    Viva Portugal.

  • @FishBrothersReturns Yes, many ports and villages (sometimes only many forts and "fortins) - East Africa, Asia, many Indonesian isles etc.) altough Muscat, Aden, Mombay, Daman, Ormuz etc. were great cities(and are). Barhein Kigdom in Arabian Peninsula(its frontiers were set and survice from Portuguese rule) Goa itself expanded drom the Island to the mainland in a territory larger the the Madrid Comunity(Spain today). But the Great territory in Asia was half Sry Lanka under Portuguese rule.

  • It's PORTUGUESE, not Portugese. If you really want people to buy your mediocre products, you wouldn't be so sloppy and lazy.

  • One of the reasons that the Portuguese don`t wanted America is that it was not India and the first secret expedition before Colombo, attested that the natives was very aggressive and were many. So we prefer the Brazilians natives case they were more pacifying people and better to conquer whit out any battle (smart option), so the English and French must handled with the problem to beat the Indians. There were the colons, Irish and north European, who won than, not the English or French army.

  • Portuguese many explores Spanish tell me the names please. Ah! Colombo, Portuguese, Fernão de Magalhães, Portuguese, Castilho, Portuguese, ok we gave something to Spain just they get something but they don`t was clever, they let the English and the French stolen the America, if the Portuguese wanted America it was Portuguese.

  • @forcadelta5 Cristobal colon era de genoves.

  • @egagu1976 não está provado.

  • Come on people, you are all fighting each other but it was none of you guys that achieved such great discoveries. It was your old people, Portugal and Spain had their part with the european exploration of the world. But there were too many disputes and wars, thats why all empires were lost. Now Portugal and Spain should be happy for their language and culture to be recognised around the world in many countries.

    E ainda a América etc.

  • The title must be only "Age of Discovery: Portugese Explorations" the spanish were in the age of the rock

  • . . .that was short !

  • @nicholasboyus what about when spain made the Incas slave ( and only few of them could live cuz you would kill most of them) what about the sugar plantations , wait there were no spanish people there working, ohh sorry it was your slaves ohhh and by the way portugal was the 1st or 2nd country in the world abolishing slavery so grow up will you?

  • Spanish...LOL

  • i dont now what this vid is called Spanish and Portuguese explorations if is only portugal who have done evrything

iberica no tempo do austraico Phillipe III-IV? So perdemos quase tudo por causa

  • Honestly portugal had his share of discovery, and ``glory´´ but besides that it´s always been under the shadow of Spain,it´s just a fact.

Lots more people speak spanish nowadays and also culture is more popular, except for Brasil.

  • @sergius666

    Thumbs up.

  • @sergius666 You dont can compare Spain (47 000 000 people) with Portugal (10 000 000 people). But for your information: It exist 382 000 000 people who speak spanish. Its a relation 1:8! But exist 210 000 000 people who speaks portuguese - a relation by 1:21!!! Its a world record;-)

  • @sergius666 what about moçambique? guine bissau? angola? macau? timor? and many more...

spanish culture is well know nowadays and they can thank the american's for that

  • We just want to put our country where it deserves to be, as Discoverer of the New World. And yet we're so much more than that..

  • Spain doesn't exist, if you know the country well you know what we're talking about.

They didn't know shit about navigation. How could they reach America with a genoese peasant? Maybe because he was not genoese nor peasant..

Same thing goes to Captain James Cook, if it wasn't his crew (portuguese) he would still be looking for Australia today.

But even if his crew was english and Columbus spanish, we had explorers there way before, namely Corte-Real and Cristovão de Mendonça.

  • Why Spain???????????????

  • @sergius666

The contrary happens too, although I don't hate Spain at all, I even like it very much.

    It's a very nice country.

Nevertheless there are hatters in both sides ;)

  • Yes you are right in that PortugalIV,you can find nice and ignorant people anywhere you go.I think Portugal is lovely too =)

  • The simple fact that you don't understand why the Portuguese pride themselves of the ages of discovery and have reluctance with anything Spanish is a strong indication that YOU know little to nothing about the history of the Iberian Peninsula. And I say Iberian Peninsula, because Portugal pre-dates Spain by a good enough number of centuries.

  • @skydark you got that right

  • Espanha nao hesiste!!!

  • I don't have to respect your point of view...

heel, I am a soldier, all I have to do is respect the truth and defend my familia, my friends and my patria.. don't tell what do I have to do... like I said, you don't know me. and about your "Spain", read what 5quinas74 said and think about it... say whatever you want now.. I have more important taskes to atend to now.. have a good life hispanic

  • Not much accurate documentary, as most of Portuguese knowledge came directly from the Order of Christ (formely known as Knights Templar). We knew already where Americas were and had much more details than this. Only the high ranked officers from the Order of Christ had access to old templar maps from the time while Outremer was in Christian possession. Non historical documentary.

  • No, you lost 5 battles in Restauration war. 1640-1668(when Spain capitulate and accept the situation). The war had more, but we are talking only about the 5 major battles.

    Its history, well documented history.

  • You enslaved us first in the "reconquista"and almorabids also exterminated many portuguese cities.

The fact is that you are no better,I would even say you are far more racist, primitive, cruel and barbaric than any other people on earth.

