FOR PEOPLE HAVING AN ISSUE - There is two tweek pots on the laser on these drives. One pot is for adjusting the laser for reading DVDs and the other is for reading GAMES. Each of these pots can be adjusted ever so slightly, as so gives the laser more power to read a game, as these often require some adjustment............THIS is when your Original game is being read as a DVD or Unrecognised disk.

actually kind of a funny story, i got so pissed cuz it said play dvd that i beat the shit out of my xbox slim and i hit the grill play where the fan get's all the air out and it broke a piece inside on a grill plate right above the fan and it was rattling like a jet so i took that piece out and now im back to square 1 again.

Interesting, the issue of "laser Burn" is caused by moving the console while the disk is still spinning. If it thinks there is a DVD in there it will keep the disk spinning. So when you flip up your console you risk "laser Burning" the disk.

If you have replaced a broken DVD drive with a new one you will also get this same error. What you have to do is open your xbox then open your DVD drive and take out the board in it. Your DVD drive and your console have matching keys and and brand new drive won't even work. If you take the board out if the old drive and switch it with the one in your working drive it will fix this. This only works if you get this screen with a new DVD drive. Has to be same model DVD drive as well.

@Unknown95Person if this didnt help then the only other thing you can do is buy new cables for the disk drive which would probably lead you to buying a new drive entirely so i think a better more permanent fix would be just buying a new xbox.

@MegaCvita yeah, turning it upright helped a couple times, but not for long. I figured the disk drive was wearing out. I'm just trying to delay the inevitable (getting a new 360). Right now some CPR above the disk drive will sometimes work, haha.

For example, some stupid ISO went around that you could supposedly burn to a DVD and play it on your console and it would flash all the IDs to unban your console. Suprise suprise, that video that was edited to look real and so called "proof" caused a million people to waist a disk, and time to download and burn the ISO... because it looks real at first then rick rolls you.

The bottom line is if this happened to you and this does not work u did this.... you were playing your game and your xbox tipped over... it made a terrible noise ... if you notice theres a big scratch ring around the outer side of the disk.. that is why it says play dvd idk why

@LilCal92 Disc Drives are Hardcoded to the xbox it came from so if you want to swap disc drives you have to swap the disc drive motherboard not that hard to do there is a video about it to Type in How to Swap a Phillips Disc Drive to a BENQ and it should show some videos

The issue I had is that I couldn't play two games in a row. If I played for a while then switched games it would only recognize the disk as a DVD. The turning upright solution probably won't work for everyone, but it did work for me. (I also took it apart and cleaned it but that did not solve the issue). Thanks for suggesting this easy temporary fix.
