  • This song hits a sensitive chord for me. Especially "something you can't hide, says you're lonely". It's like John Lodge was looking at me while writing this song. That's the strength of their music: it hits home.

  • Thanks for uploading, this is my all time MBs number 1 song

their music is out of this world. they have no equal!

  • this is a old one

  • back in 1971 i was 17 and had my hair cut exactly like justin s! really cool.it was a success!:-))

BTW a fan of the band since 1967.

  • this is gorgeous, lush and full of memories.

  • I had my own Moodies albums, but I snuck in and played them on my older brother's excellent Pioneer stereo, and got in trouble for it every time. Didn't stop me. But to this day I expect to hear "Get out!" at the end of certain songs...

  • Studio over live or playback.

  • I agree justdeepblue! I have set thru science lectures with more enthusiams, but maybe because it was being recorded they were asked to refrain. Also if a band is still performing I do not think they can make into the hall of fame.

  • My God, that voice. It's so pure and rich sounding. And when he hits those lower notes..... That voice. The pastel colored "puffy" shirt. That face. Could he be any sexier? I'm thinking not.

  • @Msdistarr ....Cute as a pile of puppies !!

  • @justdeepblue If I had been sitting in that front row, I'm sure I would have had to be "politely" escorted out by security, and the band, just to be on the safe side, would have obtained a restraining order on me. Of course I'm kidding (just about the restraining order part), but jeez, look at the people sitting right there in front (actually all of the people). They might as well be listening to a science lecture with all the enthusiasm they have managed to muster.

  • when you look up the word incredible in the dictionary one of the meanings says "The Moody Blues"!!

  • My god, I haven't heard this song in decades. I was instantly taken back to the bedroom of that 10 year old girl who took this album from her older brother and listened to it over and over and remembering all the hopes and dreams of that little girl. The world was hers for the taking. And that nothing bad could ever happen to her or the people she loved. Then the song ended and I'm back to real life. The memories and emotion that music holds for us is so powerful. Unlike anything else I know.

  • @Msdistarr A beautiful song... I've always loved the words and the music. This song is particularly beautiful. The rhyme and reason are remarkable. Of course, a group like the MB's would never fly today. Too sensible, too reasonable in lyric and content. Not nasty or loud enough to catch the attention of today's youth. Too bad. We loved them then and we love them now. Thank you MB's for your great music and lyrics. Lamar

  • One of my favorite John Lodge songs!

  • A hauntingly beautiful voice.............I love all his music.

  • Justin is the most beautiful man on the planet.

  • They rule, nothing more to say.

  • can someone tell me how this group is not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? These guys are the classiest and best harmonized group ever. The lyrics are so relative to all generations....God Bless them all...

  • @Bigwallyman

I heard the other day that the Moody Blues were not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This is not right. Look at all the big hits and great theme albums they've put out. Look at all the people who comment on this youtube site. For God's sake, the Moody's belong in the RandR HOF! I've been to the one in Cleveland and there are lesser groups in there, by my estimation. How can they ignore this group? Their music is unique and very consequential. Lamar

  • @cloudjia Well, I'll leave it to the ladies to decide on their looks, but they've always been a group of classy blokes, for sure! BTW-amusingly, the only time I've ever gotten into a fight at a concert was when I saw them in LA in the early 70's. Can you imagine...fighting at a Moody concert? What a dork!

  • I remember listening to the inspirational works of the MBs back in high school and college. We had just landed on the moon, that asenine war was coming to an end, and the future looked unimaginably bright. Now look at us 40 years later. Same shit, only worse. Oh sorry, I forgot...we now have ipads and facebook. What a joke.

  • great song

  • I LOVE the Moody Blues...they came from my generation and I truly feel that we were blessed to have had their music...I still love their music today and listen to them all the time...their music is timeless and cosmic and universal and every song has a deeper meaning...they sing of oneness and love and friendship...I agree...they get my vote for the Universal Band of the Millennium...I hope the younger generation gets to know them as I have..

