  • 0:53 - 1:42 george benson in da houwse!!!

  • bad ass. go eat PG's SHIT

  • My adoration for this man has increased tenfold after watching this; especially the first half. Richie is a veritable beast of a musician, as well as an asset to the human race. Cool bastard.

  • those arpeggios are not from serrana.. its go off

  • @Nibirucito pff si supieras... no hables por hablar ;)

  • gilbert is sick... He is still cool , you have to admit...

  • but its not gilbert is it

  • LOL and thats slow for richie

  • this guy became my hero after becker's serrana.

  • i don't care what anyone says, richie has one of the most killer left hands in the business, hands down.

  • he's good for technicality because of becker!

  • RHCP would be proud from the part that starts at 1:40 :D

  • Richie has time for playing guitar and working out

  • Strange, his last name means "to vomit" in German. FYI, Johnny Depp's last name is "dork" in German.

  • the funk lick he starts playing at 1:43 , is it a song or just a lick ??

  • Dude's got the blues

  • He plays no crap......very unpretentious blues and melodic as well.....and listen how that strat roar!!!!

  • he performs a lick then waits for audience response, problem is his licks are amateur

  • his licks arent hard to play, but he has a feeling and a tone which an amatuer would never have!

  • Richie Kotzen is the most underrated, under-appreciated , and under exposed musician there is. The man is a fucking genius. Absolutely one of the best guitarists in the world but what sets him apart is his singing and songwriting. He would be great even if he never picked a guitar up aagain.

  • Richie used a Sobbat Drivebreaker pedal dude. There is no Barber Direct Drive at his feet.

  • i love his name, kotzen is german for puke;-).

But his music is also very nice

  • @yutubenutzer ich weiß =D

  • 忍?

  • You guys can argue back and forth all nite long. ALL OF THESE guys you speak of are just friggin sick guitar players. All so damn talented some of us would give our left leg to be able to play like them. All have there own strengths, but one thing can not be denied, THEY CAN FLAT RIP THEIR SH*T UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+ + + bravo.

  • 00:00-2:50= music

2:50-5:07=LETS GIVE THOSE METAL HEADS SOME SUPERFAST CRAP...(easy money)

  • @tomaminadav but wouldn't you agree that even his shredding is quite musical?

  • @tomaminadav uneducated.

  • @tomaminadav ya thats what he was thinking ill just spend years of my life practicing guitar for hours on end for 'easy' money...

  • @tomaminadav I wish people like you could learn that playing fast, or shredding, can be used to express something just as much as playing solo and melodically can

  • @tomaminadav metal is music!

  • Best site for these guitar dvds is GoldmineGuitars

  • Underrated legend! He and Greg Howe&Macapline get no props.

His work with Stanley Clarke/Vertu group was pure class.

And Ritchie can sing well from the soul.

  • Richie has such a great style. A perfect mix of shredding ability and soulful blues. He has an amazing voice as well. One of my all time favorite guitarists. George Lynch is another favorite.

  • @lovehate820 Yeah but his phrasing is kinda boring. So standard :T

  • @vincentizghra

i never understand when people make this point, i mean if you look at the broader spectrum, guitarist in general are the worst improvisers, i really dig his lead playing, i think he sounds original, at least his licks dont sound like they came out of a mel bay book.

  • I love how a lot of these 80's shredder types have come to find TONE! I hated that sterile, plastic sound they all had in the 80's. Watch me do fast arpeggios with no sense of melody! Well now they sound so much better and play more interesting phrases. Paul Gilbert lately has really come into his own. He's always been a technical master, but now I actually want to listen to him. His latest album is so great.

  • quiete boring...

  • I remember when Richie used to come to my friend Mike's house and I would sit there and watch the 2 of the jam. Who woulda known back then he would have become the shredmaster he has become!!!!! And this isn't some bullsh!t story, its straight up the truth!

  • is that funky rhythm guitar part part of a real song? or is that just noodling? CUZ THATS FUCKIN FUNKY!

  • phenominal guitarist. still prefer PG, but this guy is awesome!

  • both are amazing a little diferent wonderful players same league

  • Richie has more soul than any shredder out there, and more chops than any blues player , I don't know if people do realize he is the best guitar player since SRV & Hendrix.

  • @lipeguitars Whoah, let's not get crazy!! I love the guy, he's an incredibly talented musician, but one dude off the top of my head that's right up there with him = Nuno Bettencourt

  • @owlsrfun47 I couldn't agree more, Nuno is one of the all time greats

  • Both Guitarists kick butt. One isn't better than the other.

