  • Icewind Dale one of the best game and one of the best soundtrack .

  • in past days, when true RPGs exists...

  • No words to describe how awesome that music is

  • But ending is to short :{

  • Niach niach niach its one of best sondtracks from game for me 10/10

  • I am searching for a music that I remember playing in the snowy mountain map. The one contained all the tombs. What was the name of that, anybody?

  • @hydramarinee - Vale of Shadows or Lysan's Lair.

  • HOLY BALLS! Jeremy FUCKING Soule did this theme. Ya know, the guy who did the soundtrack for Skyrim?

  • @gigasloth

i knew him as "the guy who did the soundtrack for Icewind Dale"

  • @gigasloth

The man did a LOT of soundtracks. He's a master at his craft.

  • What is the name of the flute thing? It is hauntingly beautiful.

  • @aceviceroy It sounds like a flute, but played not like most flutes are... Sounds a bit like panpipes, but it's too clean. Might be panpipe notes put into a synthesizer...

  • @aceviceroy "I've found the sample Jeremy Soule uses. It's an Indian Bansuri Flute. I found it in the sampler that comes with Logic Pro. I'll be taking it upon myself to extrapolate this theme. Wish me luck." - tcfrombn

    ^^

  • Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

  • This is how Angels talk <3

  • Easy as goblin pie!

  • Goosebumps. Actual goosebumps. Thank you for posting. Great memories. :)

  • Favorite Video Game track of all time.

  • Fantastic!

  • This music lacks something very important.

    9 more minutes.

  • @tipttt I agree! Forgotten Realms Forever!

  • Wow this is gorgeous... I havent played the game in so long, and didn't quite appreciate the music as much as I do now that I'm older... thanks for sharing.

  • Best song

  • Drizzt Do Urden is my favourite character. I like the game and i also recommend Forgotten Realms-books.

  • one of my favorite game :)

  • It saddens me that compared to classic games like this and Heroes of Might and Magic III does today's games not standing a chance. Damn, I wish I could live through the good times again <3

  • I remember buying Icewind... I was young and looking for a cool game. There it was, Icewind, hanging at the top. That shit was high. I bought it and wow what a game. It's a shame I lost the box and even the discs. I have no clue what happened.

  • God this takes me back. Brilliant song.

  • Magic...

  • @JediMasterBubba the music does seem fitting for the Lady of Silverymoon, and just Silverymoon in general. I'm actually reminded more of Catti-Brie though. :)

  • I can easily recall the moment I arrived in Kuldahar, saw the mighty tree and heard this beautiful song. A classic gaming moment in my rather thick book.

  • This music always reminds me of Lady Alustriel

  • Can u fell magic of this?

  • Art...

  • while BG2 was in nearly all respects the better game, IWD wins on music :)

  • Jeremy Soule is the most epic composer for RPGs...bar none

  • They dont make games like these anymore...Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, best RPG games ever made...

  • *Sigh* Yes, this soundtrack is better then the one from baldur's gate... although I still like Baldur's gate more.

  • yup, that was some magical music. I remember going back there just to hear the song...

  • @solemperor I ALWAYS waited before entering a house or leaving the area before the flute sound from 0.12- 1.10 was finish. I special love the 20 sec part from 0.39 to 0.59.

I have 4 bought games of this game (and also fallout 2 XD) . Cant remember how many times I have finished it. Everytime I find it in the shop, i feel like i just must buy this, for saftey of course, even i have 3 unopened games home:P.

  • Part at 0:39 may well be the best motive I've ever heard.

  • I love this, Jeremy Soule is the master of game music.

  • holy... that's dedication, mate. Of course, I wish you all the best of luck. And keep me updated! :)

  • @neurocrater Already much progress as far as roughing out the theme as it is now. Sounds are pretty close. Needs some tweaking orchestrally. It's been a breeze so far. I might not go so far as to replicate the part from the existing theme 100% perfectly, but perhaps 90%. I haven't figured out what time signature he's using yet... it's pretty loose if there's one at all.

