I'd agree with all of that. I think I meant Ian's voice matches Ian Curtis' emotively. But i can barely remember viewing this, let alone what I was thinking. I.C. was on my mind around then. And the bands are tied together for me.
The cameraman should be shot for filming the part time violinist for his 3 chords, when he should have been concentrating on the greatest drummer that ever lived doing his party piece. He must be related to him
I suppose if one wants to compare U2 to Echo and the Bunnymen, we may as well compare the Rolling Stones with the Grateful Dead. Speaking of which, this song certainly sounds like a progressive Doors/Dead type song vs. a redundant pos U2/Stones song.
@moimoiac that is without question correct. Echo & The Bunnymen are the band Bono really wanted to be in. However he had to settle with his motley crew of chancers who lucked out big time. "War" saw them rip off the Bunnymen sound and mood. Then Eno and Lanois came along and made them global. The majority (if not all) of Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree are Eno and Lanois crafting musical landscapes out of the simplest song ideas from the Edge. Overrated doesn't begin to describe it.
in 1981 this album was a bit earth shattering. this song altered my mind without the need for mind altering substances! makes me think of endless April sandy beaches, rocks, cliffs, blue blue skies and endless stretchy seas going somewhere in the far distance and coming back with a wave
The undisputed "Best Band In The World Ever". Anyone who was in King Tuts tent at T in the Park this year will testify tht the Bunnymen go from "Strength to Strength" and blow anyone else away live.
Shankar was his name....and wouldnt you feel terrified at the awesome power of the Bunnymen at their best??? I was at this gig, and it was astounding....ahh the memories....get in touch if ya wanna Free DVD of the Full BBC show ....ANYONE....
Shankar may have been (he certainly looks) terrified but he rose to the challenge. It's he who opens "The Cutter". He played and recorded extensively with people like Jan Garbarek, Zakir Hussain and Trilok Gurtu
The most emotional and powerful band of the 1980's the Bunnymen were dark, poppy, and tense unlike the Cure or the Smiths who made vapid music for teens. Buy Heaven Up Here that album includes Over the Wall.

@moimoiac In other news, the sea is wet. ;) I actually like U2, but they're not as good as the Bunnymen.
