Been googlng all around tonight comparing versions of Estuans Interius. Despite the plethora of recent recordings, Sir Thomas Allen is still ahead by miles-- he is to this aria as Gobbi is to Scarpia. On the Previn/ English/Armstrong recording from years back, he gives the best version of this very difficult aria I've heard anywhere. This live version is the second best-- he slightly ducks the appallingly difficult high note at the end-- but it's great to SEE him sing it, so thanks for posting.

many years ago Tom Allen was singing Carmina Burana in the Proms in London and fainted - a member of the audience who was a singing student came backstage and sang the remainder of the concert - the whole thing was broadcast on TV!