  • I would sometimes just hang around in Kuldahar so that this music would loop, I loved this theme so much.

  • 2 people deserve to have their fucking, worthless, Christian heads smashed in and have their fucking brains thrown at their pathetic face.

  • @MrOpenGamer don't forget niggers and jews

  • @pigeonpsycho

Jews yes, niggers no. The latter don't choose to be who they are, the former do.

  • @MrOpenGamer well they still have jewish blood in them even if they don't believe in the faith, they should die too.

  • @pigeonpsycho

You mean all black people are Jews? Are you sure? Because I don't find that likely.

  • @MrOpenGamer well i think jews should stop running our banks that's for sure

  • @pigeonpsycho

    Absolutely.

  • @pigeonpsycho Ugh, this makes me ill. Just kick back and listen to the damn music and talk about how much you like it. If you wanna bitch and moan like a spoiled brat about your irrational hatred towards people with different levels of melanin then go make a blog.

  • MEMORIES GOD FUCKIN SHIT THIS IS EPICNESS

  • I remember just letting my four heroes stand for a while and gather strength underneath the great tree, basking in its warmth while I enjoyed the music and cried out of sheer happiness and wonder on the inside :p

  • @Foxovsky wow your gay

  • @ydralisk Let him say what he wants to say. Stfu.

  • @ydralisk If you can't understand being so touched by the beauty of this game, why are you even bothering to listen to this music? Are you just sitting there saying "Wow, I'm gay" to yourself over and over? Actually, I kind of hope you are. Once the shock wears off you will realize that being honest with yourself is always for the best.

  • @Foxovsky hahahahahahaha!!! :D :D

  • Kuldahar has the best song in the game.

  • Need a light?

    Oh, wrong game.

  • @Asnaedor *turns head*NO!

  • @Lugnutsthebobcat hahahaha

  • Really beautiful!

  • grace, majesty, enigmatic but afew words to describe this beautiful piece i just wish it were longer! :)

  • EPIC! Ah, memories...

  • Very beautiful. I remember loving this music when playing the game. Funny...This is the only thing I remember from the game.

  • i want longer version!!

  • Never heard about this game, but just the music gives you lust to discover this game. Amazing song.

  • i love this game its just so beatuful and everything :-)

  • I live in the UK and paid $50USD to buy and ship the cd of this entire soundtrack over. All I can say is: Worth. Every. Cent.

  • @DrzBa Damn wish I new that,, I could have emailed you the full sound track in zipeed mp3 file format...

  • @LordsWeapon. Lol. That's kind of you but I got this a few years ago now and it's on my Ipod so I get to listen to it going to and fro work - makes the journey feel purposeful rather than boring. :)

  • @DrzBa I hear yaa. i drive for a living and have many pc game soundtracks to chill out to on the road, just ask if you have one specific title in mind and ill check my library, all my soundtrack tunes are broken out into single mp3 files and can be easily emailed..

  • Ahh a year went by already, I always pull out and dust off the IWD collectors edition DVD and get ready to escape this world every summers end. The music itself is epic enough in its own right to continue this annual event. Ths will be my 10th play through since release, going with 3 rangers, 1 thief and a cleric...ahh sounds good, almost through the first act just mowing down filth...heheee

  • Wow. Absolutely BEAUTIFULl.

  • Incredible soundtrack to this and the rest of the Bioware games in the Baldur's Gate series. In the time since they've been released, nothing even close has come out to rival these fantastic games.

  • Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale had the best soundtracks, ever put in any game. No questions asked.

  • I just wish it was 10 times as long so I could really enjoy listening to it over a long period of time.

Reminds me of the beautiful nature up here in the north (Sweden)

  • Play it again with custom NPC's, the difference from your own made npc, is that they got voice and they actually talk to you and eachother. also play it on heart of fury mode, that way it will last 30 real life days to play if your character is level 1 ;)

you get both a challange since you already played it, AND you get more content

  • I used to get shivers whenever this theme started. Still one of my favourite gaming soundtracks of all time.

