What they fail to mention is that the n54 engine (135i) makes 300 peak torque at 1500 rpm, which is considered almost instantaneous. Pretty much means you get full power anywhere in the powerband which is ideal for daily driving situations.

Drive a 135i and you will have the biggest smile on your face. You really feel the 300 tq at 1500 rpm. Even the auto tranny has paddles and it's shifts really fast as well. It also rev matches when you down gear. The dct is not that much faster.
Too bad they forgot to tell you that the N54 turbo six in the Bimmer will blow up in your face, well not literally but the HPFP issue alone is enough to skip any Bimmer with that engine unless you feel like parking your car at the stealership on a regular basis.

The Evo X-MR with the tc-SST( paddle shift automatic tranny )is slower than the Evo X-GSR-manual transmission..... if your looking to get the Evo X... go with the GSR.
@princeofroyalty2 that's not true. The MR transmission is a manual with a automatic gear shifter. The MR shifts faster than the standard gear box b/c the computer does the work for you. Plus you get a extra gear with the MR over the GSR. Anyway, performance with the MR is the same as the GSR.

.94g for the 135i and .99g for the Evo (GSR) aren't even close enough to compare. The brakes on a single stop of the 135i aren't even close to the Evo's Brembo's that can handle that stop-after-stop. They compared the cars based on 'its ok at the track" not butt-kicking, and they obviously have sensitive butts if they like the smoothness of the Bimmer enough to not simply LOVE the Evo. There's no comparison, the 135i is simply a road only car.

the only reason evo x is getting good track times is because of the all wheel drive system and i believe it has a shorter wheel base, but dont get me wrong evo x's and subaru's are great cars i'd drive one anyday, but i think the Germans refine their cars a bit more

Evo for me. Ive had an eclipse for 7 years, never got it serviced and it runs like new, has its share of dents though lol. When I graduate from school in a year I'm heading to the mitsubishi dealer. I don't care about brand recognition, thats not why you buy an evo.
a main point is being missed. A BMW is a sports LUXURY car. Hence, it will be coomfortable and practical on a day to day basis. The Evo is a 4 door sports car. My brother has the 08 Evo MR and its heaps comfy to drive in, change the exhaust piping from 3 inch to 4 inch and get a drop in the filter and an ECU upgrade and ur getting a cheap extra 100 Hp out of it making it faster then that BMW ( not dissing the Beema) but i think Evo is much more practical and is a quicker car all round.

For 1, the topic of American cars isn't even related. For 2, I don't understand how these people get off by saying American cars are crap. For every Japanese and European car there's an American one that will meet or beat any rival from over seas. Evo'? Cobalt SS TC, SRT-4 and now Taurus SHO. BMW? CTS-V, Charger SRT-8. 3teethleft you dont seem to understand the 135i is tuned down because it doesnt need to push the turbo's or the engine. Take a look at Dinan and Vsihnu if you want to see what its capable of(with minimal modification), 11s in the 1/4th mile and 0-60 in the high 3's.

@Diddies3000 I considered both cars when I was car shopping. Both are around 300hp, both cars are about the same price, both handle well. I picked the 135i, better engine, better looks, more practical (EVO's turning radius is just stupid.) Also, the 135i doesn't get any attention, I had 2 different idiots in Subarus try to race me while test driving the EVO.

Who cares? If you like the car that's all that should matter. I owned an SRT-4 andf loved it. People bash it non-stop. And it will never be in a class with the EVO, STI or 135i. Nor will my SS Turbo. But I love the SS and loved the SRT and I would own one of those over any of these any day. Dig what you dig and fuck everyone else.

the only reason evo x is getting good track times is because of the all wheel drive system and i believe it has a shorter wheel base, but dont get me wrong evo x's and subaru's are great cars i'd drive one anyday, but i think the Germans refine their cars a bit more

You cant fault it because it has awd, that like someone else faulting the bmw for having a larger engine and having more power and torque. A car is a car and it has what it has as long as its standard equipment and similar price, its all fair.

yeah your probably right, its kind of under powered for its weight so the awd helps it get better times. I think that the states should offer the FQ400 version, i believe it is better balanced in terms of power and handling.