  • To reiterate on my previous post: no gimmicks, no glitz, just pure talent! long live mody blues!!

  • @field9 No one DUBBED tyhis..this is how the original DVD sound was released..they LOSt the original musical trackd for this concert...thank the French

  • Best band in the World. Their music was way ahead of anything before or since.

Best listened to loud headphones, dark room and stereo quad system.

They took you pleaces only your mind could draem of.

Still wish I could go back to 15-16 year old life. No worldly worries, youngs girls

at school, latest Wrangler jackets, then onto Suede Head, POW check, Crombie

coat, blazer and raised seams. loafers.

Down to the City centre for a punch-up.

    Oh, they were the days!

  • wow forgot about this gem

  • The Moodies are the BEST EVER!!!!

  • @lildudeperfecttwo you are absolutely right, god help todays kid for having to fork out money to listen to so many of todays talentless mimickers so lady gaga etc.

  • these guys know how to write and sing without question one of the best bands in my lifetime the music still sounds good even today!!!

  • I listened to this tune well at the time of the high school student.

It likes an album to the children's children's children best.

It thinks that it is the best masterpiece even of this.

  • Lip Synching. In this video you hear Mellotron, but Mike is "playing" a Hammond.

  • @Trondoc Would you rather see a slide show of sunsets and group photos?

  • @pauljeffreymiller Take the comment for what it was. If I wanted to see a slide show I would have watched a different video. I had this DVD for 1 hour before I threw it in the trash. It's lip synching and Pinder is not sitting at a Mellotron. He's sitting at a Hammond and faking it. They advertised this DVD as the Moodies Live. They lied. I wrote Pinder and told him I was disappointed. A Mellotron can sound like a Hammond. I defy you to show me a Hammond organ that can sound like a Mellotron.

  • @Trondoc You are correct. And also the rythm guitar is an acoustic and here Justin is playing a Gibson 335 electric. I do grant them that it's not easy to sound like that live, as intricate as there music was, especially with the technological limitations of 1970.

  • great song just wish the video cutting between this video and gypsy was more even part of this song is on the end of the 'gypsy' video.

  • @andjkh Just wish you blow me.

  • .... I have always wondered how the Moodies found each other.... any idea?

  • .... The Moody Blues had the pulse of humanity in their collective fingertips then and how delicate they were with that responsibility...

  • Forty one years later and their music is still relevant. God bless the Moody Blues!

  • Moneyusper, they won't mean anything to most 'young kids of today', except maybe to a very small minority. And on the whole, music no longer has the same significance it had to fans who grew up with this stuff. To most kids the Moody Blues come from a different era altogether. You just have to accept these things.

  • That must have been some awesome concert in Paris!!!

I was 15 in '70, always loved Justin, he was the eye candy of the group, always.

"Blue Jays" album was great too! I was lucky to find it on CD!

    (Hayward & Lodge)

  • THAT'S-REALLY-nice....

  • Their music has always been of perfect harmony and melody that it carries you off into another world. They have found the "lost chord" that has the power to touch the hearts of all who hear. Justin's voice was one never to be imitated. So pure and able to carry the emotion of the words he sang.

  • Brits are sooooo hot!!!

  • This was released without the band's knowledge or consent. The band didn't know it was out there; there was a recent interview where it was discussed. There are so many interviews out there I don't know which one, but the MB website has it.

  • more lip-sync why dont they say say so?

  • One of my all time favorites , Unfortunately this clip isn't performed live of course Pinder would have had to double on the piano and the Mellotron. He's "playing" a Hammond here. Still worth seeing them in their hayday.

  • JUSTIN....his voice and looks make me melt....

  • @neukertification

I'm with you! He sounds and looks like an angel!

  • Comment removed

  • @neukertification

I agree, he's sublime! British men are gorgeous! I want one!