Slavery was a local tradition when we arrived,it was africans that gave us slaves,in exhange for weapons, for their huge amount of wars, that still today last.

Your African polititians are so good, that the normal people want portuguese/european rule again.

  • nicholasboyus:

I'm Portuguese and i never exploited anybody.

Do you still want me to die?

Go home and make love to your woman. Forget about all that hatred.

P.S. True love is the way. Heavy metal forever!!!!

  • hey idiot ,Slavery is older than history itself!!

England and France raped Africa of its people and also it's riches. Portuguese Monopoly in Africa only lasted at the most 100 years, and they were mainly shipped to Brasil.where as England and France they shipped em' to the rest of the Americas and lasted till' the 1800's.OHH

and don't forget the Ottoman Empire that had a slavery monopoly from Africa all the way to Greece. your an idiot.

  • Portugal had the first Medieval and Modern direct realations with South-Saharian Africa and Christianized the king of Congo and his tribes since 1480s - 1490s and treated the kingdom of Congo and its Embassadors as equals in dignity in a way not repeated by other Powers centuries after.

  • Portugal

Portugal saved Ethiopian civilisation(fundamental civilisation) from being destroyed in 1541-1545 with its Expeditionay Force leaded and commanded by Cristóvão da Gama which died as a Martyr as many of his companions in that war and many battles against Somali invasion and their Arab and Turkish allies that almost destroyed all of Abyssinia if was not Ethiopia-Portugal combinated force and Portuguese aid.

  • Spanish and Portugese Explorations????

    SPANISH EXPLORATIONS??????

    WTF?????

  • shut it, or I will personally leave Portugal and conquer whatever pittyfull country you leave in and colonize your ass, now bring me a caipirinha douchebag! :)

  • are you still talking?

    you're the baby!

  • it was spain who wanted to sign a peace contract with portugal when portugal where conquering spanish territory... so, sorry but shut up and go study history some more

  • ? what year what this,? ohh powerful historian master..i am not worth of you high intelectual mine????

  • that what i thought,,,you have no idea,,,about history and cant quote any of your so given history,,,,idiota

Speak spanish or english, you stuped portuguese shithead

  • look at you... talking trash about my patria, calling me stupid ( by the way, stupid it's with an "i" ) calling me a shithead when you don't even know me... it's easy talking trash like that when you're miles away from me... but that just reinforces what I just said previously... you are just a coward, a espanhol (which is the same thing) ..

  • when you become brave enough to face a soldier of Portugal like me, don't stop by the words, take actions.. but yet again, you are just a espanhol, you don't take actions... you just run and hide.

  • Vote on 7 of 27 wonders of portuguese origin all over the world :D Portugal was The First Global Nation on the Planet!

  • yea lol but what happen to them now....

  • well the wonders are still there standing tall, after the spanish, dutch french and english.A great example of resistence ;P Although I think that they should be better taken care, unfortunately. We have to rely on Foundations, who have done an Amazing Job almost without State Support.Regards

  • lol Before italians even think about discovering the new world,Vikings were there, and portuguese sailors too.For example Newfoundland and Labrador (bearing the name of his discoverer,João Fernandes Lavrador).Portuguese sailors new for years and years about the coast where they fished Cod in Canada...Before Marco Polo began his voyage to Tartaria,a comission of francs have been to China before him.Plus it IS with the Portuguese that the world began to be known as it well said in this video.

  • The Portuguese discoveries not only began the Globalization,as the trade routes spread from America to Africa and from Asia to Oceania,it was Global,as the meaning of the word,at a Globe Level.

  • It is thanks to the intrepid portuguese navigators and explorers that the fantastic discriptions and myths made early by others will be replaced by real discriptions of continents, presented by cartography, for instance.

  • Prince Henry start - He and his sailors are portuguese, sorry about that dear friend "spagetti"

Lusitanians(remember?), Portugals from Brazil and Labrador to Australasia and Japan by sea - 1420 to 1512.

And we have another history before about Brazil(1341) lye in vatican arquives by the way(and in English medieval poetry).

  • But SpanishCatholic,Micronesian Islands and Philipines where discovered by Fernão de Magalhães,a portuguese ;) Whithout his mission you would never gone there...

  • right, Fernando de Magallanes started the trip across the ocean, but it was Spaniard who intrepid know how avoided running into the Portuguese navy who taught of Asia as it own,,Sebastian de Elcano...look it up it is in youtube

  • Yes, but any way, When Magalhães arrive to Filipinas he complete, as Henrique, Carvalho etc. a entire voyage around the world.

Magalhães was in Malacca and Indonesia 9 years before in portuguese expeditions trought the west - east way.

Well, any way this video is about the first steps, almost 100 yares before Magellan, with Prince Henry supervision, wich culminate in the Columbus attempt and Vasco da Gama reaching finally to Asia by sea route.

  • One of the ships of the expedition was indeed captured by the Portuguese in Moluccas.

Also some spaniards and others of the crew also return to Spain via Goa to Lisbon as prisioners - Portuguese give them freedom at the end.

  • In this matter Portugal 10, Spain 0

  • Where are the spanish in this video???this video is only about portuguese.

lolol the spanish didn't went to asia, only the portuguese.

  • vey nice and productive in information .i will rate this highly

  • awesome!!!
