i was surprised that carriage bolts weren't used to attach the railing,, id be afraid if someone leaned against the rail with only nails supporting it,,
You should never "NOTCH" the 4X4 used as hand rail post as it will be weaker there for defeat the purpose of having a 4x4. In stead it should be installed either flush mount on the exterior or embedded by the decking boards inside the headers.... just a thought ....
They never mentioned treatment levels. That lower deck is a little too close to the ground for my liking if the wood is what I think it is. I'd be worried about rot.
4x4 deck post should have been bolted not just nails also , just nailing spindles they tend to twist if not screwed but other then that very nice deck
What..they looking to flip the house? I don't build decks for a living but man home depot, that sux! Nailed railing posts for starters. What ever happen to hiding the screws. Modern building nobody uses stair skirts anymore at least good builders, for one reason they can sheer off and nailing them off like they did will never hold after 6 months, bouncy stairs. Incorrect fastners to hold the joist hangers too. Man what a joke.
Great to see the amount of how-to guides coming on to youtube, and with tips for the home-maker to enable them to 'see' the job in action before attempting it themselves.
if you are going to biuld the rigth or no what the f your doing go for it.the deck in my was buid by the previous home owners did a shitty job.the lr hand reil post was buried like 2 inches in the ground .and theres no cement footing.the best part was we only 1 to sell house because we want a smaller house, and they went and baught a bigger house .c.s.did not tell us about how the naigbor like to be in everybodys bussiness.how I know cordless interfarance talk smack to bi*** acros the st.
Man, all those nice extra touches with the router and then you're going to nail the rail posts? You better go back and put two lag bolts in each post dude or you just ripped that homeowner off big-time! Those rails will be wobbling in no time with nails!
That lower deck seems unfinished, it should wrap around the larger deck more so the underside of the main deck isn't visible. Nonetheless, great vid.

... this is a cheap and flimsy deck built with nails only? Not surprising coming from HD.

"Hope you've learned something". Of course, how to build flimsy rails that wouldn't pass code in any serious jurisdiction...
