  • Poor Lars, if he wasn't so lazy, could be one of the best drummers today.

  • @oldmarcussales Soooooooooooooooooooo true! =(

  • 1:52, 2:32, 2:44... Dave, wtf are you doing lol

  • Lars should listen to this so he can reaction because now he doesn't even play the double bass in this song

  • I love that when Dave kicked off, James and Kirk actually had to quickly kick it up and play faster to catch up to him! I can imagine Dave said to himself, FOR 20 FUCKIN' YEARS IVE LISTENED TO HIM BUTCHER THIS. THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE PLAYED.

  • Lars is back!

    /watch?v=RkZ8kp8xNlM

  • @thebogeymaniscoming Who cares? :)

  • Lars is not the best drummer, you say he can't do lots of things, but I answer that for what he plays, his skills are more than enough.

  • good to know im not the only who thinks Lars sucks

  • @MrTjlicious You're incorrect. Lars Ulrich from birth to about 1993 didn't suck - he kicked arse, you need only watch the Seattle concert DVD to know how fucking good he was, and how fast and hard he went at the skins. Battery from that video just tears my face off. Then he discovered he could still make money without killing himself behind the kit. Now we have the current 'drummer' of Metallica. Bullshit to that. He has fallen so far from grace.

  • @AChildOfBodom667 Thats what you call a sell out

  • I do have to admit it is nice to actually here that double bass again. That 80s Lars has to be in present day Lars somewhere.

  • Hardcore Metallica fan here, and no offense to one of my favorite bands, but it sounds like the 'Tallica boys can barely keep up with Dave, fuckin guy is a beast

  • It just goes to show: Lars ain't as good as Dave, Kirk isn't technically as acomplished as Marty Friedman or Nick Skolnick, James isn't the best vocallist going, but Metallica are the "best" or at least he most popular because the song writing and individual parts are the most memorable.

  • Lars drums got raped by Dave Lombardo.....and I say raped because Lars doesn't play fast anymore

  • james voice sucks here

  • god damn battery had great double bass to begin with but dave made it even better.

  • Mr dave lambardo is fucking awesome.. coz battery aint an easy song .. definitely not a song that easy to learn in a few hours... Dave is epic

  • I wanna see Dave do Dyers Eve.. D:

  • @Reapex1 would be AWESOME!

  • man... i love lars... but he is kinda tired to play this with double bass ....

  • It's pretty cool when you watch all the other vids from this concert where Hetfield sounds crap and he sounds like a beast on this!

  • Lars is more well than dave at the seattle '89 ...

  • Yeah, yeah.

    Lombardo is dbest thrash drummer.

Lars is an overrated sellout who sucks at drums and anyone who thinks he is amazing at Justice album needs to know that he was using studio effects and drum machine during recording. If you study music or play instument you can even hear he never nails any live performances.

P.S Lars doesnt write songs, Lombardo does.

The only thing Lars does better then Dave is geting more money.

  • @Chester1004 ummmm r u dumb kid lombardo has nevr wrote a slayer song in his life the ones that do r jeff kerry and tom dave has nevr wrote a song in his life but i do agree with u on the lars thing :P

  • Comment removed

  • @Chester1004 ok 1 ur not my fuckin english teacher 2 i can spell howevr the fuck i want its called freedom of speech u dont like it go fuck urself and 3 sorry i misconstruded on what u said next time be a little more specific dumb shit and it still doesnt matter about his side projects he doesnt contribute to shit u fuck up all he does is play the drums and thats it he doesnt write shit so for writing music id pick lars over dave anyday of the week

  • Comment removed

  • @Chester1004 hahahaha ur so pathetic seriously dude like ur sitting on ur fat ass telling me to learn how to spell yeh ok like what the fuck is "look on the playground on the the internet" like r u crying on the other end of all this like honestly get a life u miserable fuck and go back to community college that u probly to dumb to fuckin pass and i also want to u to look up all of metallicas songs and tell me how many lars has wrote(and i dont mean lyrics i mean him also writing sheet music)

  • @pgriff69

You started to flame and insult me and your telling me to get a life?

Yes i misspeled i wanted to say: look for fight on the playground not on the internet.

Lars doesnt do anything, the only reason why he is having credit on almost every fucking song is because of his suggestions. Do you honestly think he can write a song? He cant even play drums right.

  • @Chester1004 i agree that Lars ulrich is not a great drummer...... but he has written many metallica songs... check out the making of the songs on the albums.... Black album or even death magnetic

  • @max81990

He is giving suggestions and he is editing, he is not writing anything.

