I have a degree in special education. I never use the words disability, always abilities and differences. We are all different and unique. We all have special gifts. On many IEPs students with special needs are removed from art and music so they can focus on math and reading. This is a shame. For many students in special ed they shine in arts and music. It always broke my heart as a teacher to see a student lose their "specials" for reading and math.

I kind of felt sorry for the other kid(patrick's brother) I mean with the dad away at Patrick's games and college when does he ever get attention? and then being compared to patrick for getting a bad grade on a test and not giving it his all like patrick It must be tough. Then again maybe not and i'm wrong either way thats just my opinion.
@germanprojectper4 very good observation... my older son is and notices that he has lost much attention from me after his little brother came around and I found myself in a seriously emotionally crippling (for me) custody battle with the younger child and inadvertantly made my younger child my favorite and I am beginning to notice it more ... This is confirmed because I asked everyone close to us if they felt I favored my younger son and they all agreed. Yikes! Hope to remedy the situation!

And many children with very supporting and loving parents sometimes turn out poorly, making bad choices and wrecking their lives. I think it takes the perfect combination of many things: the genes / brain you are born with, the challenges you face, family, life circumstances, wise choices, and a fair amount of luck to hold it together.
He is an inspiration. His parents are also. So many would have stuck him in an institution or not had the ability, patience, love ect... to see this was there in their child.

My band director put this on our website and its absolutely amazing. Patrick is such an inspiration to all musicians out there and also to people who have disabilities. Patrick reaches for the stars as well as his father and boy did they hit more then stars they hit a different galaxy. He is truly an inspiration to me. I had two surgeries this year and I thought my marching band career was over but he truly showed me that anything is possible
