You know how they saved the 1 human that recovered? They realized that rabies doesn't damage the brain; rabies "tricks" the brain into turning on the body. Obviously, if you can not drink water you die; during active rabies, your brain eventually shuts your body down. the sad truth is that once the patient manifested 2 out of three signs and symptoms of rabies (such as hydrophobia, photophobia and aerophobia) the patient is considered as rabid and WILL DIE hours after manifestation because of laryngospasm causing airway obstruction..
rabies patients are hydrophobic because everytime they drink it constricts the air passages and induces spasms in the muscles of their esophagus. The sad part is, they get extremely thristy but the body is rejecting liquids.

It's pretty much not successful, but used as a last ditch effort. I read about the one girl who did survive using it, but nearly all others have died.
To be at risk and not get the post-exposure vaccines could be the most foolish and final decision one ever makes.

You know how they saved the 1 human that recovered? They realized that rabies doesn't damage the brain; rabies "tricks" the brain into turning on the body. Obviously, if you can not drink water you die; during active rabies, your brain eventually shuts your body down. To save the girl, (bitten by a bat), they put her in a drug induced coma, until her body could fight off the rabies virus.

A few days after those symptoms the infected will invariably die one of the most horrible death known to mankind.
Having lived in north africa and having seen rabies both in animals and ppl, there would have been only one humane thing to do for this girl: terminate her as quick as possible right there and then.

the sad truth is that once the patient manifested 2 out of three signs and symptoms of rabies (such as hydrophobia, photophobia and aerophobia) the patient is considered as rabid and WILL DIE hours after manifestation because of laryngospasm causing airway obstruction..

rabies patients are hydrophobic because everytime they drink it constricts the air passages and induces spasms in the muscles of their esophagus. The sad part is, they get extremely thristy but the body is rejecting liquids.

@keipii15 the linings that deal with water are extremely irritated, and since the virus attacks the brain I'd say the reflexes are diminished. So, I'd say if you ever choked on water you'd know how they probably feel? I'm just making an observation based on the fact that I've only started to read up on rabies for my Histology course and Pathology thesis paper. It's sad sitting through video after video JUST to get an idea of what really happens.

I'll take the innoculation/whatever the hell it is called first. But if I find out I got bit by something and not realized it and have rabies, yeah, I'll take the milwaukee protocol any day, I'll take my chances with that, as opposed to taking my chances without it. Besides, if you live, you get the glory of saying you are one BAMF that survived rabies, so kudos to you.

yea exactly as soon as theres symptoms characteristic of the virus its too late. if your in a high risk area get vaccinated if you can, or if you ever get bitten by an animal seek attention straight away. if its treated straight away it can be stopped, but a couple months later and its too late..... very sad stuff

there kinda is, but it's not successful always, and it will require a lot of work on the victims part to be "normal" again. It's called the milwaulkee protocol, and it involves giving someone a medically induced coma, and a cocktail of drugs, including an anti-viral until your immune system overcomes the rabies virus. Either way, get bitten by some animal, get a rabies shot, not worth taking the risk period.

It's pretty much not successful, but used as a last ditch effort. I read about the one girl who did survive using it, but nearly all others have died.
To be at risk and not get the post-exposure vaccines could be the most foolish and final decision one ever makes.