  • whats the name of that breathy flute instrument? it's so beautiful

  • @neurocrater

Maybe it's a "shakuhachi" with a very clean sound, that was played on a high pitch, but I don't really know. :)

  • @neurocrater

After doing some research and comparing sound samples, I'm fairly certain that it is a professional ocarina.

  • @Mihndar very nice, cheers mate

  • Comment removed

  • @neurocrater I've found the sample Jeremy Soule uses. It's an Indian Bansuri Flute. I found it in the sampler that comes with Logic Pro. I'll be taking it upon myself to extrapolate this theme. Wish me luck.

  • @zarakhast

...and there's nothing new and original on the horizon (games like Black Isle, Origin, Sir-Tech and Troika used to make). That's the most painful thing, not the ditching of f*cking D&D license

  • &zarakhast

...r simply unplayable. Talking about Dragon Age (and KOTOR too) - kudos to BioWare for bringing those classes to life

"Joe Average" factor is present too, of course. The real problem is that no company except BW makes quality rpgs anymore (Fallout 3 and Oblivion are bad, don't know where the popularity came from. Daggerfall and Morrowind were ok btw) + BW always specialised in epic save-the-world-and-get-the-girl stories...

  • @zarakhast

Prejudice against micromanagement? There was no need for it in BG nor IWD, you just send ur group to fight the enemy and that's it. The only thing you controlled often enough is magic, otherwise IE games just played themselves in battles. Temple of Elemental Evil is the single good example of handling D&D-based battle system, but only because Troika guys were wise enough to make it turn-based. D&D itself doesn't work in videogames. Resetting magic by sleeping is bs and tanks/rogues...

  • @AlexTTspb Of course there was need for Micromanegment in BG and IWD. You didn't just want to send a rouge or wizard in to combat hacking and slaching. Plus characters didn't heal themselves and their mates. potions, scrolls, summoned creatures, backstabs, stealth, bardic music and all those elements had to have the right timing in a lot of combats. Plus there are a lot of DnD fans that want DnD games, not rip off rules or worlds.

  • How can anyone who has played two IE games think that one of them was miles better than the other when in reality there can't be more than 5% between them ? The only possible explanation is that such a chump can't have appreciated either game. How CAN a Baldur's Gate fan NOT love IWD or P : T - or vice versa ?

It's not possible. You must be a f*cking idiot, clearly !

  • I haven't played this game yet. I just finished BG2, and thought it was an amazing game, surpassing of the first, even if it didn't hold a special place in my memory for nostalgia purposes.

So I have a question about this one. Is the gameplay similar to BG 1 and 2? Or is it completely different? I'm looking to buy a copy, but I don't want to be disappointed, if it's too different.

  • @darken27 icewind Dale I & II uses almost the same engine but is more action based. it's still an RPG though. I would recommend trying the demo first.

  • @darken27

if i remember rightly, Icewindale plays just like Baldurs Gate 1. If you install the Heart of Winter expansion, the graphics update to Baldurs Gate 2 quality, however, not all the updated features of BG2 like subclasses and new weapon proficiencies exist.

It's a guddn. top music too.

  • 1.BG2

NWN is something else but game...

  • I think this is actually my favourite piece of game soundtrack ever. Absolutely beautiful.

  • I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I knew that I heard Avatar's theme somewhere before! Copycats, copycats!

  • Should try Wizardry 8 for the PC, has some amazing music

  • Druid theme

  • Best RPG ever made, bar none. And I've played them all.

  • Planescape: Torment would like a word with you.

  • I can't rmember how many times 've played through this game. Todays developers need to take note that rear replay value doesn't come from graphics, its comes from a game with a soul like Icewind Dale's. It's sad to think that the best games of our lives may be the ones we've already played.

