  • Is this aircraft still flying?

  • I used to watch these aircraft when i was a kid ,flying in formations. What a sight!! and the sound!! WOW! I was fortunate one day to see a practice scramble, when i was with my dad, in his lorry, passing by RAF Scampton. There were sign all along the road then, "NO STOPPING" so dad slowed down so we could watch. Their takeoff, was a staggered, 3 of abreast. As soon as the wheels of the VULCAN left the ground, they were almost vertical. The sound of those engines will stay with me for ever.

  • I live 1/2 a mile from the runway, when they were messing around with her in 2008 I thought my cottage would collapse lol

  • goin to riat 2011. this is why...

  • Saw this fly at Goodwood 2009. what an amazing machine. Amazing....

  • I see that takeoff and I am impressed, but then he rolls into at least 70 or 80 degrees of bank at low altitude and you can watch the airplane slip downwards and lose several hundred feet of altitude. I know the plane has some capabilities, but you sure don't execute them to their fullest on the first flight in "how many" years. Reckless.

  • Was the bloke in the cockpit a twerp or expert? Your call.

  • @hehavenoname I think he is reckless. You cant just toss big planes like that around. At 60 degrees of bank, you need 2 Gs to maintain level flight. At 75 degrees you need 5 Gs to maintain level flight. The plane was rated for 3 gs, so on the planes first turn, he pushes the plane to it's limit or beyond it. Proper test pilots take it easy, and don't show off

Search for the C-17 crash in Alaska and the B-52 crash

I have met Dave Thomas and seen this beautiful plane up close, even inside it

  • @dano670 this aircraft was perfectly capable of making that. He did not put it under any unneccesary stress or anything like that or take t to its limits! My dads mate is one of the main engineers.

  • @dano670 2 major differences between the Vulcan, and the C-17's and B-52's. the first is the wing design. secondly, THE VULCAN IS BRITISH. period!

  • @dano670 Were you flying? Do you know the aircraft limits? NO, you dont so shut your mouth

  • What a class act...you can't tell me that this plane doesn't look completely bad-ass! When she lifts up into the sky, and you see that silhouette from behind...

  • Love the absolute care that is taken during the display as well - letting the airspeed bleed off to reduce the nose gear loadings.

  • A true aerobatic bomber!

  • I never see before a Vulcan image with sound like this. Powerful sound in take off!

  • @loudness96 search " avro vulcan xh558 take off howl and display" its the best example of the biblical noise it produces on take off.

  • @bigchiefmingingbolok Ok ! thanks

  • The only bad thing about the Vulcan is it was only subsonic. It looks like it should be faster.

  • Great vid. Seen it fly & display many times but never seen it deploy a brake shute...

  • Big, loud, and beautiful. My favorite bomber, undoubtedly.

  • Surprisingly for a big delta winged aircraft, the angle of attack on approach is not all that steep compared to the Mirage III fighters we used to have here in Australia at about the same time the UK had the Vulcan in service.

  • Not sure which is the more impressive - the sight or the sound. I still remember these flying operationally, we'd always rush out into the garden when we heard one coming - and by God, you could here them coming!

  • Dear Santa.......

  • as a military junkie this plane is massive and jaw dropping ! WOW

  • can you Barrel Roll a B52? how about doing it just after take off

  • Beautiful!

  • Wow, great video, the part from 3:15 just gave me goosebumps.

  • One of the most beautiful aircraft ever made! Congratulations to the people of the UK!

  • The Plane is amazing!!!

  • TO LOUD TO SLOW

  • TO LOUD

  • Also recommend reading Vulcan 607 by Rowland White. Covers the Black Buck raids very well imo

  • Does it still hold the record for longest ever bombing raid ?(the falklands)

  • @2walsall According to wiki, it was surpassed in the Gulf War of 1991 by USAF B-52G Stratofortresses flying from the continental United States (32 hours) but using forward-positioned tankers. I think the USAF B2 Spirits beat that in 2003(ish) during Operation Iraqi Freedom - some 44 hours in the air I think, although I stand to be corrected!