  • @Chester1004 him and james do must of the writing

  • It's funny how it really doesn't sound like Metallica without Lars. Still great however.

  • Its lovely to hear metallica songs with double bass. FUCKING AWESOME! :)

  • @Zarnity you mean, Metallica with double bass AS IT WAS ON THE ALBUM! I hate Lars 'I'm to rich to care about cutting corners' Ulrich.

  • @Zarnity Lars does DB too on this song, your argument is invalid.

  • @ImKevin15 I meant live, I know he does it on the studio version, but not ALWAYS when they play live.

  • @eety87 in 1983-1997 he was very good

  • Hetfield is awfull Live singer... Love the album but i dont want to hear Hetfield ever to sing live.

  • @eety87 He doesn't have the same voice he once had, just look up any song from the 1989 seattle concert on here.

  • @Dangardify I can tell its dave because he can use his double bass properly

  • Sound pretty good

  • i was there..shit man i get hairs standing on end when i see this video, unexpected dream come true that day. thentwo years later, same place, the 20th anniversary of Master of Puppets..full album all the way through..immense. best day of my life.

  • Nice to hear Metallica with a real drummer.

  • Lars Ulrich is a very competent drummer. Dave Lombardo is a drumming virtuoso.

  • @ChrisY2JJ

there is bad drumming, good drumming and amazing drumming. and there is Dave Lombardo

  • @dresio666 Absolutely! Lombardo is a master of his instrument.

  • @Rokenbok300

my guess is that you never cared to find out what lombardo was doing when he left slayer...

  • Comment removed

  • Dave in his prime is/was great....:Lars is ;Lars...Metallica and Slayer both beat ass....Who the fuck cares listen to the song and shut up....No one cares........

  • That's a beautiful first photo no?

  • the truth is dave lombardo is abetter drummer and he is my drumming idol, but you cant say lars suck i mean dyers eve double bass was pretty damn awesome and the and justice for all album lars did alot of technical beats. overall lars is a creative musician and he knows business to make himself wealthy as for dave he can do so many things at the drum that lars can't do, all in all both are respectable musicians.

  • @cmsasuke17 yea man, I totally agree with you. Dave is one of the best drummers, but lars have made good music also, even if it doesn't have much double bass

  • @cmsasuke17 Amen to every word, brother!!!

  • @cmsasuke17 lars only created that rythm, but never played it. lars doesnt play dyers eve with double bass and he NEVER played it live. just google it, there isn't neither one record of metallica playing dyers eve till 21. century.

  • have you ever heard tighter metallica in live concert? Lombardo sure can hold the pace and keep in rhythm,Lars is usually all over the place with his drumming. Well..all props to lars though, being the founding member of the greatest metal band ever

  • Better drummer: Lombardo

    Better overall musician: Lars

  • holy balls love both bands but man only if tallica had dave my god hes a beast

  • K everyone, it's not that lars isnt allowed to mistakes, but he does consistently EVERY CONCERT and he never does the double bass fills in songs such as battery or ffwf. What dave just did was almost triple bass because of how fast the tempo of the song was. so even if dave makes a mistake or two he sure doesn't show it but Lars does it every fucking song so we all see it and chirp him for it. Dave>Lars. Nuff said.

  • 3:37-3:53...drooool thats so fast its almost triple bass XD..How Lars use to play it back in and before 1989. Oh man.

  • @DeanVX05 yea but his voice is back. from st anger till around 2008 his voice wasnt powerful at all

  • i think lars was better than dave in their primes, but lars has dropped off much more than dave at this point in their careers

  • @liveandletrock864 dave was always better

  • @keili1212 i dissagree

  • @MotorbreathRR great question and answer

  • Dave did what a featuring drummer in a band has to do...just keep time, do nothing fancy and HE ACED IT!. Sorry Lars and Joey fans, but Dave just out plays them both, he is solid in this song, and just because he is filling in for lars, IT DOESN'T MEAN HE HAS TO PLAY EXACTLY LIKE LARS. .......NUFF SAID!

  • @mattmanRTL This discussion is very stupid - Dave Lombardo is the better drummer, period

  • I love Dave Lombardo on this song hes a beast ANGEL OF DEATH !!!

  • ulrish sucks!

  • How did they learned the songs in such short notice?

  • Metallica gets to play with a master drummer

SWEET A PURE ESSENCE OF SLAYER THERE USING!

  • for me: 1 ullrich (the good ulrich of 1980 was really fast and melodic), 2 lombardo, 3 jordison (he is faster than lass and dave but i think hes not so melodic).

