  • i wish pick up auto train from ohio

  • @TheDan4279, Well, unfortunately the Auto Train terminates near Washington, DC.You could ride The Cardinal from Cincinnati to DC, pick up a car in DC, and then ride AutoTrain. But it's expensive: about $200-250 for the ticket and another $250 for car fare. One way.

  • @jpkazarian ok thack and how long it the ride from lorton va to FL

  • @TheDan4279, about seventeen hours. Visit amtrak dot com, type LOR in the From box, SFA in the To box, and click Go. You can get details on the schedules and prices without actually buying a ticket.

  • @jpkazarian iam going to take auto trian summer of 2012 and look like lot of fun

  • CF7 at 0:39?

  • @TPBX225, sure looks like one. GP7 vents, Cleburne cab. Believe it was used to switch the auto carriers around.

  • i have that video. its in a tape form. i have to use a vcr to for it to play. but still i love the Amtrak auto trains

  • I'm guessing this was before the time of Superliner.

  • @MachintoshCJ Actually, both the Superliner and the Auto-Train are from the same era, the 1970's. Auto-Train was started in 1971 by a private company, which eventually went bankrupt. Amtrak resumed the service as the Auto Train (no hyphen) in 1983. Superliner cars were first ordered by Amtrak in the late 1970s.

At the time of this video, both Auto Train and Superliners were in regular operation. They still are today.

Visit Wikipedia and search for Auto Train and Superliner.

  • @jpkazarian Well then, there isn't a point of using amfleet if they can carry more people with superliners.

  • Do you have videos that actually show the complete consist?

  • The 90s were good times for the rail road.

  • That's the 90's olright... People walking cross the rails when the crossing gates are down.

  • dang those p42s look huge

  • Actually the 800s are the P42's predecessor, the B40-8P aka P40. Aside from the numbers they are almost identical from the outside.

  • that's what i said when i was 7 feet away

  • There is one question that i see no one has ever asked.

How come some newer videos f40phs have headlights on the bottom of the engine(one on each side)(like in this video) and some dont?

  • Those are ditch lights. They weren't required when the F40PHs were new so they weren't built with them. The gov't made ditch lights mandatory in the mid 1990s and Amtrak added them to the F40PHs at that time.

  • Oh thanks for answering....

i like them better without the ditch lights

  • I'm currently a carman at this yard and it is awesome to see some of the old equipment I never was able to work on. I wish we still had the old carriers as the new ones are absolute junk!

  • @wusaint36 how long does it take to load/put together one of the trains

  • When did they start running Superliners

  • In 1995 they ran new superliners along with old single leveled cars. In 1996 the Auto Train started using superliners daily, and also becoming the second superliner train in Florida the first being the Sunset Limited in early 1993.

  • WoW, that is some old stuff.

  • Yep I even have the video from Pentrex that talks about this service. It takes place in 1994 too.

  • Nice Video. These old videos are classics.
