no problems, but depending on the speed bump it may hit.
Yup, I know you. Yea the cut-outs are awesome. They are a few brands out there. My roommate in college had a cheaper brand that you never really knew if it was fully opened or closed. The QTP however does, so I recommend this brand. Ebay is your best bet.

Nice. I've been watching the exhaust cutouts for some time now. They've changed alot.. I'm actually going to incorperate one into my truck now that I see there is a decent one on the market.
Thanks for the comments! From what I've read about this setup it is possible to gain a peak 30hp. I don't know the actual number which my Z has gained but I can honestly say that I can feel the turbo spool up quicker and have a better throttle response. I think with the combination of a good intake (K&N) plus the electric cut, it has made it alot easier to chirp 3rd gear now.
nice, thanks for the answer.... im about to buy a 84 300zx turbo, for 400, the turbo its gone alredy and the mass air thing does not work, they havent move the car for about 3 years, im going to try to bring her back to life, well see what happens,