  • I love this song! One of my all-time favorite songs by The Moodies!!! Moody Blues 4-Ever!

  • Yes... Im kind of putting these guys above the Beatles and the Stones for their spiritual songs...

    their concept type albums...

    they are a bit special

.... wonder just where this gig was ?

  • they all sing in harmony. It s so beautiful. Ive noticced tht in all their songs. Each is not looking to out due the other like in some bands...

  • Wonderful track!!

  • My friend thank you for posting this beautiful song! I love our Moodies and use your videos quite often on my fan page!!! Thank you!

Their music is to me timeless and I love the lyrics! They will forever be in my heart and soul! My life as a young girl was forever touched by the beauty they give to us in their music! I will forever love them always!!!!!

    Thank you again! T

  • great great but what else do you expect from justin and the gang melts your heart

  • It's no wonder they had to write "just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" after this (and many other) songs. They transcend spiritualism and their fans longed for their wisdon & knowledge. Me included. Nobody else has ever done it as well. Maybe they do know things we don't. Seekers, all of us. Love everybody, and make them your friend

  • My boyfriend took me to Wales to see the Moody Blues in concert two months ago because he knew that I adored them...what can I say to describe the magic we experienced? It was mutual love there between the band and fans! If you ever get a chance to see them in concert...DO IT! You will thank yourself the rest of your life...they are the spiritual bards of our time~~ Thank you for posting this timeless song!

  • Such a haunting song!! Love it love this DVD one of my favorites!

  • Is this synched to the album ver?

  • This is Epic in its historical importance!

  • So it's like 1977 or 78, i bought the album for one song and was BLOWN AWAY, by all of the songs, and so was the neighborhood, i had great speakers !

Truth is Timeless. Man those really were the days of Great Music. Sure their is some today, but so much trash also. We should lock gangsters up and brainwash them with this stuff. May take a couple other things also. They SO have it all wrong.

  • Oh yeah, those were the days. Their music is Godly as far as I am concerned.

  • You can say what you will about The Rolling Sones, The Beatles, The Who, but this group is the only one I would vote for, for Universal Band of the Millenium. Inspirational, and feeling. I hope the young kids of today, get to know them.

  • @moneyusper

I try my hardest to spread the word of the Moodies.

I started listening to them when I was in 10th grade, so all of my friends know about them now. I'm 17 and I still love them as much as I did a few years ago :]

One of my teachers upset me in class so he actually played a video of Nights in White Satin live for me infront of the whole class :P

  • @moodybluesbaby67 Empathy for you, sister; hope you are feeling good about what happened. We are all evangelists to some degree or another. So, there is no reason, only spiteful power, to keep persecuting & killing the most fervent fire-in-the belly evangelicals, such as you (&me). The Moodies and other artists are the real religion: the here & now religion; beware of the anti-religious who keep Jesus dead or keep killing Christs like you, time after time, as they appear like flowers in hell.

  • @moneyusper

    Yes my friend. YES!

  • @moneyusper Existentialism, Transcendental Meditationalism and Tibetan Buddhism. They just got way into this stuff, found The Answers, journalized their experiences, and set them to music. Alanis Morissette did fairly much the same thing from '94 to '08.

  • @moneyusper : I've always thought so, but still hold The Beatles to #1.

  • @moneyusper I have. Along with the 3 bands you listed. Moodies I can sit back and enjoy for hours. Their concept albums make me cry, think and see music floating around. Beautiful. 19 and will love this music for life.

  • @moneyusper i've loved them since my old man showed me what i was missing years and years ago.. real musicians and real music lovers appreciate good music no matter when or who created it. timeless.

  • @moneyusper im 14 and i love them!

  • @moneyusper

    absolutely.

I'm 62. Imagine 40 years not getting enough of them. Heartbrakers.