Evo for me. Ive had an eclipse for 7 years, never got it serviced and it runs like new, has its share of dents though lol. When I graduate from school in a year I'm heading to the mitsubishi dealer. I don't care about brand recognition, thats not why you buy an evo.

a main point is being missed. A BMW is a sports LUXURY car. Hence, it will be coomfortable and practical on a day to day basis. The Evo is a 4 door sports car. People who buy it don't buy it to have a nice, quiet comfy ride. They buy it to have fun and enjoy doing things in that car that not many other cars can do. The Evo is capable of putting up a fight against supercars around the track.. I doubt the BMW is capable of that. If you want a car that is FUN to drive....The Evo is the one

My brother has the 08 Evo MR and its heaps comfy to drive in, change the exhaust piping from 3 inch to 4 inch and get a drop in the filter and an ECU upgrade and ur getting a cheap extra 100 Hp out of it making it faster then that BMW ( not dissing the Beema) but i think Evo is much more practical and is a quicker car all round.

I won't spend $50k on a pos car. For less than half as much, I could get a Miata and put a LS1 on it. Not only would it look better than a corvette, but it would destroy the $80k z06. I can agree with a majority of this but seriously...an LS1 in a miata...................that's stupid. LS1's are cramped enough in S13's and a miata is way smaller. That's just dumb.
And also, power is useless if you don't have the proper suspension and the amount of grip necessary to put the power to the ground. LS1 is nice in a light car...but useless if you can't even put the power down. A corvette would still win(P.S. I HATE CORVETTES)

For 1, the topic of American cars isn't even related. For 2, I don't understand how these people get off by saying American cars are crap. For every Japanese and European car there's an American one that will meet or beat any rival from over seas. Evo'? Cobalt SS TC, SRT-4 and now Taurus SHO. BMW? CTS-V, Charger SRT-8. There is no doubt that American cars are competitive and far exceed many manufacturers overseas.

Considering the fact that I have seen Cobalts take down Evo's. Yeah, I would say that it's quite possible. Evo's and STI's really arn't what people hype them up to be. They're nice, but for the money you'll save from buying either one, you can put more goodies on a SS.

Take both cars, stock, out to any track. Ive driven both and quite honestly enjoyed them both very much. The EvoX is more expensive, while the SS is better value it cannot keep up with the evo on a track.
Sure you can hop up an SS to beat an evo x, no problem. Irrelevant to what you're arguing, however.
Evo's are hyped up, but keep in mind there is some truth to that hype. Both are good cars but don't let your bias distract you from seeing the cars how they are.

Edmunds dyno test 135i - 285HP/291TQ to the wheels. The engine is rated at 300HP and 300TQ on the 135i and it manages to put all of that power to the wheels. Damn, thats nuts!

They are both under 50 grand and they are both turbo charged. Thats the only comparison here. One is a German "luxury" car, the other is a Japanese tuner. One is a coupe, and one is a sports sedan. Big differences here.

JDM MR version has 330HP and much better suspension than this USDM shit I saw in this video(the car handles like a boat on the sea). Power is nothing, Torque is that thing that gives a car acceleration and top speed. How about a compare betwen Japan in-line 6 + turbo with other in-line 6+(even)twinturbo... 3teethleft you dont seem to understand the 135i is tuned down because it doesnt need to push the turbo's or the engine. Take a look at Dinan and Vsihnu if you want to see what its capable of(with minimal modification), 11s in the 1/4th mile and 0-60 in the high 3's.

Could not agree more... Jap cars are boring, my dad owns two Toyota's both are vary reliable but have no excitement. The Japanese are not vary original in the power train or body design, they are vary good at improving reliability within the automotive industry. The one series is a great marketing idea. BMW now competes directly with rice
