@ChyronBad My husband says sometimes parakeets just get some of their feathers out of alignment and don't bother to put them back. Sometimes they may actually have a sore wing. Having a wing down doesn't necessarily mean the wing is seriously hurt, in other words. That said, use your judgment. My parakeet talks too. I raised him from birth, so he was hand fed baby bird food and then on to seeds. He looks as me as his mom and leader of the flock. His firsts word was Kiss. Love my Neo. He's on youtube "Parakeet Talking - Neo" His recent posted videos are when he's six months old. I expect he'll be saying lots more as he ages. He tries to immitate my voice. Its pretty cool.

Usually you get better birds from a breeder, for sure. You have to make them feel like you are their flock from the outset. If you've already had your parakeet for months and haven't tried to feed them from your hand, let them sit on your shoulder, or talk to them, it's probably too late to teach them to talk.
No one should buy a parakeet with the hoes of it talking one day, cause if it doesn't you'll most likley ignore it and i will feel .. you know alone so just a reminder :)
Well, David, Peeper has been dead for a year and a half, but this is an actual video of him really talking. Parakeets do mimic the voice they learn from, and my husband does have a deep bass voice, so I think that's why he sounds "fake" to some people. But it's actually him talking. I swear!

sloth0090, What you do to make Yours talk is: Put em' in a empty cage, then cover the cage and talk to him for ATLEAST 10 minutes, And this should be everyday...Also u should have your parakeet in a room that is social like where ppl are alot(where ur family is alot) maybe the living room?? Anyway just talk to him as much as you can

I can't take any credit for it, but basically you get the bird to of himself as part of your flock so that he depends on you, and then you repeat, repeat, repeat, while holding him up near your lips! Peeper was a pretty awesome talker.
hehe my keet used to whistle like that too! He did his name "Beemer","budgie budgie","Beemer's a pretty bird","whatcha doin", a laughing noise, and a few other things I couldn't make out. My favorite was he would wolf whistle alot. First time my mother met him, he wolf whistled at her, and the look on her face was hysterical! He knew exactly where all the mirrors where in my house, and if I moved it, he got so confused it was funny. Sadly, he died about a year ago, but he died with his family

Peeper was a parakeet. Often my husband likes to get English budgerigars, which are a bit larger than their American counterpart, but Peeper was just a normal parakeet. If you plan to get one, you should look up online some tips for picking out a healthy bird and for teaching them to talk so you'll know what you're getting into. Good luck.
Bad news: Peeper suddenly passed away tonight. No clue why, but we are pretty sad. He was definitely the smartest bird and best talker we've ever had!

I owned a parakeet from 1997 to 2004. He lived to be 7 years old. (in response to how long they live.) I found this to be unusual however, as the average lifespan seems to be around the 3-5 year range.
The average lifespan of parakeets is supposed to be 12-15 years from what I've heard. I have two males that are both 10 years old and quite healthy. They've been together their whole lives. Perhaps solitary budgies die young from loneliness?
I had a parakeet that almost learned how to talk before he died sometime in 2001. He coul imitate a lot of my whistles and sounds. He could even sound like a phone or a monkey! He was about five when he died and looked about the same as your parakeet but he was a normal blue and was black where yours was white.

lol. cute bird. my budgie calls himself peter budgini. or peter budginer. he realy doesnt know wat he is! he also reacons hes a "pretty pretty pretty pretty booooy" and he says my name (rachel) and he says his name (petie) lol. once he sed rachel peties boy (he just puts random words together) lol. i love budgies

He's so precious! I had one of my budgies for ten years and I was crushed when he died so I feel for you. On the positive side, you have a nice memory of him on video.

He was soo adorable! :D i know how it feels to lose a wonderful pet. i have two parakeets, and my other one died. he was a sweet bird even he couldnt talk.

Peeper was a parakeet. Often my husband likes to get English budgerigars, which are a bit larger than their American counterpart, but Peeper was just a normal parakeet. If you plan to get one, you should look up online some tips for picking out a healthy bird and for teaching them to talk so you'll know what you're getting into. Good luck.

aww... my condolences for your loss. I know that when I had my parakeets pass away that I was terribly upset. He was a beautiful bird.

Bad news: Peeper suddenly passed away tonight. No clue why, but we are pretty sad. He was definitely the smartest bird and best talker we've ever had!

My parakeet PETEY died in december. He was 14 years old and he was the love of our family.PEEPER could have been his twin brother.nice to see these vids it brings back such happy memories of a great pet. LOVE you and miss you LITTLE BUDDY.

my parakeet happened to fly out the window and flew towards the woods and could not find home again ..... I was on holiday then, and my big brother happened to have the open window in my room .....

yes .. it was very curious, so I imagine that it is trying to take off and fly away =(
but I think it flew away to look for me, but unfortunately I was on holiday in South America... (living in sweden BTW)

I owned a parakeet from 1997 to 2004. He lived to be 7 years old. (in response to how long they live.) I found this to be unusual however, as the average lifespan seems to be around the 3-5 year range.

The average lifespan of parakeets is supposed to be 12-15 years from what I've heard. I have two males that are both 10 years old and quite healthy. They've been together their whole lives. Perhaps solitary budgies die young from loneliness?

I used to think parakeets/budgies were really dull animals. I didn't even know they could imitate sounds. Now I think they're awesome! :D

I had a parakeet that almost learned how to talk before he died sometime in 2001. He coul imitate a lot of my whistles and sounds. He could even sound like a phone or a monkey! He was about five when he died and looked about the same as your parakeet but he was a normal blue and was black where yours was white.