  • lol no , icewind dale have great graphics

  • I'm not saying good graphics are a bad thing, but developers nowadays spend ludicrous amounts of time and money trying to one up the competition in terms of graphics and things like the story seem to get tacked on later. Look at Bioware, the infinity engine games had a limited graphics engine but each on of them was PERFECTION. Then along comes neverwinter nights, bye bye party based combat, hello repetetive tiles, boring environments and unconvincing characters.

  • @LazarusThis is how it goes for me.

    Storyline > Gameplay > Graphics

  • @insanetrickster I figure: Gameplay > Storyline > Graphics.

I would rather play a well-programmed game with a bad story than a good story with bad gameplay. Screw the graphics anyhow. ;D

  • @insanetrickster Music > Storyline > Gameplay > Graphics. (The music makes the game IMO).

  • Icewind Dale has better graphics than most modern games.

  • HAVE FAITH BROTHER

  • Amen.

  • ya, cuz technology in this area improving rapidly developers too much focus on performing new tech. but still there are some serious studios exist like bioware. the Neverwinter nights(kinda old as well) and Dragon Age just realesed recently are really mindblowing game

  • NWN certainly didn't have the depth - of feeling or thought - of the IE games. It was a huge disappointment to most fans of BG, IWD and P : T. Bioware, without the guiding, creative hand of Black Isle, deteriorated - but at the same time became more popular, because :

    a) gaming was becoming more popular ; eventually to become something almost universally practised, whereas once upon a time it was the preserve of "nerds".

    b) Bioware forgot their roots. They no longer have the talent.

  • @zarakhast probably u r right.

but I rather belive they r trying find the balance or own way.

to represent the DD games in more broadly acceptable way.

  • @sourzzon Unfortunately "broadly acceptable" = averaged out = dumbed down = not deep any more = crap. Unfortunately.

  • @zarakhast

I've been starting to think that myself, i mean i like the biowares games but if you line them all up from BG onward, they all end up looking exactly the same. The context of their games is the only thing that changes.

I think they have a 'quest making machine' that churns out the same ideas with different names.

  • @SonicSidewinder So are you having a bit of a snidey laugh ? There's no doubt that all the IE games shared most things in common : the rules, the world (Forgotten Realms, or Planescape), the great plots, the excellent dialogue. The combat system (courtesy of D&D) makes the IE games tower above the Elder Scrolls games for sure. Whence the sarcasm (if that's what I detect ?) Make it precise, pin it down. Oblivion, NWN ? For Christ's sake, are they supposed to be good RPGs ?? FFS !!!

  • @zarakhast Not at all man. The IE games where great right? They felt new and original as did the storys that were told in them. It's just when you began to move onward and newer games came out (from the IE games all the way up to Dragon Age), they began to feel like you'd played it all before; from quests right down to the characters you meet.

And well yeah lol, I dont find oblivion compareable to an IE game.

  • I don't like the way RPGs have gone since IWD2. I don't understand the prejudice against D&D rules and against stats and "micromanangement" (this also applies to RTS games). The real reason why this has happened is that gaming is now a very popular pastime (whereas it used to be niche) and developers are only interested in games which Joe Average can play without getting frustrated. People in the industry come up with all sorts of concocted justifications for dumbing down, but that's what it is.

  • @SonicSidewinder I could quite happily have lapped up another two or three IE games. The dialogue, the quests, the NPCs in NWN (the first Bioware RPG to appear after IWD2) feel formulaic, generic. I kept wondering when NWN was going to liven up - it never did ! Ditching the 6 party members was a bad mistake, as was lifting many D&D class and race restrictions. A mage should not be able to set traps ! This way lies lack of specializtion, sameness, boredom ...

    Oblivion is another subject ...

  • @LazarusOwenhart

Neverwinter nights was a laugh in that sence that if failed so badly. Didn´t like it one "bit" either.

However, the game Oblivion could, even thanks to its 3D, match icewind dale. The feeling from entering those deep green forests is engaging indeed. Good music too and the artificial people aren´t badly designed either, so try it! :)

  • @Peace2Speech87 Failed so badly? It was a huge success for BioWare and people are still playing it online.