  • Don't fight about who's the better guitar player! Do you really think that Richie Kotzen, Satriani, Petrucci, Gilbert,...... sit at home and think: "What can I do to become better than xxx?" They just love music/playing guitar and do what they do!!!!

  • Paul Gilbert anytime anyday just listen to Viking Kong and you'll know what I mean

  • @MRPric3LEss It's just a matter of taste, bro. I love listening to them both but when I need to be pumped up I listen to some PG and when I'm feeling a bit sad or kinda getting my mood I listen to some RK. So, yeah..

  • @toppoxpocky :) yeah I guess ur right man

  • @toppoxpocky Agreed. PG's Fuzz Universe album is my latest go to album for happy feelings.

  • @kingv911 Same here, man. Been listening to that album all day.

  • cito papi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WHAT SORT OF STRATOCASTER IS THAT???

  • i don't know why he is not famous like the pope, he's my religion ( incredible musician, producer, person, guitar player, song writer, performer, etc)

and )in my opinion he's not that famous because he hasn't sold his soul and music to comerciality :)

  • He´s good but not near Paul Gilberts mind blowing riffs :) My opinion thought...

  • wooow! he is a rockster and his scutting is very good! Natural flava and awesome performans!

  • cool! check out Live in Tokyo 2011^^

  • richie kotzen is a theory monster, his arrpeggios are loaded with color tones. i personally think kotzen is a much more well rounded guitar player. paul gilbert shreds but kotzen adds so many more techniques to his improvisation.

Also, whoever created this video doesnt know what they are talking about... there is NO excerpt from serrena in this video. those were a few 6 string major 7th arrpeggios with some posistion shifts.

  • @Guitarman08100 its not from serrana's but its sequence of arpeggios jason used to play often

  • richie kotzen is a theory monster, his arrpeggios are loaded with color tones. i personally think kotzen is a much more well rounded guitar player. paul gilbert shreds but kotzen adds so many more techniques to his improvisation.

  • Where is this Guitar Pro?

  • Ya know, he and Paul get to wake up every morning and go--Thank god I wasn't dreamin...

  • gilbert has the skills but this guy has the soul

  • Cornford screws Marshall right in it's corporate sell-out ass!!

  • What makes this guy better than carlos santana?

  • @underthea just about everything you can do with a guitar....if it's guitar youre talking about.

  • @underthea nothing if you like Santana more. that aside, he can play every thing Santana can play Santana could not hope to get near what kotzen can.but as i said if you like Santana more its irrelevant .

  • @underthea btw i think its important to note this is kotzen in hi sleep .hes not even trying.look at some other his other vids .when they guy wants to be hes as good a player as i have ever seen.possibly one of the most talented guys in music

  • holy shit!

  • haha, in germany "Kotzen" means to vomit xD

  • Oh and that cool excerpt is Go Off! by Cacophony not Serrana.

  • Ive always thought Richie sounds like a watered down version of Jason Becker.

  • 3:20 - 4:30 Eddie Van Halen "ish" Eruption inspired. Well done.

  • he should be the biggest Star on the Planet!! amazing musician and the coolest guy ever!!

  • @DegraDeadlock He played on Ibanez then and the tone is different ....a LOT. The fender tone is made in the classical bluesy jazzy old school rock and that makes it seem that the tone is a bit more sloppy when Ibanez (that paul gilbert plays) is clinical and tight. But i've never seen Richie play something Paul can't play and i've never seen Paul play something Richie can't play so until they do a guitar duel we all should shut up

  • RICHIE IS A MONSTER!!!

  • VAN HALEN RULES!!!!

  • Richie's good, but Paul is SO MUCH BETTER !!!

  • @DegraDeadlock just because his styles have been changed?

  • This nigger has chops.

  • @ComfortablyNumbed

    grow up FFS

  • This guy rocks, fuck all haters.

  • @DegraDeadlock the silliest thing I ever heard

    no he was not.

    he's thousand times better now

he can play, blues, jazz, rock, pop, metal!

then he was mostly only in metal and rock.

now he has thousand times better feeling and muuuch more interesting and beautiful solos.

  • @jstrok72 True!!!

  • @jstrok72 nop, he cant play jazz.

  • Comment removed

  • @gmfagundes He played in Vertu with Stanley Clark and Lenny white. They were jazz fusion and the album was incredible.