  • @moneyusper ... I couldn't agree more whole-heartedly.. I saw then in Boston at Boston Garden in 1970 and at the Greek Theatre in LA in the mid 80's ... the 70 concert was nothing short of spectacular... (I couldn't put it out of my mind for over 6 months) I was age 17 and the show at the Greek was terrific but their sound had changed as Mike Pinder hadn't been with them for quite a while but they held it together like the fabulous musicians they are... -:)

  • @moneyusper Im young and I get it. Truly.

  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sucks. The Moody's are one of the best groups there has ever been. Their music will live long beyond anything that is being created today. Just listen and then you too can be enlightened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unforgettable and beautiful!

  • they nailed it, they get us in touch with our mortality -- that is the first step into the light of loving beyond just our selves -- ah, to see these youngster rocking so softly in the light of their young heart -- brings tear of truth so gently falling

  • @davidfaubion well said david!

  • @davidfaubion well said david!

  • Unfortunately this was a completely lip synced show done as a promotional tool.

  • @beefoneeto Not lip synced, the film crew "lost" the audio.

  • I can not imagine they're 25 thumbs down! Crazy because the Moodies are the greatest in my book, and to heck with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for not having this group, they do not know good music like this I guess. Not my self!!

  • Who needs a symphony when you have a Mellotron :)

  • I wanna thank the guy who posted it 'cause I heard this music 40 years ago and then never more . I was lookin for it all this time . La voix, on dirait qu'elle sort des profondeurs pour transmettre un message éternel . Merveilleuse .

  • I love this song despite it's humanism.

  • I think I need to give it time to grow on me.

  • First time in my life I listen to this song, although I know quite a lot of MB's productions, and of course I like the piece of music.

  • Somebody, somewhere must have a true live performance of this song. As much as I enjoy this version, it ain't real, but a sing-along.

  • ...since our life in this world will come to an end ... for some of us it is obvious that a new one will begin ... and that love and search is the key to open it.

like in "in search of the lost chord"

  • @konstcenter yes this world as we know it will soon come to an end for some of us, but for others it will continue for only to get worse...

  • @missinglink66 ... get worse in relation to what it could have been if you/we took the chances and Gifts that are given ...

  • @donships. this world is just a mirrorimage of the real world ... you can see this world as a process of birth or a process of death.

  • @konstcenter I'm not sure what you are trying to say. I thought i was in the real world. I understood the post about it not getting better than this.

  • Great Moody Blues ... their music/lyrics guided me to find Reality.

  • The great thing about the Moodys, particularly before Mike Pinder left the group, each member of the group, even Graeme Edge wrote songs, but still produced music having the same rich sound.

  • Since when did a "mellotron" have organ stops?

They are performing (?) to a recorded track.

  • @TheKnowBuddies The mellotron was notoriously unreliable, so the often did not travel with it. It is, in fact, an organ. Sorry, but they are singing along with the original recording in this version. I like it anyways.

  • This song is just phenomenal and so full of mesmerizing beauty!! And Justin just takes my breath away!! Pure magic in every sense!! I love it all!! The Moodies forever in our lives!!!

  • thanks for sharing Gaz!!

  • This song has such deep beauty and truth to it. It's one of my all time favorite Moody songs. It never fails to move me....

Thank You so much for the share :)

    Annie

  • Ahhh Absolutely Beautiful Share & Post!!!!..5*s Thankyou Gaz...Anita..:)

  • timeless !!!! love them !! thanks for sending

    chris

  • best band of all time

  • I love how deep Justin's beautiful voice gets in this song :]

  • Probably John Lodge';s greatest composition

  • Regardless of age or gender, have you ever realised that in a crowded room it's never awkward to admit to being a 'Moody Blues' fan, moreover most people in the crowded room will have a favourite 'Moody' song, not many bands can boast that....timeless, brilliant, love to all.........

  • beautifull song and one of my favorits, Justin is so young there, 24 and at that time I was 21.

