Easily the best pilot I have ever seen. But to be honest, compared with the high bar the pilot set, where so much happens in 40 minutes, the following episodes (and webisodes) paled in comparison. I don't know if it would have been the best show ever, but it would still be up there.

There are few Irish sections bordering on Italian neighborhoods but in the fifties and sixties, and maybe even the seventies, this could have happened between the Irish of Woodside/Sunnyside against the Italians of Corona. The bar scenes, the street scenes, all of it, been there seen it done it.

I loved this version so much more. Nothing against Snow Patrol. I actually like them better than Arcade Fire, but I thought this song fit so much better with the ending. They even timed the "every time you close your eyes" line at 3:38 so well. It's too bad they lost so much of the music between the pilot and the pickup. They lost the Nuttin' But Stringz song too, didn't they?

Great acting was really realistic felt like being in NYC in the 80s-90s shit was CRAZY and you weren't safe unless you were in your own neighborhood and no matter how big or small your good was everybody knew everybody and if you were a stranger you stood out , those were real close knit communities , shit now I don't even know who ny neighbors are and there's no sense of community , this show took me back to the good old days

When I saw this series in Sweden it was with this song with the arcade fire that I saw it, and I have loved it since then, it´s great, matches great. But the Snow patroll is also a great song.

Took me a long time to decide which version I liked more, but finally, I think I prefer the Snow Patrol one. Love "Rebellion" as I do, the song holds the same intensity throughout, so the scenes don't really differentiate from each other. But "Open Your Eyes" climaxes right when the scene hits the action, and then dies down just in time for the narration to fade out. Love.

I think Snow Patrol had more of a finality to it -- it would have worked very well for a finale, but as this is a pilot, you need something faster-paced to draw the audiene in, give a hint of what's to come.

This version is vastly superior, and I'm a Snow Patrol fan. Arcade Fire's song captures the revolutionary moment that this sequence represents much better than the emo-esque brooding of the Snow Patrol version. In short, it seems much less TV-ish and more professional.

Don't waste your time petitioning NBC. The fact they filled the MOn-10pm slot with a game show and a reality show tells me the Black Donnelly's is above the type of programming they want to do. Instead, maybe petition Showtime, FX, or a similar channel to pick it up. That has happened before, and it has a much higher success rate than trying to get NBC to renew a show they cancelled after several shows.

First, I LOVE this show and will be very disappointed if it is cancelled. Second, I think both of the songs used during this sequence work depending on your perspective. This scene was cut PERFECTLY to the Arcade Fire's "Rebellion (Lies)", and the driving beat and frenzied sound fits very well with the massacre at the end. However, Snow Patrol's "Open Your Eyes" makes Tommy's actions so much more shocking. Arcade Rire's song cues the audience to the violence. Just my two cents.

the Arcade Fire version couldnt be more perfect with the ending. everything goes right with the lyrics, like "everytime you close your eyes" and its Jenny crying and closing her eyes. and not to some cheesy extent of matching video with lyrics. it might just be opinion, but i thought the Snow Patrol song was completely wrong with the mood.

I think the reason for the change to snow patrol was the Irish factor. Snow patrol is Irish and the lyrics from the song "eyes open "seemed to fit better, so I read.