  • @wickedy081 Hi mate

I fully appreciate your comment but I dont think a B52, or B2, could perform the same manouvers as the vulcan. She is a truly a great old lady. Not to undermine the rep of your bombers but I would like to see a B2 do an aggresive climb and barrell roll like the vulcan. Heres a thought, a afterburning version of the vulcan, hmmm?

  • Most exciting moment starts at 0:38

  • According to the VulcantotheSky website, it needs to raise 630,000 quid in the next 75 days to remain solvent. One wonders if Lottery would have given 6 mil to VTS if Lottery had known VTS couldn't pay for operating costs, or if Lottery had known VTS would need this huge amount of annual donations just for operations.

  • @tradbgon FUUUCK YOOU. SHOVE U IN A HANGER MORE LIKE!

  • @tradbgon shut it u this plane deserve to be air worth its a brish icon and if anything is in a hangar it should be u and never aloud out mate

  • @liamriise this things a piece of shit we have planes that hover... and they sure as hell dont need a parachute to land.....

  • @RcUniverseGuy I hear you also work with rudimentary tools

  • @RcUniverseGuy first of all, this surely isn't a piece of shit! imo its one of the most beautiful and spectacular aircraft ever built! btw: thx to the brits! "YOUR" planes that hover were invented in germany and in the uk! and since you dont know shit about REAL aviation, stick with your RC crap and get some history lessons first, before you open your stupid mouth!

  • @germansascha Kindly be a little more polite in future - your posts are most uneloquent.

  • @RcUniverseGuy The Vulcan was designed to deliver nuclear bombs during the cold war. Of course it doesn't fucking hover.

  • @RcUniverseGuy : it flies much better than your Pringles can though eh?

  • this plane... is not ugly

  • your not wrong there....she is beautiful!

  • @GenXCypher anyone who says it is is clearly blind

  • You have to have this video up loud to appreciate the full splendour of this magnificent aircraft

  • Why was this potentially the last flight ?

  • @mckerraljamie Because there was a lack of funds till April. Donate today plz at Vulcan To the sky. Even a pound will help!

  • I bought one. Easy to station. very maneuvarable. Clim an option works good.

  • It IS strategic bomber - that means it doesn't have to be very maneuvarable. Such high level horizontal bombers designed for FAST flight and payload deployment on straight run. Besides - what you have seen - was low speed maneuvers, so you can't really tell anything about it from this video...

  • She is actually highly manoeuvreable, especially for a plane of her size. The displays don't always reflect this...she is an old girl after all.

  • If you knew anything about it, you'd think VERY differently.

  • She has very high manouverability, some pilots who flew her often named her a fighter because of it - when she was actually a bomber.

She's also one of the loudest planes in the world, when I saw one taking off she made a earthquake.

  • strangely azizbek79 it was very very maneuverable.. i susgest you go back to school and put some time in learning about physics and aerodynamics!

  • In case people are wondering, Bruntingthorpe is a grave yard for all trucks and trailers waiting for export or re-sale.

  • i have watched so many videos of this bloody plane today - my other half thinks i'm weird & wants to know if i want to marry the thing!!

i dont care. she is magnificent & i love watching her fly. thank you to all involved in getting her back in the air.

my other half isnt bad either!!

  • myself personally sent donations on a regally

  • yanks should admire the craft skill and beauty of the thing!

  • Fantastic, i went on her when i was in the air cadets, they guys there were on about getting her flying, now about 12yrs on im watching it. well done all involved

  • she should be kept at bruntinthorpe FULL STOP...

  • I agree with duxberry1958

  • she belongs at waddington thats where they have been based for about 50 years!

  • Why? What did you do to restore her? I live a mile away from Bruntingthorpe... People here in Leicestershire have worked tirelessly to get her flying... She belongs right here.

  • Remember seeing the Vulcan flying over Toronto many times during the CNE airshows...the city would shake.