  • @bongolong

You´re all right, but I meant that it failed my own expectations. Pardon uh, my french. ^^

  • Comment removed

  • @LazarusOwenhart How do you know which is your life's best game if you haven't played it? :)

Anyway, best music form the ost imo.

  • @LazarusOwenhart What are you mad? Today's developers don't want you to replay their old games, they want you to play their new one with "teh aewsome graphiks!"

  • @wrathchild368 you forgot Toddlers best selling argument(TM): IMMURSHUN!!!

liek a rly good in-game atmosphere wouldn't create 'yer beloved IMMURSHUN?

  • @woodwyrm Art direction creates the atmosphere for immersion. The technological advancements in graphics only help it, but they don't tend to age very well, at least not as well as good art direction would.

  • @LazarusOwenhart Dude, the guy who made the music for this is working on the next Elder's Scroll. Just because every game that comes out doesn't top the game before it doesn't mean that the best has already been played.

  • @iphoria You don't get it - it's not the next game and its not about "topping". They don't make games in this way anymore. A typical modern game costs an ungodly ammount of money to make mainly because of visuals and thus video game makers' top priority is getting those money back and turning in a profit. Each next game aims to please a wider audience while BG and IWD were made for people who like THIS kind of games and we loved them!

  • @LazarusOwenhart I agree! Games with soul are the ones that are the most memorable, such as Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, and Okami.

  • @okamimiyazaki Don't forget Baldur's Gate, Morrowind and Deus Ex.

  • ID and the adds are simply epic still to this day but for me ID2 is a little beather why? well you dont sit in one spot in it your are exploring the world you are pushing forward for me that the magic of ID2 .

  • One best music is before Kuldahar.... Please..

  • Even after all these years, I still get the chills when I hear this music. It's just beautiful.

  • @mrBurchill EXACTLY !

  • who finished ID ?

  • Me! With both add-ones!

  • Comment removed

  • Me! 2 times *-*

    Greaaaaaat!

  • me too! :)

    ID 1 + 'Addon

    ID 2 :)

  • amazing...

  • There's a special chill and beauty in the music, let along silence and depth, which matched the game IW and the whole game itself perfectly

You don't hear these awesome music now-a-days, NWN is failure imo comparing to Black Isle ones.

  • This game had the best music I've ever heard.

  • Kuldahar, an oasis of warmth in the Faerun winter :-)

  • White and green the image showed, a little spring ringling in deep green grove, chilly mists flow over tops of trees, chased by silent morning breeze... x)

  • God, I love this game and it's stunning music...

  • This was my favorite tune from the game. Its magical.

  • This gives me a feeling of being in another world.. an adventures world where magic is possible and true heroes live..... love it!

  • me too =)))

  • @KingObould thats what it suppose to be :-) still this world can exist in our minds. try make it happen in other minds by writing books, composing music or creating such games. even if they are fan-made, small.

  • This is just the best song in any game I've experienced....

  • The music makes you feel that you are at north....

  • Jeremy Soule is a genius... period.

  • This music is really beautiful x3.

  • Danke fürs reinstellen.Great Song

  • schade, dass es so kurz ist... egl super schön x3

  • So wunderschön!

Könnt Ihr den frischen, kühlen Wind fühlen?

Könnt Ihr das Rauschen der Blätter hören?

Könnt Ihr das klare, weite Blau des Himmels sehen?

    Ich kann es!

  • love this soundtrack it relaxs me so much

  • Also great music is when you go to Orrick's tower in Severed Hand.

  • One of my favorite melodies!

  • Moim ulubionym utworem jest ten z Samotnej Knieji

My favourite track is from Loonely Wood

  • To jest mój drugi w kolejności ulubiony utwór z Icewindale

This is my second favourite track from Icewindale sountrack

  • A który to pierwszy?

    Which one is first?