  • @MrTxutxi you clearly dont know about drumming , you do play drums? i dont think so, cuz if you would play drums you would know that jordison is not an awesome durmmer and lars sucks , lars sucked before and he sucks even more now , joey jordison is the most overrated drummer EVER! he is not that good , and dave is way better than both of them in all ways .

  • Kirk and James struggled to keep up with Dave here, you can hear it.

  • Dave is the same fucking age as Lars is and how can he play faster then Lars and Lars has to slow down I mean come on now

  • So...This is how the song was supposed to sound huh?...Thanks alot Lars, Metallica should have been Dave's side project back in 83' FTW \m/

  • BATTERY! FUKIN BATTERY GO

  • honestly i must say, that there are to much crachs in Daves drumming with hi-hat it sounds much better

  • Dave Lombardo kicks serious ass!! Killer!

  • Dave pwns Lars,Just listen to any Slayer Album.(Well not the ones without him)oh and Paul bostahp kick lars ass too

  • @TailGunner01 sure double bass is key for thrash metal....but Dave missed several fills and queues during this song. (Yes I know he did it on the spot, but Joey Jordison didn't have any problems) Put Dave in straight double bass and a straight rhythm he can play fast for hours....as can most other drummers. Lars adds the element of musicality to his drum parts. Overall, Lars takes the crown...hence why Metallica is where they are and Slayer is where they are.

  • @spiderbonegy well i guess creeping death is a bit easier than battery but well im not a drummer (you seem to be one). i dont think that lars sucks as many ppl say but dave seems to be better, maybe lars is the better theorical drummer but when it comes to performance i think daves better

  • they should've practice a litle more

  • So cool how everyone stepped up to the plate for Lars/Metallica. Must have been awesome for both sides.

  • tailgunner01 has more green thumbs than tonythemeatball. Dave is better i concur.

  • man lars needs to practice more on his double bass, maybe he should use more techniques,

  • @dannywiskey13 let me tell you, double bass is not technique

  • @hayabus111a if it isn't technique then you go ahead and put a video on youtube of yourself playing some 16th note double bass, and in time mind you. Fuck you it's not a technique, it's something that takes amazing amounts of practice to perfect, THEREFORE, a technique dickstick.

  • Dave is the greatest metal drummer of all time! no one will top him! he is KING!

  • lars is the only professionaldrummer who don't know how to play.

  • Where in this video you can hear that it isn't lars playing?

  • @Villex93 theres video of this, at download 2004, lars went to the hospitle for his back or something, dave lobardo and joey jordinson helped out. and this drumming sound nothing like lars anyway.

  • Holy fuck dave kicks ass

  • i wish Dave was on metallica actually that was fukin nice

  • lizten closely, @ 4:46, James and Kirk cant keep up with Dave.

  • @dannywiskey13 they are perfectly in time

  • Lars must have felt embarrased after he listened this

  • man i wish that lars used to play like back in the 1980's, he was very good, but i still respect lars now till this day, hes one of my inspirations. \m/

  • this is seriously the fastest this song has ever been played at

  • @pippimaxim

Nope Seattle '89 is far faster.

  • he was great in his day justice album says it all, but then he reducedthe size of his drum kit and his style changed a bit now he does loads of drum rolls and little base kicks

  • Lars used to tear shit up back in 88-89, but nowadays, he's pretty lazy.

  • @peaceandmetal88 Lazy? try to play 18 songs at 47 years old you fucking douchebag

  • @CORNHOLIOBEAVIS123 That's uncalled for, and a bit childish. I understand he's 47 years old, that's great. Dave Lombardo is 45 years old and still performs at the same level he did over 20 years ago. You have a serious anger problem.

  • @CORNHOLIOBEAVIS123 Dave Lombardo does. Nicko Mc Brain does. Many drummers do it. You have to accept that Lars is Lazy and James and Kirk can't keep up with Dave because they have become lazy for the way Lars plays. Sorry for my bad english.

  • @CORNHOLIOBEAVIS123 Dave is only two years younger and still performs with Slayer like it was taking a shit for him... Tom Hunting of Exodus is older than Lars and still plays twice as fast... Age doesn't matter. If you're suffering serious back problems like Paul Bostaph, well that's another story.

  • best live metallica drumming ever? yes i think so

  • Trujillo : Cliff = Lars : Lombardo

  • Lmfao 3:52!!