  • Absolutely beautiful, and ridiculously stunning. This aircraft is an important part of my life, and it's so important to see one still flying!

  • Wonderful. What an awe-inspiring aircraft. I have only ever been close to one that is a museum piece, but you still get some idea of its raw power. If you don't love the Avro Vulcan, then you ain't got no soul. :)

  • love her would leave the wife for only her

  • Absolutely awesome!! wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • i don't think theres any other similar aircraft in millitary use today that has anywhere near the agility of the vulcan....impressive when you think it's design started in the late 1940's

  • I remember these, many moons back in the 50's when they were based at Manston in Kent.

They could be heard taking off 5 miles away ;-)

    Steve

  • B-E-A.....UTIFUL

  • I love that the vulcan is so quiet on approach and ferociously loud after it has passed.

  • Concorde landing was very much like that also.

  • Much of the Concorde design was lessons learned from this a/c, it was the forerunner of supersonic passenger a/c.

A beautifully graceful a/c, I hope it lives forever.

  • used to see these and EE lightnings as a matter of course when i grew up near Biggin Hill in the 70s. Makes me feel old but brings it back. Beautiful machines.

  • beautiful isn't she...

  • Very nice to remember me when I was a little boy in 1972 and has the opportunity to saw one Avro Vulcan flying

  • nice!!!

  • my favorite plane i first saw at southend on sea air show in 80,s .

    terrifying

  • That plane was used in a James Bond movie. I forgot the name of the movie.

  • Tunderball was the movie's name. I saw one Avro Vulcan in Brazil's Air Show (Sáo José dos Campos - Sáo Paulo) on 1972. and it was amazing !!

  • i saw her flying with the lancaster at waddington. a sight i can never forget.

but i would love to see the vulcan share the skies with a victor again

  • the vulcan, lancaster and the canberra - the three of the most beautiful aircraft to fly, and all pure british beef! keep double 5-8 up where she belongs.

  • She needs every one to donate to keep her flying. Please help.

  • is it uk bomber?

  • It was during the cold war they where retired in 1991

  • the last one flew in 1992 though :D

  • No... they were retired from service in 1984. The last display aircraft XH558 was retired in 1992 and subsequently restored.

  • i remember seeing the last display show of the vulcan when i was a kid

  • What a BIRD, LONG MAY SHE FLY!!!!!!!

  • Amazing plane, watched one at a Duxford show mid-eighties, me and a speechless USAF Hercules crewman. We stood there whilst the Vulcan blasted upwards into the sky, it felt like my chest was going to vibrate to bits!

  • wow what a great aircraft !!! spent many hours stood under the nose of the things in my days in the RAF, will be sadly missed..

  • Would have been nice to know when it flew back times etc so i could have seen it. I feel cheeted that only the few people are allowed into the aerodrome to see it arrive, I cant see it flying in 2009 wheres all the money comming from the future looks bleek for the vulcan

  • my thoughts entirely, they beg for money at airshows & then refuse people access to photograph it, makes me wonder where all the money is going?

  • Refune access to what? The cockpit, Bruntingthorpe airfield? Or what?

  • The airfield, it is always special invite!

  • Will she be flying next year?

  • he dropped that parachute he'll get a £80 fine for that. what are they going to do with that 50 year old fire engine put out a fire one some ones feet?

    bring back the vulan.

  • Great thanks for vid

  • Beat that yanks!

  • Foooookin' ACE!!!

  • So why could this be her last flight? I didn't donate my money just for a handful of flights. I want her in the sky, not in a bloody museum, we have plenty of those already. IT BELONGS IN THE SKY, SO KEEP HERE THERE!!!!! Can you tell that I'm a bit miffed about this!

  • Nice Vid...Lets Hope That She's Not Mothballed.

  • A feature film to follow about the Black Buck mission?

  • great fotage.

  • Great vid i hope it wasn't her last flight hope to see her next year, and for many more years to come.

  • wow thats all i can say

  • Awesome Stuff!
