What about Heath Slater from WWE or Gunner from TNA Wrestling be a threat to Hiroshi Tanahashi? Slater is a former 3 time WWE Tag Team Champion as member of Nexus and Corre, and Gunner is a former TNA TV Champion also a member of Eric Bischoff's Immortal stable which was formally led by Hulk Hogan.
I could pick Daniel Bryan vs Hiroshi Tanahashi in a dream matchup. Also have Alberto Del Rio or Kofi Kingston go at it agains the Japanese wrestler. It would be a better matchup.
@21richkid No it wouldn't be. Tanahashi has more talent in his little finger than Barrett has in his entire body. He's not a good wrestler by a longshot. There are plenty of folks on the WWE roster who would put on a better match with Hiroshi Tanahashi than Wade Barrett.
@canucktheclown Instead, how bout Shelton Benjamin against Tanahashi? That should be a classic, Benjamin is a great technical wrestler and underrated. He may not have a good mic skills, no need for him if he went to NJPW.
@canucktheclown Sting in his WCW prime years would be great match with Tanahashi, also Too Cold Scorpio or Chris Benoit before the tragedy would be great.
@21richkid Why does it have to be guys who have worked in the mainstream at some point? By limiting the match ups to just mainstream guys, you are missing out on a plethora of possible matches.
@21richkid Again, why does it have to be guys who have been in the WWE? Samoa Joe has had a tryout match in the WWE. Jeff Hardy has been in the WWE and CM Punk is currently there.
@canucktheclown Douglas Williams could be a match against Tanahashi. He's never worked for the WWE, his wrestling career began in England his home country and wrestle in independent promotions prior to signing with TNA Wrestling.
@alex Probably is somewhere by now. And Wrestle Kingdom as far as I know is NJPW's big yearly event as well as a lot of other Japanese companies that appear at it as well. It is the largest yearly wrestling event I believe in the world since they fill the Tokyo Dome almost every year
Without a doubt, Japan is a country where know who is more important than know how. If the son of a wrestler who was featured widely there wanted a chance to wrestle, they would most certainly be given that chance. This is why Rikidozan's second son was in pro wrestling for years despite the fact that he was AWFUL!
If you recall, his old man was never a good talker, and he was pretty popular, Chris Benoit was never a great talker, and there are many more wrestlers that could not cut a promo, that had great careers.
actually if you did your research, his latest firing had nothing to do with his attitude. Also, if you watched more than his tribute videos, you would see that he is also a great technical wrestler.
Harry Smith looks like he will be a future WWE star if they don't fuck it up like they did with several others. I can see Harry and Paul Burchill making a monsterous tag team at some point!

@21richkid Yes, I know about Doug Williams. I seen one of his matches in NOAH and thought was he was amazing. It's too bad TNA can't show that.

Hmm, I'm still not impressed by Tanahashi...although I've only seen a couple of his matches so far.
I'll keep looking. Anyone want to suggest a good Tanahashi match that shows his strengths. I want to see the NJPW champ at his best.

I have respect for the 2nd, 3rd generation wrestlers that pay there dues inthe indies an all over the world before going to WWE or OVW.
Unlike Orton, that he got to OVW because of his dad. Orton is a good wrestler but I don't like how he got to the WWE
VanDam08 4 years ago
they still have an easier time getting to those places because of their names. But you are absolutely right.

Why the Hell is Harry Smith not on Monday Night RAW as Intercontinental Champion right now?
He is amazing!he shouldnt be on OVW right now.

Harry Smith is a pro. He's not a knucklehead like his cuz Teddy Hart.
rudymcgee 4 years ago
but teddy hart is a better all around wrestler, he has the same technical skills, he is a better high flyer, and has much better mic skills.

I hope not either. A very talented superstar. Third generation wrestler, after Stu Hart and his father. Possibly a main eventer.
Wrestlingprotector 4 years ago
Definitely a main eventer. He's almost 6'6 and 270lbs and can fly like a cruiserwight with great techinical moves.

I seem to recall that there was an awful run-in ending involving Shannon Moore that ruined what had been a great match.

One of the most confusing endings ever. Who pinned whom ?
SaitoShinigami 5 years ago
It ended as a time limit draw. The announcements were hard to hear, but it was in English saying how much time there was left.
