It's funny how you take things in second time around. I didn't chuckle once, this time. But, what I think caused me to chuckle the first time was-- after he stated papers said he was suffering from sexual perversion, he said he was okay with being considered a sexual pervert, but wasn't sure he was suffering from it. Yes, I'm sure that's what made me chuckle, cause I wanted to smile as I key the comment in. Thanks!
@crazytogab That one still always makes me chuckle as well. In the film, the courtroom audience laughs out loud about it. But at the same time, it's sad and poignant, because Quentin Crisp gets beat up on the street for being what he is.
@crazytogab So true. The real Quentin Crisp even said that his fight was much more about the right to express one's individuality than sexual freedom.
Great job! I've been a fan of John Hurt since the 70's, so I loved every moment of it (well, maybe except the horror film). I'm glad there were a couple of scenes from "Sinful Davey" as well, I remember I was 8 or 9 year old when I saw it, and I literally fell in love with him.
@Vispateresa3 Thank you, very kind of you. I've watched everything I came across with him ever since I can remember, but I don't remember which film I saw first! I don't like horror films in general either, but monsters of one kind or another have been a signature feature of Hurt's career, ALIEN is excellent for its genre and downright iconic, FRANKENSTEIN is quite charming for a Corman film, ELEPHANT is very touching ... so I felt that they had to be in it.
@StathisQauid Seriously, the man has made so many films that I doubt anyone has seen them all (at least I haven't), but even the bad ones are usually worth seeing for his sake.
@StathisQauid It's really strange that his name is Hurt, because even though he can play almost anything, it's true that suffering is something that he portrays particularly well. Nomen est omen. He has said that favorite roles of his are SCANDAL and LOVE AND DEATH ON LONG ISLAND (I like both, but the latter a bit better). Favorites of mine are THE HIT, ALIEN, 10 RILLINGTON PLACE, 1984 (many would agree on those), FROM THE HIP, KING RALPH (they polarize, perhaps because they are comedies).
@StathisQauid Oh yes, BRAZIL is a must-see. Why wasn't John Hurt in that one? LOL And check out the music vids "Attitude" (Suede) and "Take It Away" (Paul McCartney)! Some list, huh?
@StathisQauid THE NAKED CIVIL SERVANT, I CALIGULA and THE ELEPHANT MAN are great overall and wonderful acting achievements, but personally I prefer to see him without so much costume. I also enjoyed ROB ROY and FRANKENSTEIN UNBOUND very much, even though they aren't artistic milestones. NIGHT TRAIN is very nice, 44 INCH CHEST has fantastic moments. MIDNIGHT TRAIN has a great performance, as does CHAMPIONS, but seeing him suffer THAT much is tough to take.
@StathisQauid With me it's the other way round - I prefer historical epics to horror, but there are exceptions. Hurt and Roth make a great team in ROY (also in HIT), that's enough for me. As Hurt said, someone who isn't touched by ELEPHANT is not someone he would want to know. I love the concept of UNBOUND, and that Hurt plays a leading role and almost a romantic hero for once! And hey, it's Corman's last film ... doesn't quite work though, difficult to say why.
This is a great montage! Thank you for making it!

@Agugasek It is from THE SHOUT (with Alan Bates, in the scene before).

@aplantage When one doesn't run with the herd, one becomes a visible target to predators as prey.

Another interesting study. This one brought a chuckle, and a yuck! :)

@crazytogab I imagine that ALIEN was the "yuck", but what was the chuckle, in particular?
