whats about is that song? i can read hear that some1 wrote that they steal this lyrics but from who? im just starting to listen them and I dont know a lot about them.. If any1 can answer on my question i'll be very greatfull ;)) ps.sorry if there were any bad words in my english :)
in the most beautiful way, he looks like a tortured soul singing this. that's exactly how all the songs, with their sound and lyrics come across; and they all find a way to pull my heart strings. maaad love for these cool, eeeven cooler than miles davis, guys.
It's more than just a tribute, using a line from a song makes a reference to it. Every feeling that line has, that song has, that band has, every experience a person has had with that band and their music, when they hear that line, all comes back to them in the song that references them. This band references a lot of bands, songs, and movies, making a lot of experiences come back to mind for me whenever I listen to them.
i first thought this was a rip off of the counting crows song but he quotes the lines as a tribute and the message behind this song is that HE wants to be the guy that looks like elvis from the counting crows song,, amazing lyrics
The thing I love from seeing this band live - 4 times now - is that they seem genuinely grateful and excited you turned out to see them play. Having seen so many big bands rumble through a set like it was copied and pasted, I like that. They don't take you for granted - and you can tell they enjoy it. I like that.
@EdgarTFriendly i know it's awesome seeing them live! me and a couple friends got to a show like 3 hours early to be in front while gaslight was doing a soundcheck with the doors open. then Brian invited us in to watch and asked us if we had a request. there's very few bands who would ever do that!
yeah dude. i met Brian at HOB in SC and he was seriously the coolest musician i've ever met in my life. most, not all, but most thank you for coming and then go on like they're too busy, but he thanked me, asked me what i felt like he coulda done better and i sat there and talked to him for a good 5 minutes. really cool dude.
lol, im making myself sound weird, but the sound quality is TOO good, lol. its stiill amazin version, but i feel its lackin the rawness i was expecting. you know, acoustic guitar, your voice, outside, nothing to do. Its raw... this sound quality removes the raw feel and replaces it with a studio one.
i have no idea what you are saying. you can hear the wind and he misses a few chords and changes his voice like 4 times to find what works....far from studio. great song and version though
I wish TGA would make an acoustic record of these songs because they are as good if not better than some of the originals. Brian Fallon is a great lyricist and I can't wait for the new album!
Ive only gotten into TGA in the last couple of months but i agree that an acoustic album would be nice. A Brian Fellows Nebraska style album would be awesome! Dont think all his acoustic versions are better than the originals though, i love their heavier rock numbers, and i reckon the drummer Benny Horowitz is absolutely class.
Wow what a fucking idiot. "this guy is a theft?" This guy is an amazing lyricist. He pays tributes to the artists he enjoys by using lines from their songs.
The line "Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand" is straight out of a Counting Crows song, melody and all. The song is "Round Here," and it's a good one, so check it out. :)
The reference that stood out for me immediately was the 'at night i woke up with the sheets soaking wet' ... its a pretty good song baby you know the rest. Which as im sure you are all aware is a 'im on fire' by bruce springsteen line.
But then i guess thats because im a huge boss fan. Lots of artists adapt lyrics, i like the way Brian makes it more obvious, i dont think its to 'rip them off' but more a respectful 'hats off', which i love.
It's not stealing, you silly fucker. It's a tribute. You really think that he's going to put a line in a song, put that song on an album and release it to the world hoping that nobody remembers the Counting Crows? Or Springsteen, for that matter?
Don't be an idiot.
This isn't some kid at your high school trying to win 'battle of the bands,' passing pro lyrics off as his own. Get some perspective and go fuck your mother with it.
@kuntkunt88 lols, it's funny because your trying to sound like your some sort of professional music critic, but really you don't what the fuck your talking about. And by the way, you ruined the whole thing which your last immature comment.
@benbonigan If you could get your grammar right& actually make a point you wouldn't look like this big of a jack ass. But whats done is done, & here you are looking like one. I'm not going to call "kuntkunt88" some kind of music genius, but the comment they made makes a lot of sense. Line dropping in a song is a sign of respect& I sure as shit don't think that Fallon thinks he can use a Counting Crows lyric and pass it off as his own. So the immaturity you speak of is comming from you, not them.
they even added reverb to this. the production quality on the new album is absolutely horrendous. But it's still a good album, just not as good as the first. Weird how he steals lyrics from the Counting Crows as well.
What are you talking about? It's not stealing since he's not trying to pass it off as his own. The whole point is that you can recognize it from the CC tune, and make a reference between the two or whatever. It wouldn't be an effective line if he had just made it up, like. It wouldn't even make sense.
check out the liner notes. for Old White Lincoln, the line "I lit a cigarette on a parking meter," (which is from a Dylan song) is followed by Dylan lyrics that are scratched out, making reference to Dylan.
i don't see it as stealing, its alluding. people do it in music and books and films and such all the time. shit, springsteen has used multiple lines from books and films in his songs. is that stealing?
@ADubberly Erm, NO, it's not stealing at all- people sample lyrics all the time, it's tastefully done here. If you don't like him "stealing" the lyrics, don't comment about it and make yourself look stupid- just leave...
im going to try and tab this song out but i dont know chord names so it will probably take me awhile.. all i can tell you now is its tuned half a step down
someone did earlier down in the comments I think. Also, the chords are very easy to see in this video it might be easy to just watch and play along with what he is doing
he references Springsteen's "i'm on fire" even throwing in "it's a pretty good song, maybe you know the rest" afterwards. still all anyone talks about is the Crows reference. funny stuff.
There's a couple other chords in between these progressions. They are mostly F and C chords. It is a mixture of open and bar chords. Where he says, "Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand". It's from 'Round Here' by the counting crows off of the August and Everything After album.

Hey, ADubberly, did Blink 182 credit Nirvana on their album for the song, "Adam's Song"?
"I took my time, I hurried up, the choice was mine I didn't think enough" -- (Blink 182)
"Take your time, hurry up, the choice is yours don't be late." (Nirvana)
I think its awesome that they have a reference to The Counting Crows, it's like a tribute to that band.

Intro C, G, F, Am add G on high E, F
Verse A Dm G A C G
Chorus Am F C G
Post Chorus F C G
There's a couple other chords in between these progressions. They are mostly F and C chords. It is a mixture of open and bar chords. Look at where Brian's hands are to figure out which ones he's using. I think on the open G chord he is just playing the first couple strings, but you can also use the whole chord. Rock on.