  • Yeah, Dave is better, but I love Lars. He's not the best, but he's my favourite drummer and favourite guy on the planet :D

  • If Lars wanted the song to be that fast and with that much double-bass, he would've done it on the original song. All Dave has proven is that he's faster and uses the double-bass more often that says nothing for either Lars and Dave's skill levels as they have different styles. Lars probably never found all that double-bass to be necessary as it does not go along with the guitars and singing as rhythmically as Lars plays it. I'll it say one last time, speed and double-bass doesn't make you good.

  • @BRYANT155555 you got it!! at least a person in the whole world understand the true meaning of the music!! keep rocking!!

  • @BRYANT155555 if you really listen hard to the song on the master of puppets album, he actually does play it that way. seriously, it's the only way i knew that the double bass part was comming up

  • omg.

Lars, PLEASE FUCKING PRACTICE. THAT SOUNDED SO AMAZING. LARS COULD PULL IT OFF.

  • I got respect for Lars, but Dave is alot better

  • I think James, Kirk and Rob, that night felt playing thrash againg with that drummers.

They should be regret about not playing more energic songs like Damage Inc or Dyers Eve.

  • Holy shit, you guys are stupid. Dave played Lars' own song better than Lars? How the fuck is that even possible? And I'd also like to know why you think Lars can't do double bass that fast. Show me proof that he doesn't.

  • @Eatgrunts Pretty simple - Dave Lombardo is DRIVING the backbeat and rhythm, not holding back like Lars typically does (especially on the studio version of Battery). Lars is typically on off-beat drummer (and has never really progressed from that. Also on the double bass, remember that Metallica couldn't play "Trapped Under Ice" live for many years. Reason why? Lars couldn't consistently replicate the double-time blast beat part. There's no contest between these two. Dave is far superior.

  • Lars got me into drumming, and he is still one of my favorites. And then there's Dave, the greatest drummer and the only one that could play a Metallica song better than Lars!

  • I love both drummers (Dave is my favorite tho) but as soon as the double bass hit at 3:38 I couldn't help but say FUCK HE RAPED LARS!

  • @guitarcenter999

yeah lars cant even hold a simple 8th note doublebass, nevermind know what a blast beat is dave masters both, dave did a 350 bpm doublebass riff inbetween angel of death

  • wow on 3.38....lars you ve lost!

  • God knows I love Lars, but fucking hell.....Lombardo rules. End of story.

  • and the best drummer is... CHARLIE BENANTE!!! ANTHRAX RULES!!!

  • @wajslaw Lars plays this way faster then Dave duz. It sounded like he messd up some parts to

  • @MrCoww that's what happens when people play together for the first time... there will be alwaysa mess up

  • the ending got raped, too bad metallica suck live because of james.

  • Lars is a fantastic musician and one of the greatest songwriters of metal along with James Hetfield.

    It's as simple as that.

...and Dave Lombardo is fucking sick.

It is also as simple as that

    Thrash on!

  • Usually during concert Metallica play much faster, so Lars is very sweaty and tired. But this time James and Kirk could not keep up with Dave!!! :o Can you hear it? :)

  • Lars Nimes or mexico....watch either and shut the fuck up about lars "sucking"

  • @HarvesterOfDeath07 lars is for metallica and dave is made for slayer they are 2 different drummers

  • Finally! I found Battery with double bass live and its not in the 80's and early 90's

  • LARS SUCKS!!! DAVE RULES!!!

  • i like dave better but i will give lars credit for his work in and justice, he did some great drumming on that.

  • I love how when the mass double bass comes in at the end. It completely overpowers everything else. And James's probably thinking "Damn, that's what a good double bass drummer sounds like, FUCK YEAHH"

  • its because that dave lombardo is playing more HEAVI SHIT. so he is making the song really heavy, with his drums. but lars is good. HATERS!! and yes dave is maybe a little bit better at the to pedals. but you know why?? thats because that he was the first one too play with em.. he maked them populare...

  • @unimetz1

"thats because that he was the first one too play with em... he maked them populare"

Ehm... are you saying that Dave Lombardo was the first one to play with "the to pedals"? That shows how much you know...

Second of all, Lombardo kicks Ulrich's ass any fucking day. Don't get me wrong, I like Metallica more than Slayer, but seriously, Ulrich and Hammet must be the two musicians who are the worst at their instruments in a band of that size.

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh right man!!

  • @unimetz1 No, double bass goes all the way back to the 1950s and even before that with Jazz drummers. Some of the true drumming giants such as Louie Bellson used Double Bass. So no, Dave wasn't the first to use Double Bass. Also, Dave is a hell of a lot better than Lars, it's not marginal.

  • They're both really fucking good at drums. Relax people, stop with the dick measuring contest.