Great time without LSD you can also have a great time

  • the flute player is the worse in playing to the playback :) but the others are bad too...

  • Nothing has come close to the music of the late 60s and early 70s. What a great period in history to of lived through, and testing all the boundries possible.

  • I know what this was already discussed...

Where can I get this on DVD?

  • @grider67 EBAY..just type in Moody Blues live in paris 1970. But it is NOT live..it is a lipsynch.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic - Stupid question, but could you clarify that a bit more for me? :) So the whole show was a lipsynch to music they had already recorded, and then they just played their instruments at the show?

  • @NikolitaNiko Not a stupid question. No..The show was originally recorded LIVE both video and audio. nOT a lipsynch. They played the songs LIVE but The French somehow LOST the audio recording (done in the 60's separate from video, at least for this taping) and now only the video survives. The Lip synch was added so they could release this as a DVD.. No one knows what happened to the original LIVE audio recording of the show.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic - Thank you so much for explaining it for me. :) So when we're watching it on Youtube, the audio is from a recording done years later, and only the video is the original?

  • @NikolitaNiko Well, first , YES, ONLY the video is "Original". The music I believe was NOT a recording done 'later", I believe the original album version (not a live version of the song) is what is on the DVD. So what you hear are the tracks from the original album tracks done in the 60's. They did not go BACK into a studio and record NEW live vocals.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic - Ah ok, sorry I got mixed up. That makes sense. Thanks again for explaining it for me! :)

  • @DavelovesRealMusic Thanks for explaining this !

  • @justdeepblue No problem. This information is NOT written on the DVD box when you buy this. it is kind of a fraud when they write "Live" . They mean the VIDEO without sound is LIVE, buyt the music is right off the albums. It is unfortunate no one can locate the original live audio.

  • ....The Candle Of Life.... The Truth....From....The Heart

  • My dad handed off CDs of the Seven Supers to me, in chronological order, throughout my eighth grade year. Whenever I hear "Candle of Life" I'm back on the long bus ride home, spacing out to this song on my walkman, watching the ice-encased Pennsylvania woods flying past the window. It's still so beautiful.

  • What an absolutely, magnificent band. No one can even touch it.

  • i have been a fan there style classical rock at its best philip e.

  • I wish this wasn't cut off at the beginning...hope there is another out here in YouTube land somewhere...aahhhhhhhh...Moody Blues...Love them always!

  • I have this stuff on Cd but it's so much fuller with the video.

  • great song =)

  • That Life In The Back "" Heaven Life " Just Take Look To The Respectful Auriouns And The Band!!! Wish Life Ended By 2000

  • Truth

  • Another classic...cut off a bit at the beginning...but awesome still...can I be 14 again! lol I've had the greatest pleasure of seeing them live about 5 times...can't beat it w/ a stick or anything else ...

  • why can I not find another live version of this song?

  • Comment removed

  • This song is so introspective and beautiful. It just takes my breath away. I haven't seen this mentioned in the comments much, but this song was penned by JOHN LODGE but JUSTIN does it tremendous justice. Also, John and Justin are gorgeous men, yes? :-)

  • @apwerner

I agree, they're both extremely handsome! Justin is the most beautiful man on the planet, while John has a cute butt.

  • @pricla777 I have been looking at Ray's butt in these videos. LOL!

  • @afgreyparrot

They are all such hot babes!

  • @apwerner

    Yes, they are gorgeous!

  • @MoodyGirl67 I agree wholeheartedly that ABBA should not be in the RRHOF, but they were talented in their own niche. C'mon! And I'm not talking about that Dancing Queen crap either.

  • OK...Let's get the Moody Blues into the RRHOF! If we all comment at sites like 'rate it all' and 'future rock legends' they can't ignore us for long!

  • I would agree. but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't mean squat these days with trash like Bruce Springsteen inducted. The Moody Blues are far too superior for the RRHOF.

