  • Haha Rio just about won it, which considering its a 1.4 is rubbish. The 1SF-ZE 1.0 16v VVTi engine is a peach. Never feels underpowered at all, even on the motorway it has enough punch 90% of the time. The other 10% you need to change down or plan an overtake. Cus the mk1 Yaris is light as a feather. Love mine.

  • @polopowered agreed that the 1.0 vvti is brilliant for a 1 litre but to say it never feels underpowered is in my opinion incorrect. Day to day it's usually got enough power, but there are times when you're left sat behind a massive lorry on an A road because you know that you can't overtake it safely. Likewise pulling out onto fast roads with only small slipway, i have been left revving the nuts off it to stop that 18 wheeler which is getting ever closer in the rear view, from piling into me.

  • @rockshox101avidjuicy Maybe your Yaris needs servicing. Because mine has some poke, for A & B road overtaking, 3rd gear at 50mph has taken me safely past alot of cars and lorries. It just keeps pulling. I have never been in an unsafe situation due to lack of pace, it just takes some forward planning. And i am not lying just to make the Yaris sound quicker than it is. I had a 1ltr Polo, now THAT was a slow and unsafe car.

  • @rockshox101avidjuicy When I bought mine it was sluggish, didnt rev smoothly and felt slow. I could tell it had been driven carefully and not taken above 4000rpm. It was a low mileage car with same owner for 6yrs. After an 80 mile journey home from the dealer along dual carriageways i floored it and generally give it a hard time in every gear. It immediately felt perkier when onto town driving. Now its smooth as silk. Book time to 60 is around 14sec.

  • @polopowered Hmmm well yeah the 14secs to 60 is familiar (never have timed mine though), but i have had it floored and had it loaded up with bikes and people and that's when it becomes a much bigger problem, but it generally does need it driven like an italian to get it to perform, handling is good though :)

I think when i get back to the UK next year i'll give it a tune up because it could probably do with one. It's got over 100,000 miles on the clock now (Which is a alot but not for toyotas)
