To be honest i think they got what was coming to them. It cruel to exploit wild animals, and jupiter had prob had enough. just wish he had got Ron too. a trio of total wierdos
I hardly ever cry and never because of a film but I couldn't help myself with this one for some reason. That poor man. I hope he makes it to Thailand.
Just saw this here in the UK. Touching story..would've been nice if the film makers/directors interviewed other people who were close to them & knew them at the time so we could hear someone else side of the story, maybe Chuck or Joy had a close friend they confided in, willing to be interviewed?
I feel sorry for Ron. He lost the two people he cared most about. Even though I don't agree with his work with big cats, he didn't deserve that and Joy and Chuck didn't deserve to lose their lives. I hope Ron can find some inner-peace.
HEY ASSHOLE. Thats my aunt and uncle. AND THEY LOVED THOSE CATS. You should of seen thier cages, they had thier own pools and huge man made jungles for them. They even let some of them sleep in thier own beds and walk around the house. My aunt and uncle did not deserve to die the way they did. HOW DARE YOU!
I met Ron and Joy many years ago - in Edmonton Alberta. They asked me to shoot a Publicity picture for them - (I was the pro photographer for the Exhibition). The Cat strained to come down to me when Joy did her "spotlight bow". The cat had shown affection for me earlier in the day. I treasure the photo I have and treasure the friendship of Ron and Joy. I hope I will someday have the memory of the tragedy erased.
I totally agree... I watched the documentary several times and I came to the same conclusion. It was a beautiful relationship until Chuck and Joy started spending time together (alone) without Ron. Jealous set in and he plotted to have them killed. Very Sad!!!
I just watched Cat Dancers from start to finish (had DVRed it), and immediately turned to the Net to find more. I thought it was a compelling story, and a tragic one. The hostile comments attacking Ron for his decisions to put the cats down sadden me as much as the fact that he had to put the cats down.
i think that cat knew joy was sick and drunk. she starved herself! it was jupiters instinct to kill her because he knew she was sick. thats what wild animals do to other sick animals, they kill them. very sad story.
I think I saw this act at Clementon Amusement Park in New Jersey in 1998 or so. It was a blond woman doing the tricks with an assistant or two. I thought at the time that I hoped they knew what they were doing, because the cages they used seemed pretty flimsy and I wondered if we were safe. It seemed like a home-made lion taming show, and for that reason risky. Did anyone else ever actually see this act in person? And the film is fascinating- and creepy.
Why keep a WILD animal in the first place just for some entertainment, why let the animal suffer just because some greedy people saw nothing but green when looking at them. I have to say yes I cried, yes it was sad, BUT I was still angry that poor Jupiter and the other cats where made into a circus act.
I was thinking the same thing when I watched it the other night for the third time, the deaths seemed planned. He was angry about the white tiger not responding to him along with his wife and Chuck. Then Chuck dies and his wife does not want to eat anymore then dies after that. Then the agreement was who last lived would let the animals die naturally. You put them to sleep. They should have never been placed into cages to begin with!!!!!!!!!
Why did Ron let Jupiter live after he'd tasted human blood?! And why drag his frail, grieving wife out there to see the animal that had killed a man she loved so dearly just so she could die too?! This show was so bizarre!! This was a really weird love triangle!!
from my understanding he has a strong respect for animals as well as liking. Personally from understanding as well their act was great, but to much pressure to get a white tiger shook up the act. I agree the white tiger should not have been in the act after that first attack. But most animals hate the taste of human blood, but that's not to say they wont finish what they attack.
No offense to the animal lovers but theres a difference between loving an animal and being so obsessed with them that you have to integrate them in every part of your life specifically wild animals. Personally I find nothing entertaining about these types of shows and dont support it because wild animals need to be KEPT in the wild. Honestly if you really love these animals, let them be themselves and stop trying to domesticate them. sad and creepy documentary.
your real jerk you no that the least you can do is be quiet this guy lost his hole family weather what he did was wrong or not jees got of your get of your golden tower miss animal rights
When Ron Holiday described how Jupiter chose Chuck over him, he sounded very angry and jealous. Personally, I think he had Jupiter murder both of them, like hankied and squid already said.
I agree. Ron Holiday is a narcissistic creep. I truly doubt that Ron was bisexual or that Chuck, so attractive and young, was in a sexual threesome with people over twice his age. When Joy was killed, she was legally drunk--two times over the limit. And Ron was holding the tiger's lead both times. I think he killed them both. And...animal acts like this are insane. Big cats will kill.
It seems like the love triangle went bad. He seemed jealous of the cat picking Chuck over him and Joy picking Chuck over him. Too convenient that the cat did it. I am with you hankied . Joy and Chuck didnt want the white tiger and he talked them into it and then had the tiger kill them. Thats what seems obvious to me. He just doesnt seem right in the head.
Watched this... The first thing that bothered me was Ron's STUPID wig collection. Then, I got to thinking. How do we know that Joy's death was an accident? Chuck's death probably went exactly as they said. But why would he have Joy come out to help feed the cats, knowing she was drunk? That's just setting up the 'accident', if you ask me. Inbreeding has nothing to do with it. Tigers are WILD ANIMALS!! And funny that everything Ron says is taken for truth when there's no one left to corroborate.
I cried. It had glamor, intrigue, a risqué love story - and a breathtaking glimpse of the dangerous and beautiful love affair people have with big cats. An amazing piece of history from the show biz world that shouldn't be missed.
Everyone who saw this documentary, do you know what the name of the song was the played over and over again throughout the show?
There were no words to it, it just sounded like something that came out of a music box. It was very pretty, and fit the mood perfectly to this documentary.
I saw the HBO documentary last night at a public place... I was in tears all the way to the end. It was a great story with a very sad ending. Can't wait to see it again.
This is is the most fascinating true story I've ever seen on television. Grotesquely comical, tragic and bizarre. Please watch it ...

I notice many asking what the song was at the end. I too came on looking to see who recorded that.
I happened to catch this film at 4 in the morning. Interesting but creepy, especially Ron in appearance and actions. Both deaths seemed suspect.