  • @samobetty they are not both fucking good at drums...lars doesnt know how to play drums... -.-

look at hit the lights from COpenhagen 2009. he MISSED THE RYTHM!!! how can a lets call it "proffesional" drummer (although lars isn't it) who plays drums for at least 30 years miss a rythm?! and then the whole band must catch up with him.

lars sucks, get over it...i'm huge metallica fan, but i'm objective...

  • you also have to think of the fact that dave had a limited amount of time to learn these songs. its not easy to learn songs perfectly when your time is limited and the pressure is on. so for dave jamming this song, he kicked this songs ass.

  • Dave > Lars...end of story. Suck my DICK

  • i will give it to dave, he is great, but you can not miss that many parts of this song and still think you are good. he has the speed because he has so many less yeares at it than lars does. speed does not mean you are good lars is a god at drums he just is not as fast as he use to be! get over it guys, lars is still kick ass and dave can kiss his ass!

  • @lambofgod122 ROTFLLLLLLLL

dude i've seen metallica 5 times, lars fucking sucks.

  • Although Dave's drumming was brutal and good overall, he did miss a few parts in the song. (the "are you alive thing"). He drumming in Slayer is great, but it isn't on this song.

This is why Ulrich belongs to Metallica and Lombardo to Slayer.

  • In thrash metal drumming, double bass is essential, and Dave owns Lars in speed and technique... get over it

  • @TailGunner01 whatever man, in Lars's prime he was as good as any of them, watch Seattle 89 live, the whole thing. It speaks for itself

  • you all cant be serious and think he is a good drummer?!?! he missed SO MANY cues and beats. just because he knows how to double bass doesnt make him good. and his endurance is still there because he doesn't play as often as Lars does. Lars has a lot of miles on him, thousands of shows, and fame/money to go with it. Joey Jordison held his own much better than Dave. its still impressive that they can play on the spot like they did though.

  • you can't be sirious. One slayer song live is three metallica songs played live. Dave would have managed playing a tour with metallica, but lars would never have managed a tour with slayer. lars is an awesome drummer though..

  • I love Metallica. I love James, Lars, Kirk... But I won't lie to myself telling me that Lars can perform like this. Sorry.

  • @spiderbonegy erm he probably mmissed a few cues because Lars had to go to hospital just hours before this gig, give him a break he only had a few hours to learn the song.

  • @tgrules565 I think he already knew that song xd he didnt even had time to practice

  • @spiderbonegy did we listen to the same song dude? Lombardo played circles around what Ulrich wrote. Also this is not a song that he wrote so.....honestly he took what another person wrote and made that person look silly. Ulrich is the single greatest fallacy of a musician I have ever seen. I can credit him with having a decent ear for arranging music however.

  • @kleiny89

Fight Fire With Fire Mexico DVD, tell me he's a fallacy then. and no it's not edited, only a fucking moron would say that because there's tons of fan shot footage that proves otherwise.

  • @thebogeymaniscoming

Hahahahaha...you are in denial! Do you know how many bands dub and edit their live recordings? I also just checked out some recent 'Tallica shows and you can't even hear Ulrich's double bass, and on the ones where you could, it was sloppy as fuck! The man can barely play the double bass on One for fuck's sake. I love Lars Urlich, but you have to realize that Lombardo is a much better drummer than he is right now.

  • @mOrtpengu1n

Nope, I'm not in denial at all, PM me if you want proof. That goes for all of you.

  • suena de que bieeen chippii!!! definitivamente Lars es el mejor

  • God, Dave can play the simplest shit and make is so fucking mean. He and Ray Herrera are my favorite drummers

  • a great band would be with dave lombardo on drums, dimebag darrell on lead guitar, cliff on bass, and max cavalera on vocals. What do you think????

  • yes! why did you get thumbs down for that!?

  • That would be a pretty br00tal lineup for a band. Max can even play rythm.

  • Have you ever seen dave playing for 2 hours straight? He looks like that from the start..

And truth being told.. lars was a good drummer indeed in '89, but dave just held on to his fast paced methods more because his bands required it..

Metallica mellowed down, so as a part of it, lars did as well, you can't just demand him going full on mode after 20 years? (oh and yes, I'm a slayer fan who's NOT bitchin on lars by the way..)

  • Dave can play any of Lars stuff easily today and anyday(except when he becomes 80 years old).

Why they didn't they play FFWF or Dyers Eve with him that night?

  • when i hear this and how jordison plays on lars kit, now i know that lars got specific hi hat only for him ;p

  • DAVE IS SOOOO GOOD!