  • I love Richie Kotzen's voice

  • RK vz PG talk. WHY? Heck both of them, along with Howe and a hand full of others, can pretty much do anything possble on the guitar. What the heck do you do then? Then it's just a matter of personal taste. What a person "preferes".

  • you fuckin idiots comparing is just dumb...lol..its all about the music..personally i like Richie way more,he can play every instrument and sing! and he writes all his own material..so fuck off..lol..ohh i grew up when both were on shrapnel..i do know whats up..just listen and stop arguing man..

  • Looks like a kid playing licks after licks in his room thinking he's a rock star...but he is. He plays how I wanted to play when I was 15. Tastes change; I find it kinda sterile now.

  • I love em both but If Paul and Ritchie showed up at an audition for a band I had Ritchie would get the gig.

  • I was getting sleepy, but I woke up on 2:50..... that double barr sequences are insane, I'll take off my hat..

  • Ritchie is wicked!

  • You can hear every note, yet so fluid.

    Rock On RK .

  • So when does he actually start playing some riffs?

  • All these critics on YOUTUBE- This guy is getting PAYED to play while most YOUTUBERS are paying for internet to watch this guy play. Dummies. This guy rocks and I never hear of him before today..

  • @CPDCFD if you want a good song he played on look up a cover of Ozzy Osbourne Desire, basically its Richie soloing while Lemmy from Motorhead takes the lead vocals

  • @Neoclassicalman THANKS

  • 1:04 Go Off, Cacophony... everybody thinks of Serrana

  • flawless technique and love the george benson sing along scat.... and the crazy thing is he is even better now....like wine, better with age....let it breathe brother!

  • Dimebag is the king

  • There are 61 Jonas Brother's Fans in here.

  • He reminds me so much of Nuno Bettencourt!

  • Richie is the total package. Chops. Soul. Technique. Voice. Looks.

  • HF its amazing how he sings exactly what he plays, and his tone is wicked too!!!

    Thanks for this.

  • unique shredding style!

  • this is just an asshole... this guy does not understand what music is all about

  • @flhashmmer

why dont u call him and explane it to him

  • Richie's best

  • Stratocaster power!!!

  • Not Serrana by Jason Becker but Gof Off by Cacophony (Jason Becker and Marty Friedman)

  • hat seiner mama nach seiner geburt direkt auf die schuhe gekotzt...

  • Paul gilbert is my abosolute favorite guitarist but i agree kotzen is a bit more versitile than paul, But this versatility kinda lumps kotzen in with all the other guys who can sound like any body/thing, the front runners (not limited to)like gilbert, vai, satch, yngwie, timmons, always sound like them self, with there own coined style. i think gilberts alt picking and impecable timing is what sets him apart from most guys though.

  • ritchie bluesy taste is awesome.

  • Where did those crap comments come from? First of all paul gilbert is just better than Richie at metal stuffs. Other than that, Richie kicks his ass. And that stupidhead who thinks his friend is better than Richie is just seriously retarded.. fuck off and go suck ur friend's dick if u dont know anything about music.

  • Richie Kotzen is an asshole, anyone who's met him will attest to this. He's ok at the guitar. He will be forgotten in a few decades though.

  • @Schumannafterall YUP totally agree, he can play but he's a real prick... he thinks he's gods gift of something.

  • His legato is impressive. Wish my own legato was just as clean, something like this, or Satch's, or Greg Howe's...

  • anyone know what scale he is playing in?

  • sounds like van halen

  • The letter that was written in his arm,[忍], and his guitar playing is so cool!

No other fingers is more beautiful than his one.

  • Aren't this pickups.. Seymour Duncan hot rails?

  • couldn#t afford the vocoder then no?

  • 58 can suck my tick

  • @Rain593

    hey

in the music nobody is better than nobody ok?

music is not a competition ok? music is not about who's better

obviously you're not a music to know that

every player has a diferente style, that makes the music awezone

aver player is unique, and they dont think about be better

    learn something about music

  • @yopetrucci

    1. Every musician is different then every other. Some are superior than others. That's just how it works. Better technique, more soul, better writing, etc.

    2. I agree with that comment.

    3. I am a musician, have been my entire life.

    4. Yes every player approaches the instrument differently. Paul's approach speaks to me on a deeper level than Richie's.

    5. Every musician/player wants to find ways to improve themselves. Paul does, Steve Vai does, Satch does. They always are.

  • @Rain593 Paul is "better" for Mr. Big, but Kotzen is more tasteful, has a better tone, better phrasing, better groove, way better voice, way better compositions... So, Kotzen is way better, in my opinion.