  • @uzi4u182

Thx for your reply, and ITA...they are superior. That said, it's overdue for the HOF to recognise THE BEST and honour superior talent, esp. from across the pond. All the more reason to induct The Moody Blues...even though they probably couldn't care less....!

  • @Poopaloo55 Very true..i know I can't wait to see them live this Saturday night!!!

  • @uzi4u182

Have a lovely time...I'm jealous! I saw them in Toronto last summer and it was incredible. They still have the magic!!

  • @Poopaloo55 haha thanks, yeah, they definitely do, i saw them two years back in Hershey PA. Now I'm only 21, but have been a Moodies fan for several years as my parents are huge fans. It amazes me how incredible they still sound, 40+ years later.

  • @uzi4u182 You are bitching they "let" Springsteen in? LOL..Springsteen is God compared to the ILK they have recently "inducted" --madonna, john mellonballs,

ABBA, grand Master Flash, Run DMC...etc.

  • Accoreding to reputable sources, when the HOF was started, pre construction fundraising betan, hitting up bands and music interests for dough. The moodies sent an official reply stating that they thought the idea of a Hall of Fame was inappropriate in holding one or more musicians above others, and did not help with the funding. If this is true, you will likely never see them there. I would like someone to confirm this and get a broader report

    Tom in Utica NY

  • @telsport I always thought the HoF was anti-prog rock. That's why there's no ELO, ELP, Moody Blues, Styx, Yes (I think), or Rush. And prior to last year, no Genesis either.

  • @GAThrawnIGF Jan Wenner and his buddy Peter Wolf are mainstream rock fans...They dont "get" or understand groups like The Moodys, Jethro Tull, Yes,

King Crimson (how do you NOT induct King Crimson?) etc. They prefer the likes of John mellencamp and ZZ top to any of the progressive or Art rock bands. STYX should be inducted SOON..Both Tommy Shaw and James Young have been going to the induction dinners for years.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic: Hi Jerome(Jerry) out here in Seattle, I e-mailed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they gave me some cock and bull story! We should mass e-mail the Hall, how does that sound!

  • @jeromejoh12 What was their Cock and Bull Story....you know this is all political as someone else posted The Moodys wouldnt pony up some cash in the beginning for whatever reasons and so they hold a grudge. So you think BOB DYLAN sent them a CHECK or CHUCK BERRY. Chuck Berry wouldnt send them a nickle. Believe me. nor would Little Richard. But they punish the Moodys?

  • When it came to pure raw talent, musicianship and the ability to take on a journey in your own mind, The Moody Blues were and are on the same par with Pink Floyd.

Brings me back to when I was 15 and stoned out of my mind too.

  • Many thanks to the camera operator for the lovely close-ups...esp. of John ;-))

  • Are the Moody Blues in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame..............no, why is that?

  • Musica pop...pero transformadora y atemporal.

  • Timelessly profound in lyrics and sound!!!! The Moody Blues are like the title of this song....They , like candles melt... the heart and soul...

  • @Raesun18 Beautifully said my friend...one of the greatest and melodic songs ever created...

  • Good old Moody Blues, I never forget them!

  • It doesn't get much better than this..

  • My favorite track on the "To Our Children's children" album- 1969-

finally saw The Moodies at the Hollywood Bowl back in about '95- back row center.

  • Brings me back to when I was 17 stoned out of my mind.

  • fuck great resesense in their voices

  • Beauty....takes me back.

  • I love Moodies since I first listened to Every Good Boy Deserves A Favour album back in university - and that was mid-90's! Now 39, unfortunately married, luckily no child, I still love them! :))

  • Ah, Lass you are a lovely one to make these points. God Bless youl

  • Wonderful song - thanks for the share Sunsets

  • Really Awesome Performance!!! 5*s Thankyou for sharing ....Anita..

  • Awesome Moody blues...the mellotron really stood out in their songs back then... 5 stars
