@MrRickywallace No perfect pitch. He didnt know how to read music either. That goes to show that one can learn "where" each pitch is (frequency wise, color wise), memorize it, build the skills to manipulate it and then reproduce the music that is around you, your own way. What a inspiration Garner is, not only musically...
Wise up people, he's messin' with your mind! He's hitting those off-notes on purpose! Makes you listen even more closely, doesn't it? The man was simply brilliant, and he put those little flubs in there, just to mess with you! Besides, perfection is for fools and charlatans. Human beings are imperfect!
Oh man, how glad I am that I found this video again! This is too beautiful to be described with words. I am literally crying because it's so great! I love this stuff!
Actually, it is not the piano out of tune. This is the genius of Garner. He played the piano this way: the right hand is out of beat to the left hand, it could be a tempo ahead or behind. Only a genius can do this. It is live having two separate brains. Also, Garner never learned to read nor write music. It is a genius like very few, including the classicals. I listen to him for ever and never get tire, as I listen to his genius. God Bless him, up in
it seems the piano is out of tune, but I believe is the great Erroll just exercizing the so called blue notes (sharp and flat), a usual technique among the jazz pianists.
Did he have perfect pitch or what?

Only about 3 000 views in a year? Seriously? This would deserve 300 million views!

What you say about Garner is right, but the piano is still out of tune.

the word "genius" is overused. Garner is one of the very few who deserves to be called "genius".
